Rex continued to listen to the lecture given by the researcher. In essence, even though these gates have appeared only decades before, being a recent phenonon, there were three theories that was widely accepted for their appearance. The first was
Spatial Rift Theory - The theory was that gates were the results of natural distortions which appeared in certain locations where spatial energy was thick due to the existence of Astralis Shards or also known as space stones which allows breaches between another location and the one where the gates were opened. These rifts stabilize itself into portals which were known as gates.
Where gates were ford there were indeed certain amount of Astralis Shards which were always present which were the source of the teleportation technology which was mainly used these days. They were rare to be found naturally but they were easily found with the ergence of gates which improved teleportation and increased the rate of technological advancents after the discovery of the use.
The second was Residual Magic theory - So believed that gates are ford from activation of technology left by ancient civilization. They believed that residual mana left by these civilizations condenses over ti and it causes the phenonon of gates.
So also believed that it was the lost souls of these civilization which fell after a cataclysm which still stuck on to find fellow humans and pass on their technologies. Why was these believed was because going through a gate posed challenges but also rewards. Challenges being traps, beasts, categorized as danger. Rewards being items, useful technologies from ancient civilizations which seed to be even more advanced than them. Of course it was advanced technologies, but now, not all items found in gates were not novel and new items anymore. They still fetched for a price if sold or those who find it, if they were leaders of a territory would research it themselves instead of selling it.
Of course so also believed that these were tests given by god to gain rewards but it was not as highly believed as the ancient civilization theory due to the history and lore given from research.
The third and final theory that was highly believed along with the other two was that these gates appeared near leylines. Leylines, natural pathways of magical energy-mana. These were the veins of nature which travel throughout the entire world. They are not constant and always changing but not as fast as lightning but rather slowly. But at tis, these were so phenona that occur around these leylines which causes these gates. So leylines intersected, so beca a bit near to the surface causing the mana in the environnt to outrage.
"These three theories are the most widely accepted, though no single one has been definitively proven," the researcher continued.
"So factions argue over which is the true cause, but most researchers accept all of them"
"What matters most is understanding how gates function and the potential they hold"
Gates had an inherent ability that determined what could pass through. When a gate first appeared, it was often weak and unstable, aning only smaller, less dangerous creatures could traverse it. Over ti, however, a gate could grow stronger, expanding its spatial capacity and allowing more powerful entities to cross over.
"Think of it like a river carving a deeper channel over ti," the researcher continued.
"Initially, only a small trickle flows through, but as the path expands, more water or in this case, stronger creatures can pass through.
"If left unchecked, a minor gate that once only let through Grade 2 beasts could evolve to accommodate Grade 3 beasts and beyond"
"One of the worst cataclysms in recent years was the fall of a small country of the west"
"It was the result of leaving a gate unchecked and greeding for more than what they could truly grasp"
This was one of the biggest threats gates posed to any territory. Unattended gates could spiral out of control, resulting in incursions from increasingly dangerous entities. So gates had even grown so strong that entire expeditions were lost within them, never to return. Greed was also one of the least things that a gate owner should have.
Because of this, most rulers and factions had strict protocols for dealing with gates. The best course of action was to destroy a gate as soon as possible. If a gate was destroyed, it would collapse, sealing the rift. However, if left alone for too long, it could expand unpredictably, posing a direct threat to the surrounding region.
"There was recently a rumour that ca out that there was a way to conquer the gate"
"But take it as a grain of salt"
Rex thought about if it was able to be conquered, if it could be stabilized into a controlled access point, it could be used for resource gathering, the profits were quite large.
"That should be all"
The lecture was finished and Rex finally understood more about gates but also felt like he had lost a lot of money before. The case would be that, he had went through a gate before during his army years, but despite being the first to discover it, he wasn’t able to profit from it because he didn’t understood about it.
But what mattered was what was on the other side of the gate. All the n that were going inside the gate were wearing combat suits which fitted tightly to their body. Rex was wearing a combat suit with the new spear he gained from the gacha. Speaking of which, he already had enough for 20 pulls.
[Points: 36138]
He gained around 35000 points after the night spent with Ayana. This ti it had decreased from the first ti he did it with her but despite that, it was quite profitable. One thing he had confird was that with ti, the amount of points he could gain from having sex with her would recharge. For example, at the first night, when he did it for the second ti, he only gained around 15000 despite it taking the sa amount of ti and contact but this night it had changed back to 20000 at the first ti and 15000 at the second ti. As for the points, he had not used it till now. Before going into the gate, he thought,
’Might as well’
The rolls stared with the first ten roll gaining him,
[Congratulations for the host for obtaining....]
[Talent: Sword]
[Grade: Cyan]
[Cultivation Talent: Grade E Low Talent]
[Skill: Skyward Tyrant]
[Type: Main Art]
[Grade: Mid Earth]
Out of the 30 pulls, these were the interesting things he had obtained. The sword talent was useless to him, a spear user. He wished that he could exchange this talent into a spear talent but things were indeed random. Even though he didn’t mainly trained the spear during his cultivator years where he used it as a sub-weapon, it didn’t change the fact that he had used it for a long ti. If he were to not gain anything in soti, he would seriously consider changing his weapon from the spear if not for obtaining the spear skill from the gacha.
This was a good thing. Martial arts depending on the weapon, whether it be a spear, a sword or even fists, they have main arts and enhancent arts. The lightning spear he had obtained before though was a yellow tier skill, it was a enhancent art. That is why it was a passive skill. This Skyward Tyrant was a mid earth tier skill but not only that it was a spear type main art which was perfect for him which made him both happy and itchy to beat soone at the sa ti. He was just thinking about changing his weapon due to the talent he had gained but this just caused him to stop his tracks.
"Brother Rex, brother Rex, are you there"
"Yes"
Rex answered Zoe who was also wearing a combat suit, the suit material looked comfortable but also fashionable as it closed on her skin and showed off her figure. She was not as tall as Rex but with her long legs and thin waist as well as her tied red hair made her look athletic. She was not voluptuous unlike the others Rex had seen before but her bust and long legs made her look enticing.
There was a short blade strapped to her waist.
"Everyone’s already waiting for you"
"Okay, let’s go"
"Are you okay brother Rex, you seem to be zoning out a lot"
"If you want to, we can stop the trip and just do it at a later date"
"It’s nothing serious"
"Let’s go in"
With that, they turned their attention toward the gate. Their personnel, all whom wore combat suits, were already stepping forward, their figures disappearing into the swirling, shimring void that marked the entrance. The air around the gate vibrated with an unnatural energy, and the colors within seed to shift between shades of blue and violet, as if the very fabric of reality was stretching itself open.
Rex adjusted his grip on his spear, his gaze eting Zoe’s one last ti before they stepped forward together. The mont their feet crossed the threshold, an abrupt, desperate shout rang out behind them.
"Stop! Don’t go in!"
