The corridor lights were still the energy-saving bulbs that Su Xiaong had bought with her own money last month, then she asked an electrician for a stepladder and installed them herself; she never expected that in just one month, the lights would already be broken again.
"Forget it, if they’re broken, they’re broken; I’ll just use my phone’s flashlight from now on."
Su Xiaong’s rented room was on the third floor. She used the built-in flashlight on her phone to navigate the mottled corridor walls. The stairs here were just bare concrete, and although not dirty and disorganized, they showed the age of the building. Su Xiaong never touched the handrails next to the stairs, which were made of wood that had beco dirty and black due to the passage of ti.
"Click-clack, click-clack..."
The surroundings were terrifyingly quiet—aside from the occasional car horn in the distance, the only sound Su Xiaong could hear was her high heels striking the hard concrete stairs.
The elderly uncles and aunties nearby generally went to bed as soon as it got dark, and the neighboring houses, all old as well, had little lighting; even if there were lights, it was hard for them to reach here.
Just as she was about to reach the second floor, Su Xiaong’s phone flashlight flickered once and then went out entirely.
Su Xiaong hurriedly quickened her pace and made it up to the second floor.
"What happened? My phone isn’t broken."
She unlocked her phone, checked it, and found that it wasn’t damaged before turning the flashlight on again.
And just as the flashlight illuminated her surroundings in an instant, a figure suddenly appeared in Su Xiaong’s line of sight!
"Ah!"
Su Xiaong was startled and shuddered all over!
"Huff, huff, huff—"
It turned out that there was a mirror on the wall in front of her. It hadn’t seed like much during the day, but at night, one could be startled by the reflection in the mirror.
"Really, I don’t know who would place a mirror here."
Su Xiaong cast a glance at herself in the mirror with so annoyance, then continued walking upstairs.
Her figure quickly passed through the mirror, and the sound of her high heels clicking, "click-clack, click-clack..." echoed in the corridor once more.
As usual, the first thing Su Xiaong did when she got ho was to take a shower, washing away the day’s fatigue with hot water.
After the bath, she stood in front of the bathroom mirror drying her hair. When she bowed her head to dry the back of her head, she naturally lowered it.
It’s more troubleso for girls with long hair to wash their hair, and Su Xiaong had a head full of shiny black long hair, which was one of her proud attributes.
As she was blow-drying the back of her head with her head down, her reflection in the mirror slowly lifted its head with a hint of a malevolent smile at the corners of its mouth!
The Su Xiaong reflected in the mirror had her black hair loose. She lifted her hand, slowly reaching out from the mirror. When that hand erged from the mirror, it imdiately turned into a skeletal one, with blood-red nail polish applied, the nails sharp as daggers!
"Answer the phone! Hurry up and answer the phone!! You’re going to die! Why aren’t you picking it up!!"
As those sharp nails were about to pierce her, Su Xiaong’s phone in her bedroom suddenly started ringing.
Su Xiaong jerked her head up, and the mirror in front of her was back to normal.
She grabbed a dry cloth, wiped her head as she walked out of the bathroom, and picked up the phone from the nightstand: "Hello, Little Lan, why are you calling so late, what’s up?"
"Geez, my dear, why did you take so long to answer the phone."
"What happened, did sothing happen?" Su Xiaong’s face changed, an unpleasant premonition rising in her.
"That bitch Xu Jiao has actually gotten together with that Old bald man!"
"What!?"
Xu Jiao was Su Xiaong’s mortal enemy; ever since they joined the company, they had been at odds, waging their battles both openly and covertly for over two years, each with their own wins and losses.
"Just now, I saw Xu Jiao and that Old bald man entering a hotel together, arm in arm, looking very cozy!"
"It’s over, it’s over, I didn’t expect her to end up going down this path," Little Lan said.
"What do we do now? Knowing Xu Jiao’s character, she’ll definitely make your life hell!"
Su Xiaong let out a heavy sigh and collapsed onto the bed, "Looks like I’ll have to hand in my resignation letter tomorrow."
"Is it really that serious?"
"Hmph, with Xu Jiao’s tricks, if I continue to stay, she might even destroy the reputation I’ve worked so hard to build over the years in the industry. Now that she’s just started, before she has a chance to conspire, I must leave in ti."
"But now that the year’s end is nearly upon us, won’t you lose your year-end bonus by doing this?"
"Even if I stay, that bitch will definitely find ways to dock my year-end bonus. If I leave now, at least I can leave with a good reputation."
"Well, that’s true. So, what are you planning to do?"
Su Xiaong turned over, swinging her feet and said, "One step at a ti..."
The next day, Su Xiaong was late for the first ti in her life, whether it was for school or work, this was the first ti, and probably the only ti.
Before the Old bald man could scold her, Su Xiaong had already handed in her resignation letter, then left gracefully under the astonished gazes of her colleagues.
That was Su Xiaong, a sharp and decisive girl!
But what should she do next?
Standing at the bus stop, Su Xiaong suddenly felt a bit lost.
Lost in her thoughts, a silver Aston Martin supercar roared up and stopped next to Su Xiaong.
As Su Xiaong looked on in amazent, the car window rolled down, revealing a handso yet as cold as a block of ice, Jiang Leng.
The man was none other than Jiang Leng.
Jiang Leng looked at Su Xiaong with an indifferent expression and asked, "Are you Su Xiaong?"
Su Xiaong instinctively nodded her head.
"Get in."
"Huh?"
...
This was Su Xiaong’s first ti in a sports car. She didn’t know much about cars, but she could tell from its appearance that it was expensive, oh no, super expensive!
"My na is Jiang Leng," Jiang Leng said nonchalantly as he drove.
"I’m Su Xiaong," she said, a bit surprised but quickly regaining her composure, "How do you know ? We haven’t t before, have we?"
Glancing sideways at her, Jiang Leng answered indifferently, "Saw you last night in the restaurant, and afterwards you slapped my friend on the street."
"Oh! So it was you!" Su Xiaong instantly beca alert, "Well, that was just a misunderstanding last night, you rich people wouldn’t be so petty, right?"
Jiang Leng didn’t reply, instead, he parked the car near a park entrance.
Then, he took out a sandalwood box from the storage compartnt next to him and handed it to Su Xiaong.
"What’s this?"
Su Xiaong didn’t take it, they were only eting for the second ti, and no girl would be foolish enough to just accept things from soone like that.
"These are sandalwood Buddha beads, not valuable, so don’t worry and just wear them," he said.
Frowning, Su Xiaong opened the sandalwood box to find indeed a string of Buddha beads inside, and she asked, "Why do you want to wear Buddha beads?"
