The two of them quickly switched seats, and by the ti the horoom teacher Old Wu found out, three periods had already passed. Old Wu felt that his authority as the head of the class was facing a new challenge.

Old Wu, whose real na was Wu Zhiguo, was not old at all—just forty-two, in the pri of middle age, with a heart full of passion.

During his years as a horoom teacher, there had been no shortage of arrogant students. So were so arrogant they thought they owned the heavens. Just last year, there was a certain leader's nephew, Yue Tianci, with diocre grades, who insisted on being in his elite class.

Pressured by the principal, he had no choice but to compromise. Yue Tianci was clueless about his limitations; bullying the weak, he turned the elite class into a chaotic ss. Old Wu couldn't stand it any longer.

He had planned to list all the instances of this disobedient student's misbehavior, prepared to risk his teaching career to force the principal to expel Yue Tianci. But what do you know, the class was full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers. Yue Tianci not only ssed with soone he shouldn't have, but he also angered them.

A certain leader was caught taking advantage of his position for personal gain, quickly leaving his post. Yue Tianci, unable to show his face here, really couldn't stay any longer and later transferred schools.

Of course, Yue Tianci was no match for Xie Ying'an. Not to ntion Xie Ying'an's record-breaking achievents each year that were the pride of him and all subject teachers, even his grandfather's position as a war martyr was so much more distinguished than Yue Tianci's uncle...

Xie Ying'an never left classes early or arrived late. It's just that, as a young man, he seed too indifferent, which as the horoom teacher, Old Wu, how could he watch his star student be so antisocial?

At first, Old Wu tried to arrange a desk mate for him. Xie Ying'an directly refused, saying he didn't like being too close to others. Later, he tried to force the issue without prior discussion and arranged a few desk mates for him, but none lasted until the next day.

Old Wu had earnestly tried to persuade Xie Ying'an that students should help each other. At that ti, Xie Ying'an frowned impatiently, his tone cold: "Is it a school rule that students with good grades should help those with poor ones?"

Old Wu was choked up, unable to respond. Last year he finally decided to give up on him. Seeing a transfer student this year, his heart, which had grown dead from last year's shock, couldn't help but stir again. Who knew that Xie Ying'an would pull this on him, luring Li Qingran to be his desk mate. What good could co out of Li Qingran sitting with him?

Li Qingran has always been self-disciplined, not needing any concern from the teachers regarding her studies. Besides, she was willing to teach other students who lacked self-discipline. Compared to Xie Ying'an, the two of them seed like they were from different worlds.

In the office—

Old Wu looked at Xie Ying'an and Li Qingran standing in front of him. He cleared his throat, assuming the role of horoom teacher: "Tell , why did you change seats without permission?"

Qingran glanced at Xie Ying'an beside her, who stood lazily with his eyelids drooping, his long and straight eyelashes hiding the emotions in his eyes, showing no intention to speak.

Qingran couldn't ignore Old Wu's question like he did. Steeling herself, she replied: "Teacher, it's because my math, physics, and chemistry grades are very poor. Xie Ying'an said he could tutor ."

Xie Ying'an looked at the top of her head, and his lips slightly curled up on hearing her words.

Old Wu's hand froze mid-air with the water cup. His expression matched that of many classmates in the class who had heard Xie Ying'an's phrase not long ago. What surprised him even more was that this phrase was actually said by Xie Ying'an, who had talked to him about school rules months earlier. His gaze toward the two carried an evaluative look.

He suspiciously asked: "Are you two in puppy love?"

The term "puppy love" had never crossed Qingran's mind, especially when the object of said love would be the male protagonist from the books, Xie Ying'an; it was even more impossible.

This ti, unusually, they answered Old Wu in unison: "No!"

Their responses were so in sync that Old Wu grew even more suspicious.

Xie Ying'an glanced at Qingran, whose face had turned a bit red out of embarrassnt. Finally, he straightened up, and looking into Old Wu's eyes, his tone was rarely serious: "Because I grew up with Li Qingran since childhood. In the class, she is the only one I don't find repulsive, so being her desk mate is also to prevent any other ssy desk mates in the future."

ssy desk mates!

Old Wu: "..."

After an awkwardly long silence, Old Wu cleared his throat and gestured for them to return.

Li Qingran and Xie Ying'an walked out side by side. At the corridor, they bumped into a male student face to face. Xie Ying'an and the student nodded at each other before walking past shoulder to shoulder.

After they passed, Qingran looked back at the lonely, tall, and slim figure of that student. She knew him. He was the sole major villain in the book, Ji Yanchen.

Ti had passed too long, and despite Qingran's good mory, she couldn't rember much about the book's content. Yet, strangely, her recollection of the depiction of Ji Yanchen in the book was incredibly vivid.

The author's feelings towards Ji Yanchen were probably a love-hate dilemma. Her portrayal of Ji Yanchen was that of a youth with a vibrant spirit, a brilliant mind, and an illustrious family background; and also as a youth with a slight loner syndro, inwardly isolated and at odds with the world.

In the early parts of the book, there wasn't much description of him, ntioning only that he was a high school senior with handso features, a gentle manner, outstanding academic performance, and a family of such influence that it could unseat leaders in the Education Bureau.

More was written about him in the middle and latter parts of the book. Ji Yanchen started his own company and was a virtual genius in business. The software developed by his company, by fair ans or foul, sparked trendous upheavals in society.

Ji Yanchen didn't like the heroine of the book. No, he didn't understand what it ant to like soone. He never liked anyone until he committed suicide at the age of twenty-nine.

Yet, this reclusive person, for so reason unknown, had picked a fight with Xie Ying'an. He created obstacles for the male and female protagonists at every turn. Though his attacks weren't very hurtful, they were tricky enough to give them a significant headache for a while.

After returning to her seat, Qingran patted Xie Ying'an's arm as she would at ho and asked, "How do you know Senior Brother Ji?"

"Senior Brother Ji?" The words rolled off Xie Ying'an's tongue, and he looked at an inquisitive Qingran with a cool gaze, "Ji Yanchen's grandfather and my maternal grandfather were comrades in arms."

"I see." Qingran nodded on her own accord, her curiosity satiated. She reached out to pick up a physics book from the tall stack on the desk, ready to prepare for the next lesson.

The physics book she had just opened was pressed down firmly by several slender fingers. Qingran looked up at Xie Ying'an with confusion.

"How do you know Ji Yanchen?"

Xie Ying'an knew that Qingran kept a low profile at school. Aside from her studies, she paid no attention to any gossip. She could not even recognize all her classmates after half a sester, so how did she co to know Ji Yanchen, a senior?

"I heard about God Ji from Ruan Ruan, and then I rembered," she replied.

Having a gossip expert as a desk mate ant that one didn't need to step out of the house to be well-inford about everything happening at school. Initially, Qingran didn't know Ji Yanchen either.

In the first half of his senior year, Ji Yanchen participated in several math competitions. During the contests, he always advanced in the shortest ti, ranking first until he claid the championship in the finals. He was a dark horse, and later, he seed to have been recomnded for admission to B University.

Soone had secretly recorded a video at the event. Despite the poor quality, one could still discern that the youth in the video solved problems quickly, with clear reasoning and unconventional thods, achieving an accuracy rate of 100%. This was beyond human capabilities; he might well be deified.

It was at that ti that Ji Yanchen beca God Ji for Ruan Ruan and many other schoolgirls.

Ruan Ruan was a fan of good looks. Ji Yanchen was fairly attractive, but the large black-frad glasses on his face and his overly long bangs reduced his looks by half. Nevertheless, genuine talent didn't require high attractiveness. A good brain was enough; good looks were just the icing on the cake.

"God Ji?" Xie Ying'an sneered, then released Qingran's book and sat back in his seat without saying more.

Qingran glanced at Xie Ying'an, who was tensely watching Ruan Ruan's back and growing increasingly dark in the face, wondering what he was thinking about.

What Xie Ying'an was thinking about was the school forum that Ruan Ruan and Li Qingran were viewing. That forum was filled with fabricated love stories about him and Li Qing Mo. Even though he had taken down the forum, the content he had seen still lingered in his mind, making him sick. That day after returning ho, he had a nightmare all night.

Looking back, he realized he had deleted it too soon. He should have let Li Qing Mo see it too. After all, the disgust shouldn't be his alone to bear.
