Landon Lawson thought back to his conversation with Vera Yates last night and also rembered an event from five years ago.
It seed that Landon suddenly understood everything and said, deeply remorseful, "Five years ago..."
Sienna Quinn saw that he was about to blurt it out and hurriedly stopped him, saying, "About what happened five years ago, I’m sorry, I was drugged that day too. I know what it’s like to be drugged. Let’s just call it even today."
As Sienna spoke these words, every word seed to pierce her own heart. She practically gritted her teeth as she said them. After all, regarding the events from five years ago, she also felt utterly helpless.
Landon suddenly gripped Sienna’s hand tightly and said, "Sienna, I’m sorry. On that day five years ago, I thought... but now I know everything. I’m sorry. I still owe you an apology!"
Sienna was hit by his words as if pierced through the heart, her eyes welling up with tears. It was as if the grievances she endured five years ago had finally been brought to light.
Landon didn’t know how long he had been waiting for this apology. He originally thought his heart had healed and that he no longer cared about any of it. But upon hearing the words "I’m sorry," his heart quietly stirred with emotion.
Sienna didn’t know what to say, just stared fixedly with tear-filled eyes at Landon.
Landon understood Sienna’s current feelings. After being misunderstood for five years, falsely accused by the person she loved most, tornted for five years, a re apology couldn’t resolve everything. His heart was also full of guilt.
Landon never believed Vera Yates could be such a malicious woman.
He didn’t know if it was because he was too foolish or because Vera concealed it too well, but he hadn’t noticed it all these years.
Landon was filled with malice towards Vera Yates from the bottom of his heart.
Sienna, unable to hold back her tears, said, "I wanted to tell you this a long ti ago, that five years ago I was just a victim too. On that day, Vera handed a glass of water, saying it was to toast our happiness. I drank it without suspicion, and afterwards, I felt my whole body heat up, uncomfortable all over, and ended up in your room by mistake. Then..."
There were too many victims that night, and for all these years, Landon had been ticulously attentive to another woman, neglecting his own wife and son. He really didn’t know what kind of ridiculous things he had done.
"Sienna, all these years, I’ve wronged you. I won’t let the sa thing happen again. I was blinded before, but now I trust you."
A belated apology five years in the making, Sienna bit her lip tightly, finally hearing the answer she had longed for.
Sienna nodded lightly, agreeing with Landon’s words through her choked voice.
Seeing the woman’s shy deanor, Landon surprisingly felt a sense of peace at that mont.
Landon had just left Sienna’s place; after all, he still had matters to attend to. But as he left her house, sothing about his expression was off because he had just learned from Sienna that Axel Yates had been secretly aiding Miles Grant and Vera Yates all along. Sienna also told him that Axel’s parents seed to have died because of his father. When he heard this, Landon’s eyebrows furrowed tightly.
How could it be his own father?
Landon couldn’t imagine it, but Sienna’s answer was no joke.
Reaching out, touching the small raindrops falling from the sky, Landon’s eyes were clouded with a faint confusion. It seed that all the peaceful days were about to be shattered at this mont.
In the early morning, the light rain falling, Miles Grant was not in a good state. Just coming off his shift at the hospital, he heard soone call his na from behind.
"Miles Grant!"
Miles turned his head and saw the man behind him, his previously weary expression instantly freezing. How was he here?
They never t in public, yet today, what was this? Why did he co here? Didn’t he know they shouldn’t be seen? If anyone captured them together, Miles would be finished.
The man gave an insidious smile and waved at Miles, who gritted his teeth and got into the nearby parked car.
The car sped along the highway, the man sitting beside him, turning his head to look at Miles. "Haven’t you had enough of this kind of life?"
Miles looked pale, knowing exactly what he was heading for. He was ant to be a healer, a savior, and yet he’d beco an executioner, killing innocent people to satisfy greedy desires.
This kind of life had worn him out. He no longer wanted to live in such darkness.
The man laughed softly and spoke slowly, "I know you’ve had enough of this. I won’t force you anymore. Today is the last ti. After this, I won’t trouble you again."
Miles looked up sharply. Was he serious? Would he really not bother him anymore? In an instant, he was overwheld with excitent, a wide smile breaking across his face.
If he could get through today, he could live openly and honorably.
The man was smoking a cigar, smiling slowly, with a hint of malice in his eyes.
"This task is straightforward. After it’s done, we won’t have any ties. So no matter what, you have to succeed today."
Miles looked up, his eyes unusually bright, "Alright, what do you need to do today?"
"Kill that patient!"
It was a life he spoke of, but his words were devoid of emotion, as if it were no more than crushing an ant, dismissing the value of that life.
Miles’ pupils contracted. He knew that today, his hands would be stained with life, but if it ant gaining freedom, then what did it matter? It was inconsequential.
The journey was unimpeded, and they reached the suburban villa. Miles took a deep breath and entered without looking back. All he had to do was kill the man lying on the bed, and his liberation would be complete.
Three hours later, Miles erged with his face deathly pale, his hands trembling.
The man had a hint of a smile on his lips, gently patting his shoulder. "From now on, we have no ties. Are you pleased?"
Miles pressed his lips together, now solely eager to leave this place behind.
