Chapter 978: Chapter 978: Sleeping Beauty 12
In just a short ti, they had lost three teammates.
Max and Ken wore grim faces.
Lucia couldn’t stop crying.
Tan Xiao looked here and there, still confused as a monk scratching his head.
After finishing one cigarette, Max lit another and spoke, “We should split up, otherwise we will all be wiped out. Even if we don’t get the sword, at least we should save our lives.”
Ken was stunned and instinctively looked at Max.
He thought Max’s suggestion was strange. Surely, the safest strategy would be to keep everyone together?
But as he was about to voice his objection, he saw Max give him a aningful glance.
Ken looked at Max, full of confusion.
Max turned his head and looked at Tan Xiao not far away, “Hey, now there are only three of us left on this side. Do you want to join? We could team up in pairs to see who gets the King’s sword first.”
Tan Xiao scratched his head, “Okay, but… who would I team up with?”
Max threw away his cigarette butt, carelessly crushed it, and said calmly, “Ken and I know each other better. So, you and Lucia can team up.”
Tan Xiao frowned, “Oh, I get it. You think won are a drag and don’t want to deal with her, right?”
Max remained non-committal and did not respond.
Tan Xiao looked at them disdainfully, then turned to Lucia and thumped his chest, “Don’t worry, from now on, Brother Xiao has got your back!”
Max gave a faint smile and asked Lucia, “Is this arrangent okay?”
Tears still hung on the corners of Lucia’s eyes; she had no opinion and nodded timidly.
Max raised his hand to pat Ken’s shoulder, “Let’s go for a walk and see if we can find so clues.”
Ken hesitated, glanced at Lucia and Tan Xiao, furrowed his brows, and followed Max.
As they climbed the stairs, at the corner, Ken couldn’t help but stop Max, “Hey, is this really a good idea? Everyone splitting up—what if sothing really happens and it’s too hard for one to survive?”
Max looked back.
“I just want to conduct an experint,” he said.
“What kind of experint?” Ken asked.
“To see if that silly boy will die,” Max replied with a light smile.
“You an…” Ken hesitated, “Lucia is the problem?”
“Both tis sothing happened, it was to people tead up with her,” Max said calmly, “Of course, that’s just one aspect… Tell , as far as you can recall, did Willard ever recruit female subjects?”
Ken froze, “Now that you ask… it seems like I’ve never seen any female subjects. When I first saw her, I thought Willard had recruited too many people, so I didn’t notice.”
Max chuckled, “When we first entered the ga, everyone was scattered. She could easily take their place since we didn’t know each other. And don’t forget, Lucia’s hair is also golden.”
Ken pondered this, his expression growing darker, “You’re right… The rules forbid players from killing, but what if Lucia isn’t a player? The rule wouldn’t apply to her!”
“So, wait and see,” Max lowered his voice and said slowly, “If that silly boy also falls into trouble, then it’s not a coincidence, and we don’t need to say anything, just go and finish her off. The key to this ga must be hidden with the Princess.”
“Okay,” Ken grasped the sword in his hand, “Let’s do as you said!”
…
A long corridor stretched ahead; windows lined one side, rooms the other.
Tan Xiao peered into each in turn, finding neither the so-called Princess nor any blades or weapons.
“I should have chosen a fighting ga,” he muttered as he searched, chatting with Lucia behind him, “Searching gas don’t suit a man full of masculine energy like . Hey, Lucia, do you know what masculinity is? It ans being a real man, you know? I’m just that, a man who would never abandon a woman. Now that you’re with , you can rest easy…”
The silhouette of a woman on the wall was gradually distorting…
