"What’s going on here?"
He left in the morning, and Zhang Zhongquan didn’t get ho until the evening, well past dinner ti. His wife, Mai Encui, thought he’d gone to his cousin’s place, but instead saw him return with the things he’d carried out earlier, untouched.
Zhang Zhongquan was silent, his expression gloomy, as he slamd the "carefully" prepared gifts onto the table, clearly fuming.
Mai Encui approached him, and before getting close, she caught a strong whiff of smoke.
She knew that sll all too well.
"You went playing cards again?!"
Her face darkened, her voice instinctively rising.
"So what if I did? You know nothing!"
These days, with his efforts, Zhang Zhongquan had temporarily earned the "head of the household" card and was quick to bite back before angrily heading inside.
Mai Encui gritted her teeth, but thinking about the tens of thousands that ca back to them after much struggle, she decided to hold back for now.

I went to express my gratitude, and she trampled on it, said she’d throw my gesture away if I didn’t take it. Does that sound human to you?!"
Mai Encui waved the smoke away, trying to console him, "If she doesn’t want it, then so be it. At least it saves us money; we can keep it for ourselves."
"Did you win in cards today?"
Clearly, Mai Encui’s toughness was forced by life; she wasn’t unaware of maintaining marital harmony, and she subtly tried to change the subject.
"You think I went to the mahjong parlor just to play cards?"
"Then for what?"
Mai Encui was genuinely perplexed.
Zhang Zhongquan smoked with force, squeezing the cigarette butt, "I went to gather information."
Mai Encui was baffled, her confusion deepening, "Gather... what information?"
Zhang Zhongquan was silent, only the sound of inhaling and exhaling, and an atmosphere filled with smoke.
"Jiang Huazi said that other hoowners are also suing Green Land."
Even a couple can turn against each other, let alone kin.

As she spoke, sothing seed to cross her mind, her expression shifting, "Green Land won’t co after us, will they?"
"Co after us? For what?"
Zhang Zhongquan’s tone instinctively rose, seemingly fearless, but the cigarette trembling montarily between his fingers revealed his true inner reaction, "We’ve already withdrawn the lawsuit, if others sue, what’s it got to do with us? If they want soone responsible, they should go after those hoowners, go after the Fang Family!"
Mai Encui nodded, "Right, right, they won’t co after us."
"We have an agreent; no one can touch our money again."
