The next day—
Su Man got off work and went ho, taking the quickest shower and changing into her outfit to make it to her 8 o’clock date.
She put on the dress Lu Yuwen gave her, wore the jewelry Lu Yuwen gifted her, and then slipped on the high heels Lu Yuwen bought her at the entryway.
Just as she was about to leave, the door clicked open, and Su Mom ca in.
The mother and daughter locked eyes.
Su Mom stared at her daughter in a daze, as if she didn’t recognize her. Then she sized Su Man up and down, and down and up again.
"Where are you headed like this?" Su Mom clicked her tongue in admiration. "When did you buy this new outfit? It’s so pretty."
Su Man felt a bit awkward. "Well... yesterday. Lu Yuwen bought it. He said the restaurant we’re going to tonight has a dress code."
"Oh, Xiaolu bought it, huh~" Su Mom’s tone inexplicably went up an octave.

"Normally you’re either in sportswear or your work uniform, but today’s outfit is truly stunning~" Su Mom bead, delighted. "Hurry along now, don’t let him wait too long... Actually, no, don’t rush. Safety cos first on the road. n should wait for won, it’s fine, it’s fine, let him wait~"
The completely contradictory sentences left Su Man silently dumbfounded as she looked at her mom.
"Anything else? If not, I’m leaving." She frowned and asked.
"Go on, go on~" Su Mom waved her hand. "Have a great da—uh, I an, a great ti scouting out the restaurant!"
"Got it." Su Man replied impatiently and walked out the door.
From behind, Su Mom added, "Smile more when you’re there! Stop walking around with a poker face all day, you hear ?"
"Got it, got it!"
Su Man couldn’t help but quicken her pace, eager to get far away and escape her mom’s endless nagging.
Reaching the side of the road, she glanced down at her phone. The rideshare car was almost there.
—She hadn’t planned on driving tonight. First, her car’s high chassis made getting in and out while wearing a long dress inconvenient. Second, finding parking near the restaurant was a hassle, and she didn’t want to keep Lu Yuwen waiting.
While waiting by the road for a bit, a small car drove into the villa complex.
It wasn’t her rideshare but the car of her neighbor, Li Li—she imdiately recognized it.
Su Man inexplicably tensed up...
Even though they were just childhood friends, going behind her "bamboo horse" to have dinner with another man was still a first for her. Deep down, Su Man couldn’t help but feel a vague sense of guilt, mixed with a touch of unease.
