The sun was scorching hot, and the sand was blistering from the heat.
The two walked one behind the other, shaded by banana leaves.
Du Lai walked in front and Fu Miaoxue followed behind, separated by a few ters… She tried several tis to say sothing to ease the tension but couldn’t bring herself to speak.
They were back at the big rock.

So, their food… was only the wild fruits Du Lai had brought back.
Fu Miaoxue touched her stomach, quietly walked to Du Lai’s side, and asked, “Are we going to catch fish again?”
“The tide’s up, can’t catch any.” Du Lai replied.
Fu Miaoxue sat down beside him and tentatively asked again, “Then… should we go when the tide is low?”
“It’s too late; it’s dark and can’t catch anything then.” Du Lai lay on the ground sideways, speaking flatly with no emotion.
Fu Miaoxue: “…”
Her stomach growled with hunger.
“Otherwise, let’s make a fishing net? You ntioned last ti that we could use bark and vines to make a net.” Fu Miaoxue said unwillingly.
Du Lai closed his eyes and replied with just three words:
“I’m tired.”
Fu Miaoxue: “…”
She felt defeated and also a surge of frustration, speaking in an irritated tone: “You’re a man, how can your temper be worse than mine? Doing nothing, are we just going to wait here to starve to death?”
Du Lai was silent for two seconds, then sat up, looking at her calmly and said, “I really am tired, I want to rest now, can we have so quiet?”
Fu Miaoxue bit her lower lip.
He glanced at her, then turned his gaze away and lay back down.
Fu Miaoxue was utterly upset, staring at the back of Du Lai’s head and said sullenly, “But I’m so hungry; since coming to this island, I haven’t really eaten anything properly. The first day, I only had a few fruits; the second day, it was fruits with clam at, and today is the third day—I’m really hungry, I want to eat sothing.”
Du Lai lay there with his eyes closed, ignoring her.
Fu Miaoxue continued her lant, whether he was pretending to sleep or truly asleep: “I’ve never been this hungry, three days without a decent al! I used to have at least four als a day—breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner—and now I can’t even have one proper al a day. Aren’t you hungry? Her voice started to choke with sobs: “I only wanted to scare you… I didn’t know you’d be in so much pain, but even if you were hurt, you shouldn’t have thrown it away. I’m starving to death, my stomach acid is almost digesting …”
“Enough!” Du Lai, at his wit’s end, sat up, “Aren’t there still fruits?! Just eat so fruits to hold you over, okay?”
Fu Miaoxue’s eyes sparkled with tears, “But that’s just one al; what about tea and dinner?”
Du Lai really wanted to strangle her!
But he held back!
He sat up, rubbing his forehead, grabbing the banana leaf Miaoxue had just picked, pointing it outward: “Go to where you just picked the leaves and look for food.”
“The bananas aren’t ripe.” Fu Miaoxue said sadly, “I checked, the fruits are only the size of a thumb, can’t eat them.”
Du Lai, annoyed, said: “Cut down the banana stalks, bring several back, I’ll teach you how to eat them!”
Fu Miaoxue’s tears stread down: “Can you not ss with ! I’m really hungry! Banana stalks are clearly for feeding pigs, you’re trying to toy with ! How can you be so an!”
