Chapter 63: They are here
Silence descended upon the room when Edward was left alone.
Toc. Knock. Toc.
The sound of a pair of footsteps echoing in the hallway was slightly unnerving. The hallway wasn’t so big that it should take them so long, but they were simply moving slowly, and it wasn’t one person, it was two.
Suddenly, it was his door that rang.
He glanced briefly toward the inn’s courtyard and his gaze traveled all the way back to turn around. He walked to the door and opened it.
"Mr. Caterpillar, it’s a pleasure to see you again. I’m sorry to visit you so late." Miss ry smiled.
"Co in, Miss ry," he said, stepping aside. "I’ve been waiting for you."
Before entering, Miss ry apologized. "I couldn’t co alone. The magnitude of this mission made
hire a bodyguard. I hope that doesn’t bother you."
"Not at all, Miss ry. Co in and sit down." Edward was polite and allowed them to sit on the few wooden chairs in the room. Before closing the door, his eyes briefly scanned the hallway and sparkled with a peculiar light.
There was no one in the hallway.
He turned around and smiled at them. "Do you like tea?" he asked, thinking of serving them so of what he had been drinking earlier.
"No, Mr. Caterpillar. I don’t have that much ti today. I’m here to give you my answer," ry replied.
Edward then proceeded to sit down in front of her. "Very well, then. Can I trust you to carry out my mission?"
Miss ry smiled. "We have decided to take the mission," she replied.
Edward revealed a strange gleam in his eyes...
"But." She took a scroll out of her clothes. "As long as you are willing to give us this."
Edward grabbed the parchnt, curious about what they wanted to ask for. It was sealed with a red seal, which broke easily when he grabbed it.
The parchnt was new, but it felt slightly damp...
He opened it and looked closely at the words inside.
-Your life.
Blood was still dripping onto the parchnt, dampening it...
His eyes widened and he moved his head to one side. A needle broke through the air right where he had been a mont ago and struck the wall behind him.
At the sa ti, the parchnt burned instantly.
Edward jumped back, breaking the wooden chair, and looked at Miss ry... no, he was looking at the woman behind her.
"Can I take that as a rejection, Miss Clara rchant?" he asked curiously.
The woman behind her was, of course, Clara rchant, the daughter of his target.
ry was surprised that he knew so easily.
Clara snorted and removed the black hood covering her head to reveal a pretty face, but with scars that added to the brutality of her gaze. Her hair was dark black, as were her eyes.
"Don’t resist, Mr. Caterpillar. Do you want to kill my father and ? I hope you’re prepared to die." Along with her words, several people jumped through the windows and out the door to surround Edward.
There were about seven of them, but they were strong. Their auras stung the skin of anyone who was their target, for they were real killers.
Edward looked at them and sighed, but revealed a smile.
"So I decided to hire the company run by Silas rchant’s own daughter to kill the daughter and father," he said.
"I guess it’s a hard slap in the face to know that now, isn’t it?" Her mocking tone did not faze Edward.
"No, actually, I already knew." Edward was the one who mocked her this ti.
Clara raised her eyebrows and couldn’t help but burst out laughing. "You already knew, you say? If you knew, then why did you go and do sothing so stupid? Are you an idiot? Or maybe your pride is so wounded that you can’t admit you screwed up?"
Edward sighed at her outburst. "You’re exactly the kind of person I hate the most... You remind
of those clichéd little fantasies on Earth... So stressful," he muttered.
"Huh? What the hell are you muttering about? Has the fear of death driven you crazy?"
"Will you shut up?" Edward frowned, slightly annoyed. That tone was stressful.
"Since you co here and think you have the upper hand, I’ll give you a chance to make your move. Go ahead, little one, send your assassins to kill . I’ll pay with my life, if mine costs the sa as Silas rchant’s." Edward growled.
Clara clenched her fists and her gaze turned dangerous. Her teeth clenched in anger when she heard his words... "Kill him." She roared.
The assassins, trained as rcenaries, did not hesitate to jump forward...
But Edward sneered. This was his territory, and they were invaders. The fun had only just begun.
His sword glowed in the darkness, thanks to his spiritual energy, and his powerful body unleashed a wave of powerful attacks...
It didn’t take long before all the assassins were lying on the floor. The bed in the room was torn to shreds, the chairs destroyed, and... three caterpillars glowed in the darkness, surrounding two won who were lying on the floor, staring at everything in shock.
A butterfly gently fluttered its wings above, emitting intense heat that made the room slightly unbearable.
Edward stood in the middle of all that chaos, his aura pressing down on the assassins.
anwhile, a much more powerful aura emanated from the depths of the darkness. The small flashlight that illuminated the room had been destroyed, so everything was left in darkness.
Only Edward’s spiritual energy and the moonlight filtering through the window could reveal the situation.
Edward walked over to Clara and ry, who were trembling, and laughed.
"Apparently Silas rchant’s life isn’t worth as much as mine, a sha."
"You..." Clara’s teeth chattered, making her stutter. "W-who are you?" She wanted to move a little further away, but there was only the wall behind her...
"You see, I’ve been given a mission, Clara rchant. To kill Silas, but as you can see, entering the rchant mansion head-on isn’t very easy. While snooping around, I learned a little about your story, so I thought, why not look for her? She seems like an interesting person, maybe we can get along." Edward revealed white teeth that seed to glow on their own in the darkness.
"G-get along?" She doubted her ears. "You... want to kill my father and ... H-how do you expect to get along with ?" Edward’s sword touching her neck conveyed the coldness of the night that chilled her to the bone.
"No, I don’t want to kill you," Edward revealed. "I just want to kill your father, or so it seems."
Edward dropped his sword and approached her.
"Sotis you act like you just want to waste money on gambling, other tis you want to lose yourself in alcohol, there are tis when you even want to fight enthusiastically, while other tis you just want to kill... But strangely, you can smile genuinely."
"They say you don’t get along with your father and that’s why you don’t co ho often, but here you are, trying to kill
because I want to kill your father."
"I’ve always been good at sensing when sothing strange is going on, and I can see that there’s sothing interesting behind this. So I want to know what it is, and since you’re the only one who can tell , don’t you think it’s best if I co and find you, and that we might get along?"
His ironic words struck Clara’s rationality, leaving her confused. She didn’t understand why he was describing so much or what this man was getting at... ’Does he want
to reveal family secrets?’
