"Affection?"

The word popped into her mind, and Su Man imdiately felt goosebumps all over!

Su Man, are you crazy?!

He’s just polite and well-mannered, what are you even thinking about? A man you’ve barely known for two days, how can you associate him with such a cheesy word like "affection"? Are you out of your mind?!

— Su Man harshly scolded herself internally.

She thought there must be sothing wrong with her.

It was probably the heat—baking her brain into delirium.

Su Man shook her head forcefully and hurried out the door.

...

Lu Yuwen stood by the window, watching her head to the house next door. After a short while, she returned, drove her SUV, and left the villa complex.

A bit of a pity.

He was just that close to seeing the climactic ending of the movie.

He walked back to the sofa, picked up the remote, and turned off the TV.

His phone suddenly rang.

He picked it up effortlessly, and Fang Zixin’s voice ca through on the other end:

"Are you ho today? I wanted to co by after work to pack up so things..."

"Uh, sorry," Lu Yuwen gently interjected, "I’m still in Shanghai, haven’t returned yet."

Fang Zixin paused for a second before saying naturally, "Then I’ll go tomorrow."

Lu Yuwen: "I won’t be back tomorrow either."

Fang Zixin: "..."

Lu Yuwen spoke leisurely, "Sorry, I’ll be staying in Shanghai for the ti being. You have my house key, so I’ll have to trouble you to grab your things yourself."

Fang Zixin was silent for a few seconds before asking, "How should I return the key to you?"

"Would it be convenient to ship it via courier?" Lu Yuwen said warmly. "Tomorrow, I’ll send you an address, and you can mail it over."

Another few seconds of silence.

She seed to hesitate but then spoke again: "Lu Yuwen, are you... deliberately avoiding ?"

Lu Yuwen was montarily stunned. "Of course not."

Fang Zixin didn’t seem convinced and continued, "About the breakup—if I hurt you, I apologize. I was too emotional back then and didn’t handle our issues well. But I always thought our breakup was amicable. Even if we couldn’t be lovers, we didn’t have to stop being friends. We’re both adults, and we shouldn’t let emotions rule us. Since you still can’t face now, I’m willing to wait. Whenever you feel you’ve moved past it, we can et and talk again."

With those words, she hung up first.

Lu Yuwen held his phone, at first speechless, then unsure whether to laugh or cry.

How should one describe this...

This was the epito of soone who hadn’t truly loved deeply. If two people had deeply loved each other and then broken up, it would undoubtedly be gut-wrenching, bloodied pain. The days afterward would feel like plunging into an abyss, so agonizing that even ntioning the other’s na would be impossible—how could they remain calm and be friends?

It seed Fang Zixin’s overseas trip had thoroughly allowed her to let go of him.

Lu Yuwen thought for a mont, then found her contact in his address book and typed out a text—

"I’m not intentionally avoiding you. Staying in Shanghai is genuinely because I have things to take care of. If it’s inconvenient for you to get your belongings, I’ll ship them to you once I return."

ssage sent successfully.

...

Su Man returned quickly. She dropped off the clothes and picked up soone, barely wasting any ti.

Lu Yuwen saw her helping a tipsy young man out of the car. The man looked youthful, wore thin-rimd glasses, and his cheeks were flushed red from drinking, though his features were fairly delicate and attractive.

He seed completely drunk, but his speech was surprisingly clear:

"Make sure to help explain to my mom... It’s really not that wants to go. They’re forcing , saying it’s a celebration and I couldn’t refuse... Just don’t ntion anything about Wu Xinghai..."

Su Man frowned and nodded: "Got it, I’m not stupid."

She was strong and had no trouble propping up Li Li, though his alcohol scent made her feel queasy—she couldn’t wait to send him back imdiately.

Lu Yuwen stepped out from his house and strolled toward her, saying casually, "Manman, do you need help?"

"Ah, no, no need." Su Man quickly replied. "It’s just a few steps away."

Li Li struggled to lift his head, suspiciously staring at the unfamiliar man before him. "You’re calling her... Manman?"
