After you reported to the Military Departnt, an order imdiately ca down from above, requesting that you take on the role of an ordinary infantry company captain under Li Zhengfeng, the son of Li Jing.

In the Tang Dynasty, as a military commander leading troops, the limit for commanding soldiers at the front was no more than 20,000, among which 6,000 served as logistical personnel and did not participate directly in combat. These 6,000 could act as the total reserve force at critical monts of the battle, joining the battlefield as the final strike to defeat the enemy. The remaining 14,000 were combat troops.

The 14,000 were divided into 280 companies, organized into different units for combat deploynt: 80 cavalry companies totaling 4,000 soldiers and 200 infantry companies totaling 10,000 soldiers.

For combat missions, the 14,000 soldiers were divided into 280 companies:

1. The Long-range Strike Team comprised 84 companies with 4,200 personnel, of which the Archer Team had 44 companies with 2,200 archers, and the Crossbow Team had 40 companies with 2,000 crossbown.

2. The Rapid Reaction Cavalry Team had 80 companies with 4,000 cavalry.

3. The infantry consisted of 116 companies with 5,800 soldiers, including the Dare to Die Assault Team with 58 companies and 2,900 n and the Special Task Force with 58 companies and 2,900 n (their main task was to protect the archers from enemy long-range attacks; if the enemy lacked long-range troops during combat, they could operate long-range weapons to attack the enemy, but with low accuracy).

The core of the army was the company (infantry, cavalry, etc.), typically 50 n strong. These 50 had to be as close as brothers who would swear blood oaths and light yellow paper together; the three closest sworn brothers ford a squad, three squads ford a platoon, and five platoons ford a larger unit, a company. Of the remaining five, one was the company captain, with two standard bearers, one deputy captain, and one person serving as both the military judge and secretary.

When you heard that you were just an ordinary company captain, you did not show any negative emotions. Instead, your face revealed a smile that others could not understand.

Excitent, that’s right, it was excitent. Although your current combat power was strong enough to command tens of thousands, your experience in commanding warfare was zero. The Military Departnt would certainly not show favoritism because of your status. This was already special treatnt from Li Jing. Had Marshal Luo been the commander, you might have been a mber of the suicide squad.

You were already quite satisfied because this was the first ti you truly experienced the breath of war. The mont you were led into the military camp, it seed as if all the muscles in your body swelled, and you felt an inexhaustible strength throughout.

The company assigned to you by Li Zhengfeng was not the strongest in his infantry, nor the weakest, but the most troubleso.

This was not Li Zhengfeng giving you a hard ti, but Luo Cheng’s intention.

It was, in fact, Luo Cheng’s only instruction for this war. Li Jing complied, although he also did not quite understand Luo Cheng’s purpose. Your company was hastily assembled. Li Zhengfeng had personally chosen fifty death row prisoners and cobbled them together, keeping them in the center of the infantry camp.

Upon entering your camp, the first person you saw was a familiar face: "Shi Kai!"

"Second Young Master!"

In just a few months, you never expected such a radical change in Shi Kai.

The original Shi Kai was a weak youth, but now he not only wore a crisp military uniform, he had also grown more than ten centiters taller, and his face had beco much more resolute. The current Shi Kai was distinctly different from before; you felt he had beco colder and more fearso, and from him, you could faintly detect the scent of blood.

Although Shi Kai’s face remained expressionless upon seeing you, his eyes showed a slight flicker of emotion, which he quickly suppressed. You approached directly, wrapped an arm around Shi Kai’s shoulder, and said with a smile, "I didn’t expect to see you here. Did my father send you?"

"No, I killed soone and was thrown into death row. Later, I was chosen by a general to join the military camp."

"Killed soone?" You were visibly taken aback. "Who did you kill?"

"A monk from Huichang Temple."

"Bian Ji?" The only monk you knew from Huichang Temple was Etymology, and you naturally blurted it out.

"Yes, a total of one hundred and thirty-six people in the temple."

Shi Kai’s statent completely stunned you; the kid was at most fourteen years old, yet you hadn’t anticipated such a murderous streak, killing one hundred and thirty-six monks in one go. No wonder he had been consigned to death row.

As for the reason Shi Kai killed, you didn’t ask nor wanted to know because that represented the past, while Shi Kai’s future was now entirely in your hands. Since Shi Kai was your soldier from this mont on, you had an absolute duty to pave a sunlit path for his life.

"Hey, Shi Kai, you’ve actually reached the Combined Martial Realm. I didn’t expect you to progress so quickly. I rember a few months ago, you were just a brat," you said, clearly surprised by Shi Kai’s progress.

"All of my skills were personally taught by Marshal Luo. It’s just that I failed to et the expectations of Marshal Luo," Shi Kai replied, his eyes slightly reddening.

"That’s not a problem at all. A man must do what he must, even if it ans standing against the whole society, against all customs. In this respect, I admire you. Rest assured, staying with won’t be any worse than with my father!" you said and patted Shi Kai’s shoulder vigorously.

Not far behind Shi Kai, you noticed about forty people sitting scattered around. Although they looked disheveled, each possessed considerable strength. You could tell that so of them had even entered the Qi Gathering Realm; if in Jianghu society, they would be formidable figures. Among them, there was a middle-aged man who, although you couldn’t sense any ability from him and he looked like a scholar incapable of fighting, you felt a strange sense of familiarity toward him.

"Second Young Master, all these n are death row prisoners. Although everyone’s cris differ, not a single one is utterly wicked; everyone has their own hardships. Hearing that you are the son of Marshal Luo, everyone here felt excited. Please say a few words to them."

Clearly, Shi Kai had already beco familiar with these n before you arrived, and judging from their gaze toward Shi Kai, it included a glimr of hope and a bit of fear.

"Um, I’m not one for nonsense, and I, Luo Yun, have never had a habit of talking nonsense. Since everyone is here today, becoming my subordinates, then I can shalessly say that as long as you’re on the battlefield and the enemy doesn’t chop off your heads, your lives will certainly be spared. As for why, I won’t delve into that now. We don’t have much ti given by the higher-ups, just a re three days to reorganize. After that, we will head to the frontier."
