Chapter 136: Total Destruction
Unedited*
The count knew about the ranking the general had ntioned. It’s an internal Línnava ranking that very few people have access to. Essentially, it’s a ranking of closely guarded military secrets.
These are usually treasures, mysteries, or extrely powerful beasts. Very rarely are they humans, and they should never be humans at the academic level.
But a human at the academic level, ranked within the top 50? Not even the Count has access to that level of secrecy!
At most, he can see everything outside the Top 100.
But here was a person who could be his son, classified as a military secret he couldn’t access.
He could only think that they were deceiving him about this person’s age, and that made him clench his fists in anger.
"We’re going to fight him. Just because he’s a mber of the ard forces doesn’t give him the right to stand in front of
and stop
with our army," the count said coldly.
The hooded man smiled slightly upon hearing this. "Very well, Count. I hope you’re good at fighting."
Although he was already achieving his goal...
Soon, the Count commanded his troops to fight and drive this man away from the area. The sound of swords cutting through the air and spears seeking out the man’s body filled the silence of the night along the road.
A massive mountain lood in the background, and above it, the moon seed to be taking on a strangely reddish hue.
Everything seed poised to watch the battle unfolding here with keen interest...
.
"Bastard, you’re cunning!"
"But you can’t run away anymore!"
"How does it feel to fall into my hands, you slippery bastard?!" The Count ordered his n to deliver a final thrust, though not to kill him.
But the sword and spear that struck out at the hooded man’s body missed their mark.
The figure vanished and reappeared above the grass and overgrown brush surrounding the road and imdiately began to run, disappearing from sight in no ti.
"Don’t let him get away—that bastard must pay!" roared the count. He was so furious he wanted to slit the throat of any fool who crossed his path.
They had been fighting a single man for over 30 minutes!
Just one!
And they had been toyed with, like a cat toying with its prey!
"Don’t let him get away!"
So of the soldiers were just as angry, so they began running in the direction he had fled.
"Stop!" the general roared just then.
He had chosen to remain neutral in the situation because he didn’t think his presence was necessary. But as the minutes passed and the horses died, so of his subordinates were even wounded, and that man still wouldn’t go down, he realized that even he had underestimated him.
He never thought soone so young could be so skilled... His admiration for him grew within him.
That’s why, when he saw them charging, he stepped forward.
The Count turned sharply to look at him. "What’s going on, General?" he asked. His voice trembled with anger.
"Do you want to cripple such a talented young man, just because you’re angry? He only got in your way because you’re quite foolish, Count," said the general.
"Foolish?" The Count clenched his fists. "I know full well that your status is impressive, General. But I am still the Count, and now all of you are under my command. How dare you call
foolish?"
The general shook his head and motioned for his subordinates to return. "The problem is that you don’t realize how foolish you’ve been. But I won’t say any more. As you say, I’m your subordinate now. I’ll just tell you that you shouldn’t cripple soone so talented who serves the kingdom. You may not care about killing talent, but I’ll go against you if you end up killing soone who isn’t your direct enemy."
The count watched his subordinates disobey his order, but after several seconds of breathing heavily with rage, he managed to calm down.
’Calm down... They’re Royal Soldiers. You can’t use them for whatever you want since you’re of such a low rank. Just be patient. Soon you’ll be able to rise in rank, and none of them will dare to disobey you.’ He told himself, trying to calm down...
"Let’s resu," he said, but as he turned around, rage surged through his body...
Only four horses were left alive!
--
Several dozen undead lay scattered on the ground, throughout a cave that was longer than it was wide. Two figures moved among them like dancers to the beat of a deadly lody.
Every sword strike and every magical explosion ant another body on the ground. This strange duo was not evenly matched; it was evident.
The mage was far too powerful, outmatching the swordsman in effectiveness by more than five tis. Despite that, the swordsman had sohow managed to keep up with him.
He moved swiftly among the corpses and reached the last one still standing. His sword swept fiercely across, delivering a perfect cut to the neck that decapitated the ard undead.
Finally, Edward and Gideon were able to breathe a sigh of relief.
"We can’t keep going deeper. We’ve only gone through two rooms, and this feels like it’s taking forever," said Gideon, complaining openly.
Edward laughed. "You’re right. Besides, these suits of armor are so good that if you don’t land a perfect hit, you’re in trouble," he said, pointing to his left side as proof.
He’d been stabbed, and they’d nearly destroyed one of his organs. It was so dangerous it could have been fatal.
Gideon, on the other hand, wasn’t injured. Not even when three undead approached him from behind did he flinch. The three were blown up and frozen to avoid burning through so much oxygen.
They simply weren’t on the sa level.
"Despite that, you’ve done well. It’s clear you’re a rookie, but I’ve never seen a rookie be this good in a close-range lee like this." Gideon acknowledged.
"Stop flattering
and let’s get out of here. I don’t know how much ti has passed, and I have no idea if they’ll co this way or from above. Getting the information and cutting off the connection to the Comrcial City will be enough for now," said Edward.
They both walked back toward the inverted castle, fleeing from another horde of undead wearing amazing armor.
Where the hell did they get enough money to outfit undead with that armor? That was the question they asked themselves at first... But after trying to strip the armor off them, they realized they weren’t that stupid.
It was living armor powered by the undead’s energy and fused to the undead’s body. If you killed the undead, you couldn’t separate them. If you didn’t kill it, but instead erased it with a skill like Incineration Pollen, then the armor would activate a strange living energy that would reveal its location and prevent it from being stored in a ring.
The owners of these things weren’t that stupid.
That’s why it wasn’t worth killing so many of them. Beyond the experience they gave Edward, they simply wouldn’t gain anything from it.
Fortunately, that allowed him to rack up massive amounts of experience points in these last few minutes. He hadn’t been able to level up much over the past few days, so Edward was grateful from the bottom of his heart.
As soon as they entered the previous room, they felt a sudden drop in the oxygen around them and struggled to breathe.
"This place is going to blow up," Gideon said, starting to walk quickly. "Have your n destroy the entire inverted castle, the entrance, and the upper floors. I’ll send my n to do the sa."
Edward nodded and followed behind him, making his way through the castle...
-
Suddenly, explosion after explosion began to occur, rising from deep within the earth to the height of an imposing five-story building.
The explosions woke up the entire Comrcial City. The guards, politicians, businesspeople, and ordinary citizens all rose to see what was happening.
"Those are beautiful fireworks," said Edward, smiling slightly.
"They are, Young Master," Harry smiled.
From a distance, Harry and Edward watched the explosion and the beautiful fireworks lighting up the city.
"Young Master, were all objectives achieved?" Harry asked suddenly.
"The information has been extracted, and the primary objective was achieved. The Red Moon Cave no longer has a place in the Comrcial City, and they have been branded as traitors. From today onward, it will be truly difficult for them to operate as an independent entity," Edward replied.
"But we didn’t achieve all our objectives." He shook his head with a sigh. "We only managed to capture two of the twelve leaders."
"Weren’t they able to find them either?" Harry asked, glancing in the distance at Gideon standing next to one of his subordinates.
"Well... we’ll never know what those guys are up to, will we?" Edward smiled and shrugged. "They’ve probably found sothing, but they’re just not going to say."
"Hehe, you’re right, Young Master." Harry smiled. "Will we keep working together?" he asked. This ti he wasn’t looking at Gideon, but at Edward.
Edward was silent for several seconds. "We certainly will, Harry. But I’ll have to step back a bit from these kinds of missions. I’m too weak, and it’s stressful just to stay in the background."
Harry laughed. "That’s the feeling I’m dood to feel for the rest of my life, Young Master. At least I’m glad you share it."
Edward didn’t reply.
Clank! Clank! Clank!
The sound of tal boots striking the ground reached them.
"They’re late," Edward sneered, before hiding in the darkness. "We’d better get back. We have nothing to do with what these guys do or don’t do from now on. The mission has been completed."
