Chapter 84: Chapter 84 – A Princess’s
"STOP!!"
That sharp voice echoed throughout the guild hall, shaking the hearts of everyone who heard it.
In an instant, the Guild Master and I froze. My fist was still suspended mid-air, while the man before
reluctantly lowered his arm. All eyes turned toward the source of the voice.
Velthya.
She stood at the entrance, slightly out of breath, clearly having run all the way here. Her silver hair flowed over her shoulders, and her blue eyes stared sharply at both of us. There was anger in them but also an unmistakable worry.
Neither of us said a word as Velthya stepped inside, weaving through the frozen adventurers paralyzed by the heavy atmosphere. When she stood between us, she turned to .
"Sylvia, please explain. What exactly happened? Why did you attack a guild staff mber?"
I remained silent for a few seconds, debating whether she deserved to know everything. But in the end, I nodded slightly. I opened my mouth to explain, but....
"Ugh!!!"
A faint voice ca from behind .
My eyes darted toward the sound.
The receptionist I’d restrained earlier... was attempting to crawl away quietly, heading for the corridor behind the front desk. Blood still dripped from her wound, but she was lucid enough to try escaping while everyone’s attention was diverted.
"Ugly movent," I muttered.
With a single smooth motion, a chain shot from my sleeve, piercing her calf muscle in an instant.
"AAAGH!!" She collapsed again, screaming in pain. No longer able to run.
People around us held their breath. So even looked at
like I was a heartless monster. But I didn’t care. I’d been treated like one too many tis. So fine let
fulfill their expectations.
Velthya was visibly surprised, but she didn’t scold . Instead, she looked into my eyes, maybe realizing I wouldn’t have done any of this without a strong reason.
"Now explain, Sylvia," she said, her voice softer this ti.
I took a breath. Then began to speak.
I told her how I took a mission to gather dicinal herbs in the forest. How I sensed over a dozen people hiding, waiting for
to let down my guard. How they launched a stealth attack.
"...and it was this receptionist who recomnded the mission. Her expression when she saw
return to the guild confird her involvent. I know what I saw," I said firmly.
Silence filled the air.
Velthya looked toward the receptionist. The girl said nothing, rely biting her lip and trembling from the pain.
The Guild Master, who had remained quiet until now, let out a heavy sigh.
"In that case... I apologize on behalf of the guild. We never imagined a staff mber of ours would do sothing so foolish. But still, I must ask you to release her, Sylvia."
I stared at him. "No."
That single word dropped like a stone.
"I’m taking her. I’ll interrogate her myself. I don’t trust anyone here. Not even you."
Tension spiked once again.
I saw it. Clearly. His right hand previously relaxed at his side was slowly clenching into a fist. His muscles tensed. His eyes narrowed slightly.
Reflexes of soone cornered. Soone about to fight back... or hiding sothing.
Unfortunately, only I noticed it. Everyone else, including Velthya, might’ve assud his expression was normal. But I knew.
He was involved too. Maybe not the mastermind. But at the very least... he was protecting soone who was.
"A guild is supposed to be neutral," I said quietly. "But it seems rot runs deep in yours."
The Guild Master finally stepped forward. Slowly, but with purpose. His direction was clear.
He wanted to capture .
I braced myself.
But before he could move further, I placed my hand on the injured receptionist’s shoulder who still lay bleeding and activated an ability I hadn’t used in this world for so ti.
Void Step.
In an instant...
WUSSHHT!!
We vanished.
Only black dust remained where I once stood.
The Guild Master stared blankly at the spot where I had disappeared. His jaw clenched, eyes burning with restrained fury. Many adventurers still couldn’t grasp what had just happened, but the heavy tension lingered in the room.
Velthya stepped closer to him. "You don’t need to chase her," she said softly but firmly.
"Soone like her can’t be allowed to act on her own like this," the Guild Master replied. "She killed guild mbers and abducted a staffer."
"As far as I know, she was only defending herself," Velthya shot back, her gaze sharp. "And that staff wasn’t a victim... but a perpetrator. Are you trying to protect her?"
The Guild Master ground his teeth. But he couldn’t respond.
Because he knew Velthya wasn’t just any noble. She ca from a noble Lycan clan descended from royalty, her bloodline far purer than his. Though they were both Lycans, she stood at the peak of their power not just because of her strength, but because of the sheer authority in her blood.
And while he was the Guild Master, he dared not defy her openly.
"Watch your step," Velthya said coldly. "You may have authority here, but you hold none over ."
She turned and walked out without waiting for a reply. Her eyes lingered on the spot where I had disappeared.
"...Sylvia," she whispered. "I hope you’re alright."
Elsewhere in the silence that devoured the forest.
The receptionist and I reappeared in the middle of the woods, right at the scene of the massacre I had committed earlier.
The wind rustled through the leaves, carrying the scent of blood still fresh in the air. The ground beneath my feet remained wet dark crimson. All around us, lifeless bodies lay scattered and broken. So of them still had recognizable faces, and I knew... she recognized them.
The girl looked around, and when her eyes t one of the familiar faces, her breath hitched. The paleness on her face was no longer just from pain, but from fear gnawing at her consciousness. Her eyes widened, her body trembled.
"I know them... N-No way... This... all of them..."
I slowly stepped toward her.
With a voice flat but firm, I said:
"It’s ti I interrogated you."
