Chapter 1237: Chapter 1237: Extra Story of the Eel 74
Su Mom: “Quick, call Manman’s bureau chief! Tell them there’s no favoritism allowed. Since she’s part of the team, there’s no thinking about taking it easy. Young people need to be challenged. Arrange overti for Manman imdiately! DUI checks, night shifts, anything goes! It has to be sothing she can’t refuse and absolutely must participate in!”
Su Dad, looking bewildered: “You were the one against overti before, and now you’re pushing for it. What’s gotten into you?”
Su Mom snapped back: “At least working overti ans she’s making a contribution from her post. It’s way better than playing housemaid and waiting on others right now!”
“What are you even talking about?” Su Dad was completely lost. “Housemaid? Waiting on others? How could Manman possibly do sothing like that?”
“Ha!” Su Mom sneered. “Why couldn’t she? With her personality, she’s the classic case of sharp-tongued but soft-hearted. Whenever soone sweet-talks her, she eagerly tags along without hesitation! Enough chatter, just make the call!”
“You really want to call?” Su Dad clearly disagreed. “At least discuss it with our daughter first. Isn’t she busy taking care of her injured friend recently?”
“What kind of friend is so helpless that they need her tending to them? Can’t they use their hands or feet, or afford to hire a nanny?” Su Mom fired back angrily. “Wasn’t she always complaining that being a traffic cop is too easy? Dreaming of joining the criminal investigation division? Now she can actually feel the pressure! Perfect chance to let her back down!”
With no choice, Su Dad sighed and muttered from his hospital bed: “Fine, I’ll call, just lower your voice a bit. My heart’s not in good shape…”
And so, unbeknownst to her, Su Man’s parents went ahead and pre-arranged so overti for her.
When she received the notice, she froze for a good while.
It had been a long ti since she last conducted DUI checks.
Only in her first month on the job had she participated a few tis. Every ti she ca ho at around one or two in the morning, her parents were heartbroken over it. At that ti, she thought it was a good arrangent—maybe her parents caring so much would make them forbid her from continuing as a traffic cop. But by the second month, her night shift rotations had almost halved.
Later, after eting Lu Yuwen, she often spent nights dating him. Initially, she worried that working night shifts would prevent her from seeing him.
But.
Surprisingly.
She hadn’t done a single night shift since!
She couldn’t figure out how the rotation schedule worked. Now, only three days after visiting Li Li, she found herself faced with overti.
However, DUI checks typically run from 10 PM to early dawn, with the highest incidence of violators during this ti. Offenders frequently attend multiple drinking sessions, leading to sustained alcohol consumption and elevated blood alcohol levels—peak hours for drunk driving cases.
If her shift started at 10, she could still visit Li Li for a while beforehand.
But when Su Man carefully reviewed her task details…
—Minhang District, Quar Road, 7 PM to 10 PM.
Su Man: “Huh?”
Quar Road in Minhang District is a key area for DUI enforcent in Shanghai City. Being sent there to assist wasn’t an issue, but the timing coincided directly with her planned visit to Li Li.
Weighing the two, work was obviously more important.
Su Man used her lunch break to text Li Li, letting him know she’d be working overti tonight and wouldn’t be able to co.
At that ti, Li Li was idly playing gas in his apartnt.
He wasn’t a big fan of gaming, but staying cooped up in the apartnt was so dull he turned to gaming for distraction. Originally, he had planned on pretending to be injured for a few days longer, hoping to deepen his relationship with Su Man. But now, on the third day, he was already at his wit’s end.
Just yesterday, he had played a motion-sensing ga, worked up a sweat, smudged his makeup while wiping his face, and had to call in a makeup artist for touch-ups. Thinking about it made him shake his head in embarrassnt.
Li Li kept gaming while silently vowing to himself: “Max… I’ll stick it out for two more days, no more!”
A vacation trip usually lasts three or four days—it was ti to go ho.
