Chapter 643: Chapter 604: Do Not Despise the Young for Being Poor! _2

Here, all kinds of people were mixed together.

In the furthest part stood a thatched cottage in disrepair, its decrepit door hanging nearby. However, the yard was swept spotlessly clean. A little girl around seven or eight pushed the door open and, seeing her brother return, joyfully sprinted towards him. Her eyes shone like stars as she looked delightedly at the books he was holding, her voice filled with excitent, “Brother, brother, are these all for ? Are they all for ?”

Xiang Yang glanced around, then at the books in his hands, reassured that this was not a dream, but reality. He nodded vigorously, “Xiao Xing, these are all for you, bought by your brother.”

Xiang Xing was shorter than other children her age and quite thin, which made her eyes appear even larger. Although her clothes were worn, they were clean. Her joy gradually faded, and she felt uneasy, “Brother, did you spend money? Didn’t you use the money from selling scrap to buy dicine for grandma and dad? We should return these, we can’t use the money to buy books, it’s too wasteful…”

Xiang Yang’s heart ached. He wanted to pat his sister’s head but, unfortunately, his hands were full of books. Quickly stepping towards the house, he said as he walked, “Xiao Xing, your brother got a job.”

“Really, brother, you got a job? What are you going to do? Will they accept you? Didn’t they say they won’t hire you because you are too young?”

Although nowadays many children started working right after finishing junior high, Xiang Yang had never found a suitable job. What’s more, places that took in apprentice workers were becoming fewer. Off to work at several construction sites, he had been sent back after just a few days. It was frustrating; he was too skinny, malnourished, and the labor on the sites was both exhausting and demanding. If anything went wrong, both the foreman and the contractor could be implicated.

These past years, he had made a living by collecting and selling scrap and occasionally helping others with odd jobs.

With a light tone, he said, “It’s at the Tenghai Research Base Agricultural Group’s pig farm. If I do well, after three months they’ll make a regular employee, a formal position with a salary and benefits, and even dormitory accommodation and a commuter bus…”

So might hear the words ‘pig farm’ and think it’s a dirty, disorderly place—a place that deceives kids.

That’s a big misunderstanding.

The Tenghai pig farm practices scientific breeding. It’s large scale, with good conditions, and all workers are official staff of the base, affiliated with the at processing factory.

Getting a job there wasn’t easy.

Because among several units of the Agricultural Group, only the pig farm and the at processing factory had been established in recent years, and then, approved by higher-ups, they were given official employee statuses, enjoying the sa benefits as other workers at the base.

Thus, it was a place everyone aspired to.

At that mont, Xiang Xing suddenly froze; she stood dumbfounded at the door, looking incredulously at her brother. Covering her mouth, she vaguely understood that her parents were dismissed from the research base because of her.

It was such a good institution. She had once seen it from a distance with her brother and had deeply envied the children who could go in and out of there—it was a hallowed place beyond her reach.

Now her brother was telling her that he was going to work there.

Was it true or false?

Was her brother saying this just to comfort grandma and dad?

She hurriedly followed him into the house. By then, Mr. Xiang had already heard the siblings’ conversation in the courtyard. He also froze for a long ti before reacting, “Xiang Yang, what exactly happened? Co inside quickly.”

Xiang Yang placed the books on the table and hurried into his father’s room.

Standing at Mr. Xiang’s bedside, with bright eyes and flushed cheeks—signs of his excitent—he relayed everything he had experienced to his father in full detail amid Mr. Xiang’s skeptical gazes.

Mr. Xiang sat dazed by the bedhead, his expression changing, without saying a word or revealing his thoughts. Xiang Yang, initially excited and happy, slowly lowered his voice as he spoke, nervously watching his father’s expression, then in the next mont, he saw his father cry.

Then, his father turned his face away. Xiang Yang, frightened, his voice trembling, said, “Dad, is this not appropriate? If so, I… I won’t go tomorrow.”

Saying this, Xiang Yang felt a deep sadness, as if losing sothing profoundly important. He knew this might be his only chance to change his fate, and not everyone was fortunate enough to encounter the head of the base.
