Chapter 56: Fight with Magic

Two weeks later.

Edward stood face-to-face with several tal puppets in the room he had used for training these past two weeks.

His breathing beca passive... It converged with the wind in perfect synchronization.

On his shoulder, the Fire Butterfly rested patiently, waiting for its mont.

On the fifth continuous, synchronized breath, Edward moved.

He stepped forward and swung his hand in an arc, aiming at the puppets.

Terminal Spark.

The magic he had been learning ford in his hand and shot out at a steady speed. It was much faster than the one he had cast that first ti... but even better: it was bigger.

It wasn’t centered on a single point, but had three different targets in the sa movent.

This magic quickly approached the puppets and struck hard, doing low residual damage but sticking firmly to its target.

Imdiately afterwards, Edward jumped to one side and raised his right arm above his head.

Embedded Ember.

A darkened, burning ember was created. The fire glowed, illuminating every corner of the room. It appeared to be made of wood; it seed harmless. But when it was fired at one of the puppets, its speed was alarming.

It was more than three tis faster than the Terminal Spark. It quickly reached the tal puppet and pierced its defense with terrifying ease, sticking into its chest, right next to where the Terminal Spark was doing damage.

The puppet’s chest began to inflate, but this was only the beginning.

Edward quickly ordered his Butterfly to return inside him, and seconds later he summoned his Wind Caterpillar.

The Caterpillar circled around him a couple of tis while he synchronized with it... He frowned slightly due to the intense headache, but he endured it.

Connection Established.

As soon as he felt the connection, Edward’s feet beca intangible and his movent forward was ethereal.

Flow Step.

A short-range instantaneous displacent spell that does not pass through barriers, but serves to shorten distances, dodge, or surprise the opponent.

When his body rematerialized, he was in front of the puppet that had been hit by his two previous fire spells. His left hand glowed and his sword appeared in it.

"Fragile Air Cut," he whispered softly.

His sword was surrounded by a cutting wind, and with one swing, he struck firmly where the two previous spells had hit.

The puppet couldn’t hold out any longer. The impact of the wind caused its "Embedded Ember" magic to completely reverse direction, and the puppet exploded into burning pieces, as the Terminal Spark had managed to heat up a large part of its body.

But there were still two more puppets, and he had entered their attack range.

Edward imdiately put away his Wind Caterpillar and summoned his Earth Caterpillar... This one was slower to appear, as always.

Edward moved his arms forward to withstand the blow from one of the puppets, while trying to quickly synchronize with his Earth Caterpillar... The process was slow, and the blow landed squarely.

He was pushed back, but at the sa ti he saw that his Earth Caterpillar was able to move nimbly under the feet of the two puppets. It stumbled, but it was strategic.

Edward laughed. ’This kid is a pure strategist.’ He imdiately activated one of his earth spells.

Minor Anchor.

The puppets suddenly slowed down as chunks of earth began to grow from their shoes and legs.

Then the Earth Caterpillar disappeared... and the Fire Butterfly appeared, flying behind the slowed-down puppets.

It flapped its wings and a slight but powerful fire erged from them, hitting the puppets.

Shared Fire Spark.

Perhaps Edward’s most powerful magic at present, which had taken him several days to master. It was still Rank E, but it did much more damage than the others because it was shared with him and his beast.

He also had that fire in his hand, and the attack ca from both sides. From behind, the puppets were burned and pushed forward... From the front, the puppets were burned and pushed backward...

.

The battle ca to an end.

Edward took a deep breath and smiled, allowing his Fire Butterfly to return inside.

"Having a variety of attacks helps

in every situation," he murmured with a smile, but at the sa ti he frowned and the smile faded from his face.

"The problem is synchronization."

During these two weeks, he has been able to learn several things about his Talent and his beasts.

First, for now, he can’t use two different beasts at the sa ti. It is possible to train fire magic when they are all out, but only up to the "Imitation" phase. From there, he begins to have severe headaches because the synchronization suffers interference.

Much less can he use fire magic, having any of the others out. When one is in combat, the others are on standby, and to switch between them, he has to go through the synchronization stage, which is truly complicated.

The first ti he did it, he fainted from the headache. Now he still gets headaches, but they are more tolerable.

This ans that each of his beasts develops its own Magic Tree independently, forcing him to change "Nodes" every ti he wants to cast another type of magic.

It’s not a problem, looking back on it. But in real ti, it’s slightly uncomfortable.

’Although it’s not bad.’ He answered himself with a slight smile. ’It allows

to control my magic better independently, which is appreciated, since I don’t get overwheld with so much information.’

He analyzed the fight he had and learned from it. Each ti there was a substantial improvent; next ti would be better.

He looked at the wooden clock on the wall, which indicated that there were only five minutes left to finish his cycle for today.

He left the room and left a note to tell them about the damage he had caused. There were nine broken puppets and little else.

’Maybe that’s why it’s so expensive. They let

break everything I want.’ Edward smiled and, after leaving the note, left the building.

Downstairs, the receptionists greeted him politely, considering him a frequent custor. He was the only one who had rented a room for two weeks in the last six months, after all.

"What did he break this ti?" one receptionist asked quietly.

"I hope it’s not too much..." One of them sighed. "He has a tendency to break so much that it gives

a headache."

Another one laughed. "Rich people and their stuff. We’ll never understand them."

"But I heard he’s not rich... He’s the new Lux at the academy, you know? His family is poor."

"Really? You an he’s spending money to evolve his beast, to learn magic?"

"That’s what I heard... Plus, apparently he doesn’t have just one beast, he has four."

"A Multiple Beast Master? God... He can’t spend his money like that..."

"He can’t do anything." The one who answered sighed. "Apparently, a nobleman is angry with him and banned him from the training ground."

"Those nobles..." The woman was even upset on Edward’s behalf.

TOC. Suddenly, the reception desk rang out: "Talking about custors is not appropriate, ladies."

"M-m-manager." The receptionists smiled and apologized. "Forgive us."

"Haha." The manager laughed. "Although I’m just as interested as you are." The manager was a young, well-dressed man. He was not a weak person; he had wealth and several businesses. He turned to look at Edward walking in the streets. "I recently heard his na in high places... it seems he are soone interesting."

The receptionists looked at him in shock...
