The most fear-inducing thing is darkness, but once there is light, those terrifying feelings can easily be blown away.

Although the light was dim, everything in the room could still be seen clearly.

Walking up to the cabinet, you noticed that the glass on its surface had shattered, and inside were a few books covered in dust.

Picking up one at random, you glanced at it and said softly, "Didn’t Chen Hao say the last owner was a painter from China? Why would there be German books on music theory?"

Ruan Yuling looked at you and asked, "Do you understand German?"

"Mm, I can manage to read it simply. German is quite similar to French; learning one is essentially like learning both."

"I never thought you would study so hard."

"It’s just a hobby. Besides, when I’m free, I might as well read more and increase my knowledge a bit."

As you spoke, you flipped through a few other books, then your brow lightly furrowed, "Strange, why are all these books in German?"

"Maybe the painter collected them."

You nodded and turned to search another cabinet, only to find this one was completely empty.

"There’s nothing here, let’s go out."

"Okay."

No sooner had you both stepped out of the room than a series of urgent telephone rings reached your ears.

"Why is there a ringing phone?"

The sound of the telephone ring was that of the oldest kind, similar to a ringtone so iPhones have today.

The sound kept ringing, showing no sign of stopping.

Ruan Yuling turned to glance behind, then looked forward, "It seems to co from ahead."

"Mm, let’s go take a look."

Exiting the room, there was a left turn three ters ahead. You followed the sound and turned the corner in the hallway, only to discover another similar corridor. To the right were two doors, and on the left wall hung a painting, under which there was a small table with an old telephone constantly ringing on it.

Standing in front of the phone, you stared at it. After a minute, it kept ringing, showing no intention of stopping.

"Should we pick it up and have a listen?" Ruan Yuling tentatively asked.

You shook your head, "Under such circumstances, this telephone is an obvious trap. If any of us were to answer it, sothing bad would definitely happen."

As you spoke, you turned to look towards the end of the hallway, where there was another turn, also to the left. Thus, four hallways ford a square.

Without lingering, you ignored the phone and walked briskly towards the end of the corridor. After turning the corner, you were surprised to find that the hallway still stretched straight ahead, with no staircases leading elsewhere.

Having seen the exterior of the house from outside, you were well aware that this mansion had a broad footprint, and there had to be more rooms than this.

Could this be an illusion?

Frowning, you continued along the corridor.

However, after a full loop, to your surprise, not only was there no breakthrough, but even the spiral staircase that led back to the living room had disappeared as well.

"What happened? Why is this place different from before?"

Ruan Yuling stretched out a hand to pat the wall in front of her where the staircase entrance originally was.

The eerie telephone ring still continued.

"Shall we circle back?"

"It’s no use," you shake your head, a solemn expression imdiately appearing on your face, "If I’m not mistaken, the mont the phone rang, we already entered a new setup."

"Yet another setup. Who is it this ti? Who’s playing gas with us?"

Standing in the hallway, darkness looms ahead of you in the corridor, while the darkness behind stretches endlessly as well.

At this ti, you naturally think of Yan Xin, who had fled in advance during the extermination of those demons and monsters.

Although the current environnt is sowhat different from what you encountered before, with stronger boundary strength and a more intricate layout, it also contains many things you have never seen before. In particular, soone—or sothing—that could seal all your abilities must be found as soon as possible; the longer it drags on, the worse it is for you.

"Hey, wait a minute."

Ruan Yuling tilts her head up slightly, looking at the old oil painting on the wall, which depicts a brown vase with withered flower branches.

"This painting is wrong," Ruan Yuling turns to say to you, "When we were climbing the stairs earlier, the painting hanging on the wall was different."

"How so?"

"The first ti I saw it, the flowers in the painting were blooming, but now the flowers in the vase are dead."

"Are you sure?"

Ruan Yuling nods earnestly.

After glancing left and right once more, you turn to Ruan Yuling and say, "Wait for here. I’m going to run a couple of laps and check."

"...Okay, um... Go ahead."

Although Ruan Yuling is scared, she knows that at this mont she can only rely on you. No matter how scared she is, she has to remain composed.

You can clearly see the fear in Ruan Yuling’s heart, so you take out a piece of Black Charm Paper from your pocket and fold it into a Thousand Paper Cranes.

"Hold out your hand."

Although surprised, Ruan Yuling obediently extends her hand.

You place the Black Thousand Paper Cranes in Ruan Yuling’s palm and earnestly say, "This is an amulet; hold onto it, and those filthy things won’t dare to co near you."

Ruan Yuling nods, not fully understanding but clearly trusting you, and she really holds the Black Thousand Paper Cranes tightly in her hand.

"I’m going!"

Without the slightest hesitation, you turn and start sprinting back along the path you’d taken before!

Actually, that Black Charm Paper was of no real use; it was just sothing you had casually bought from a stall during a stroll. It had no effect at all, not even comparing to the most ordinary Yellow Talisman Paper. However, it could at least have a calming effect on people’s hearts.

The four interconnected corridors ford a square, and you are now running counter-clockwise. After two laps, you return to Ruan Yuling’s side.

"How is it?"

Shaking your head slightly, you sigh softly, "No good, I’ll try running clockwise for two laps."

During the run just now, you had been carefully observing your surroundings and found that, as Ruan Yuling had said, the paintings on the walls changed with each lap, life and death alternate.

However, when you ran clockwise, you unexpectedly discovered that although the sound of the ringing phone still filled your ears, you could no longer see it. Instead of the old telephone, there was a pot of blooming wax plum flowers on the little table where it had been. Running another lap, the old telephone appeared again.

Seeing you running over, Ruan Yuling cos up to you in a hurry and asks, "Have you found a breakthrough?"

"Yes."

You nod your head and without a word, imdiately take her hand and start running together through the four sealed corridors in the original direction.
