The house had gone quiet in a way Dory hadn’t heard in days.
For an entire week, there had always been noise sowhere—tal striking tal, girls talking in the kitchen, Liam moving in and out with trays, Horg giving short instructions. Even at night, there had been movent. Now, all of that was gone. The silence wasn’t uncomfortable, but it was noticeable.
Dory sat on the edge of his bed with a fresh tunic on and his damp hair pushed back. He had taken longer than usual to wash up, making sure every trace of soot and sweat was gone. His body felt lighter, but also tired in a steady, deep way that didn’t go away imdiately.
He rested his elbows on his knees and looked at the floor for a while, letting his thoughts settle. There was no need to rush anything now. The deal had ended. The work was done. There was nothing pressing him forward for the first ti in days.
After a mont, he spoke.
"System."
The screen appeared in front of him, just like it always did.
[Na: Dorian]
[Titles: Lower Based Trader]
[System: SSS-Rank Service System]
[Current Rank: F-Rank]
[Class: Freelancer]
[Missions Completed: 1]
[Job: None]
[Skills: 12]
[Market: Open]
[Service Points: 10,000]
[Account: 3650 Coppers]
[Daily 10x: One Usage Available]
[Daily Reviews: Seven Unread]
Dory didn’t react imdiately. He read through everything slowly, his eyes moving from one line to the next, confirming each detail.
Nothing here was new to him.
The account balance was exactly what he expected. The 3,650 coppers ca from the 365 they had earned earlier and multiplied through the system. He had already done that days ago, so seeing it written there didn’t change anything for him.
The service points were the sa. He had been keeping track throughout the week. They didn’t co all at once. They ca from different things—the snack sales, the progress of the deal, the completion of tasks, and the final delivery. When he added everything together ntally, the total matched what was on the screen.
He leaned back slightly and adjusted his glasses.
It was a good amount for one week of work, but it didn’t change how he approached things.
His eyes moved down.
F-Rank.
That part stayed the sa.
He stared at it for a mont, thinking. After everything they had done, it hadn’t moved even slightly. That ant the system didn’t care about effort alone. There had to be specific conditions for rank progression.
He glanced at the missions section.
One completed.
That seed to be connected. It made more sense that rank would depend on structured tasks rather than general work. He didn’t think too deeply about it for now, but he made a note of it in his head.
His gaze shifted again.
Job: None.
That was also expected.
Even though he had worked in both cooking and talwork, he hadn’t fully committed to either. He had only used basic packages. From what he understood, that wasn’t enough to register a full job under the system.
If he wanted that, he would have to invest more service points into a specific path.
He exhaled quietly.
Not sothing he needed to decide imdiately.
He moved on to the skills.
Twelve.
That had increased over ti. He didn’t need to list them out one by one. He had already felt the difference in his movents during the week. His hands were faster. His timing was better. He wasted less effort.
But even with that, he knew the limits.
The system made things easier, but it didn’t replace actual understanding. That part had been clear while working in both the kitchen and the forge.
He leaned forward again, resting his arms on his knees.
The market was still open, but he ignored it for now. He hadn’t taken the ti to fully understand how it worked, and he didn’t want to use it without knowing what he was doing.
His attention shifted to the lower part of the screen.
Daily 10x: one usage available.
He had not used it earlier. The day had been focused on finishing the ingots and completing the deal. Now that everything was done, it was still available.
That was useful.
Then there were the daily reviews.
Seven unread.
He noticed it, but didn’t open them yet. It ant the system had been giving feedbacks for his daily jobs for the past one week. That information could be important later, but it wasn’t sothing he needed to check right now.
He dismissed the thought and leaned back slightly.
There was sothing else he needed to handle first.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the pouch Horg had given him. The weight of it was solid and familiar.
During the past week, Dory had figured out how to transfer physical money into the system account. It wasn’t sothing the system explained directly, but he had tested it during short breaks, small amounts at first, just to see what would happen. After a few tries, he understood the process clearly. As long as he focused and gave the command, the system would register the coins and move them into his account.
It had beco simple after that.
He untied the pouch and poured the coins onto the bed.
The sound of tal hitting wood was quiet but clear in the still room.
Five hundred coppers.
More than he was originally supposed to receive.
He looked at them for a mont, not thinking too much about it. Horg had already made his decision, and Dory had accepted it.
Slowly, he gathered the coins into his hand.
There was no reason to leave them unused.
"System," he said.
The screen remained active.
"Add to account."
The coins disappeared from his hand instantly.
A notification appeared.
[ 500 Coppers Added to Account]
The number updated.
[Account: 4150 Coppers]
Dory watched the change for a second, then gave a small nod.
Everything was in order.
Now there was only one step left for the day.
He didn’t hesitate.
"Use Daily 10x."
There was a short pause before the system responded.
[Daily 10x Activated]
[ 5000 Coppers]
The account updated again.
[Account: 9150 Coppers]
Dory looked at the new total without changing his expression.
This was the best use of it for now.
He dismissed the screen and leaned back on the bed, one arm resting over his eyes.
The room stayed quiet.
There was nothing left to do today.
For the first ti in a while, he allowed himself to rest without thinking about the next task imdiately.
"What could possibly go wrong?"
