They had just fought yesterday, so there was no way Su Man would forget that. Naturally, she didn’t give Li Li a pleasant look. She glanced at him coldly and headed straight for her garage.
Li Li stood at the gate of the courtyard, awkwardly coughed twice, and said, “Hey, give a lift. I’m in a hurry to get to the research institute.”
“Drive yourself.” Su Man pressed the button to activate the garage’s electric rolling shutter and replied irritably.
“My car’s in for repairs.” Li Li pulled at the corners of his mouth, trying to make his expression look better. His tone carried a faint hint of ingratiation. “Do a favor, will you? There’s an early eting at the institute today. If I miss it, I’ll be in big trouble. It’s rush hour now, and it’s hard to get a cab…”
Su Man furrowed her brows and hesitated for a mont. In the end, she didn’t completely shut him down and said, “Fine. Get in the car.”
Her tone was still stiff, but at least she agreed.
Li Li felt a bit of relief in his chest. He shuffled forward and waited by the courtyard gate for Su Man to pull out of the garage, then opened the passenger-side door and got in.
Inside the car, neither of them said a word.
Su Man was clearly still angry. She didn’t even glance in his direction, keeping her focus firmly on the road ahead as she drove.
Li Li tried to engage her: “Has work been busy lately?”
“It’s the sa as always,” Su Man replied coldly. “You know that.”
Li Li didn’t feel great about getting snapped at. He’d initially wanted to talk properly, but her attitude provoked him, and his words unknowingly grew sharper: “Doesn’t seem like you’re that busy. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be going out every night for dinner with so guy.”
Su Man’s expression grew noticeably darker.
It was true she went out every night, and it was true she was having dinner with a man. But hearing Li Li say it like that—why did it sound so unpleasant?
Li Li pressed further, “Who is that guy anyway? Soone your parents introduced to you?”
Su Man kept her eyes fixed on the road ahead, unwilling to explain much to him. She rely responded perfunctorily with an “Mm.”
Li Li clicked his tongue in disapproval. “Only a few days in, and he’s already got you all head over heels. Su Man, I never realized you were this desperate for n before.”
Su Man’s face instantly turned livid.
She slamd on the brakes, stopping the car abruptly, and said in a cold voice, “Go take a cab yourself!”
Li Li: “…”
Su Man glared at him fiercely. “Get out of the car!”
“Fine, you win…” Li Li inhaled deeply, pointing a finger at her. “All this for so pretty boy, huh? You think I want to ddle in your business? If it weren’t for all these years of feelings between us, I wouldn’t even care if you got conned for your money, your body, and your kidney!”
Su Man snapped angrily, “Oh, right! Every man who’s even slightly nice to is a fraud in your eyes, isn’t that it?”
“Who else do you think would genuinely want you?!” Li Li erupted. “Your dad! Your uncle! Your grandpa! Do you even know how many people are looking to cozy up to them? Don’t you have any idea? I’ve helped you fend off so many scumbags—don’t you get it?!”
Veins throbbed at Su Man’s temples from sheer anger!
She was so incensed she felt as if she might explode. Yet she couldn’t win an argunt against him no matter what she said. Frustrated, she shouted inside the car, “Then let get conned to death if that’s what I want! Fine, I’m stupid! I’m brainless! Now get out! Get out of my car!!”
“If I ever try to ddle again, I’ll be a damn pig!” Li Li, equally furious, unbuckled his seatbelt and stord out of the car.
Su Man didn’t even spare him another glance, truly leaving him behind as she drove off!
Li Li shouted angrily in the direction of the SUV, “Su Man! You better not regret this!!!”
The vehicle quickly disappeared down the road. Who knew whether Su Man inside had heard him or not.
Li Li stood on the roadside, fuming, and kicked at a nearby shrub in frustration. He had waited in front of her house early in the morning, intending to make peace, but this was how it turned out again.
Every ti… every single ti, they couldn’t get through a few sentences before erupting into a huge argunt!
Li Li felt a headache coming on.
Why couldn’t she just understand?
