When you ntioned this, everyone quickly lined up and passed through.
After all of you had made it through, the light spot soon disappeared, and the barrier wall returned to its original state.
Zhang Hua, who was standing at the end of the line, reached out to touch the barrier wall but was hastily stopped by you, "Don’t touch it!"
Zhang Hua turned around, "Sorry, I was just curious."
"Sotis, hobodies start with curiosity."
"Hmm." Zhang Hua nodded and caught up with the group’s pace.
After walking for a while, a small clearing with a wooden cabin ant for resting appeared in front of you, with a stream babbling about ten ters from the cabin.
"How co there’s a wooden cabin here? Does soone live here?" Hu Jiahui asked Zhang Hua, turning his head.
Zhang Hua thought for a mont and said, "My brother told that there are small cabins for rest scattered throughout the mountains for the villagers to stay overnight when they gather herbs, all built collectively."
"Let’s spend the night here," you said to everyone.
"The surroundings here aren’t bad at all, and that little stream is so clear." For Qi Gaojie and Zhang Zhaoyuan who cared about scenery and the journey, such an adventure was exactly what they were looking forward to.
"Gurgle~"
Zong Wangyue’s stomach grumbled apropos, and checking your wristwatch, you realized it was already three in the afternoon, and you hadn’t had lunch yet.
"Everyone must be hungry; let’s sit down and have a rest," you glanced at the people around you and asked, "You all brought food, right?"
"Hehe, Boss, don’t worry, the stuff in my backpack will fill us up!"
Speaking of food, Zong Wangyue, the ever-hungry one, could never leave ho without a full supply of edibles.
Everyone sat down on the ground outside the wooden cabin, with Xian Qianling sitting next to you, passing you a packet of biscuits.
"It’s okay, I can just eat these compact biscuits."
"We are just in the mountains, at most half a day away from Wu Village; it’s not like we are surviving in the wilderness," said Xian Qianling in irritation, seemingly reverting to her usual attitude toward you. Yet, when she looked at you, there was sothing more in her eyes.
At this mont, you dared not make eye contact with Xian Qianling, as you had gotten to know her personality and character over ti. The initial aversion had faded, giving way to unexpected feelings of affection. You found her more and more forthright and daring.
Naturally, you did not wish for these feelings to change, much less to advance the relationship between you and her.
"We may not need to survive in the wilderness, but it’s still good to store up food since there are nine of us," you said, turning to look at Zong Wangyue who was eagerly gnawing at the packaged pig’s feet, "Zongzi, after a bit you and Little Jin go and collect so dry firewood nearby."
"Alright, Boss, those compressed biscuits are so hard and dry, have an apple instead."
Zong Wangyue took an apple out of his travel bag and tossed it to you.
You caught the apple and saw it was greasy, shaking your head with a smile, and then stood up to walk toward the nearby stream.
The mountain stream was especially clear, the water filtered through natural substances at each level, looking utterly untainted.
You bent down and took a sip, and yes, it was sweet and quenching.
Just then, the apple slipped from your hand and dropped into the stream, floating downstream.
"Oh, co on."
Just as you sighed about the mishap, you noticed the apple got trapped in a corner between two rocks, perhaps because the current was quite swift.
Walking along the shore, you picked up an apple from the cracks between the stones and noticed it had a dent in it, looking as if soone had bitten into it.
Just as you were about to leave, you suddenly discovered that one of the stones seed to bear the marks of human carving.
Bending down, you cleared away the grass and vegetation and indeed, the stone was a rather small statue.
Typically, such statues are incarnations of the Mountain God.
You glanced to the side and saw a pathway not far off, leading downwards continuously.
Long ago, this place must have been where herbalists rested and drank water, but as the creek’s water level rose over ti, people gradually moved to higher ground.
Holding the apple that seed to have been bitten, you smiled, forcefully split the apple in two, and placed the half with a bite taken out of it in front of the statue, along with half a piece of compressed biscuit.
"Sorry, this is all I have on . If I have the chance, I’ll bring you so tastier things later," you apologized.
While you were speaking, you suddenly heard Zong Wangyue’s startled call from the direction of the wooden hut; you imdiately turned around and quickly ran over.
Arriving at the hut, you found neither Zong Wangyue nor Zhang Zhaoyuan and asked Xian Qianling, "Where are Zongzi and the numbskull?"
Xian Qianling couldn’t help but purse her lips and chuckle when you called Zhang Zhaoyuan a numbskull, and she pointed behind the wooden hut with her hand.
There was a terrace behind the hut, where Zong Wangyue and Zhang Zhaoyuan were sneaking around not far ahead.
"What are you guys doing?"
As soon as you appeared, Zong Wangyue hastily said, "Boss, look, there’s a cave over there!"
Standing next to Zong Wangyue and following his pointed finger, you indeed saw a cave beneath a rock wall ahead.
"It’s just a cave. Did you need to scream so desperately? I thought a female yeti dragged you away and had her way with you," you teased.
"Heh heh, with my looks, they’d drag off Little Jin and Hu Jiahui, those two Little White Faces," Zong Wangyue said with a cheeky grin, "Boss, we were just discussing with Zhao Yuan whether or not to go explore it."
"It’s just a broken cave, at most a few ters deep. You can see the bottom with a flash of your flashlight," you said dismissively.
Zong Wangyue pointed at himself and said, "Boss, do you think I’m that idiotic?"
Seeing Zong Wangyue’s serious face, you laughed and retorted, "When have you ever been normal?"
Zong Wangyue scratched his head, "Uh, seems like you’re right. But still, this cave is really deep! I already shone the flashlight in, and it feels spooky inside; without your lead, the brothers are scared to enter."
"You coward, it’s just a cave. What’s there to be afraid of?" Xian Qianling and the others ca over as well.
"Sister-in-law, you’re a female hero, a warrior woman, I can’t compare to you," Zong Wangyue said with a smile as everyone gathered around, "Since we’re free anyway, why don’t we all go take a look?"
Xian Qianling’s first reaction was to turn her head to look at you, seeking your opinion.
Before you could speak, Qi Gaojie, that fool, already holding a flashlight and turned on a DV, walked inside, "Co on, our adventure begins now."
You scratched your head, sowhat puzzled by these people’s thinking.
Just then, Xian Qianling leaned in and whispered in your ear, "If we go into the cave, wouldn’t it be easier for the hidden enemy to reveal themselves?"
Feeling the warm breath on your ear from Xian Qianling, your heart couldn’t help but stir with a flutter of excitent.
You turned your head away, pulling at your ear and said, "Alright then, everybody maintain a good formation."
