After a couple of days of recuperating, Lyse at last returned to her fashion studio. The hum of sewing machines and the soft chatter of her employees filled the air, the familiar scent of fabrics and leather soothed her nerves, offering a temporary respite from the chaos of her recent hospitalization and all the drama that ca along with being married to Levi.

When she was deep in her work, her phone rang, interrupting her reverie. It was her father, his voice laced with desperation. "Lyse, you have to do sothing. Levi is punishing us. He is cutting off our supplies, I don’t know what to do."

Her heart sank. She knew Levi could be ruthless, but this was a new low, what reason would he have to go after her father. "Why is he doing this, Dad?" she asked, her voice steady.

"We think that it is because of the incident at the dinner," her mother suddenly shouted over him, his voice filled with irritation. "He thinks we poisoned you, all of this is your fault."

Lyse listened as her father seed to be asking Lottie to calm down and she shook her head. After a while he ca back.

"Your husband thinks that we poisoned you." He said softly.

Lyse was stunned. "Poisoned ? That is just ridiculous!"

"I know, I know," her father said, his voice trembling. "But he is convinced. We need you to talk to him, to explain what really happened."

"But, why would Levi think I was poisoned, did soone poison Dad?" Lyse asked, her voice sharp. "Tell the truth."

Her father hesitated, his voice growing softer. "I can’t say, Lyse. It is complicated but the truth is no one ant to hurt you."

Realization dawned on Lyse. It was as usual, her mother or Brooke or even the both of them had done sothing to hurt her and her father was protecting them.

Her patience snapped. "Fine," she said, her voice icy. "If you won’t tell , then I guess my husband has to continue doing what he needs to do for my safety." With that, she hung up the phone.

Jeff stared in disbelief at the phone, realizing that Lyse had ended the call on him.

Lottie who had been hovering around him looked at him impatiently. "What did she say, will she speak to that lunatic and get him to stop?" She demanded.

"Lyse is upset that I have refused to tell her who poisoned her." He said numbly.

At that, Lottie beca furious. "That ungrateful girl!" she exclaid. "She dares to question us? She is going to pay for this."

"Enough!" Jeff snapped angrily and Lottie was so shocked she flinched and stared at him in surprise. He was not one to yell at her.

"If you had not done sothing sneaky, that night would have been a success." He ranted, "But nooo, your envy will never let breathe. Now see how much trouble we are in, you better fix it!"

After saying that, he got off the chair and angrily stalked off to his room while Lottie stared at him, aghast.

When he was gone, she frowned.

’It seems that I have been too soft on Lyse, she thinks that because she is married to a wealthy man, she can treat her family however she likes. Well, I am going to teach her and that husband of hers a good lesson.’

Later that evening, Lottie called Lyse and imdiately she answered, Lottie started to scream at her. "What have you done, Lyse?" she demanded. "You have angered Levi, and now he is punishing us all."

Lyse was taken aback by her mother’s tone. "I don’t know what you are talking about, Mother," she said, her voice trembling. "I did not do anything."

"Don’t you play innocent with like i don’t know you, Lyse," Lottie retorted. "You know exactly what you did. You poisoned yourself, and now we are all paying the price."

Lyse was shocked and horrified by her mother’s absurd accusations.

"Mother, I did not poison myself, that is ridiculous." she protested. "I was feeling perfectly fine before I ate."

"So are you saying that it is my fault? You ungrateful child." Lottie scread into the phone.

Lyse sighed, exhausted from the conversation and just wishing for it to end. "Fine, maybe it was an accident. Since you say you did not mix sothing in my food."

Lottie scoffed. "Accidents don’t just happen, Lyse. Soone must have ant to hurt you. And now you have dragged us innocent people all into this ss."

Lyse was speechless. She had tried to give her mother an out so that they would not have this squabble but she insisted on fingering her as being responsible.

"Alright then, how about you call Levi yourself and ask him to stop picking on dad." Lyse yelled into the phone before ending the call.

She noticed how the staff were trying their best not to look into her glass partitioned office where she was yelling. Fortunately they could not hear anything since it was sound proof.

She stared at the phone resentfully, like it was her mother. Listening to Lottie try to heap the bla on Lyse, feel her feel like Brooke was probably the one responsible for the allergic reaction.

And as usual, mother dearest could not let poor Brooke deal with the repercussions of her actions. Tis like that made Lyse wonder if she had been adopted or sothing l, because her mother’s dislike felt unnatural.

As for the poisoning incident knew that she had to get to the bottom of this, but she also knew that she had to be careful. Soone was out to hurt her, and she did not know who to trust.

She refused to examine the feelings that ca, knowing that Levi was so upset that he was punishing her family. She chased away the warmth that try to settle in her chest by telling herself that he was only doing all that because he felt guilty, not because he really liked her.

Whatever the reason was, it felt good to have an avenging husband, it made her feel... safe.
