Chapter 389: Chapter 385 – The Angels
The next day, the sky over Nocture which was usually thickly gray suddenly split open with blinding golden light. Ten figures erged from that rift, their six wings spread wide, pure white feathers gleaming like snow that had never been tainted. Their pale golden robes flowed like liquid sunlight, and the swords of light in each of their hands emitted rays that stabbed the eyes. Their auras were so powerful that the thin black mist around the castle was forced backward, and the black roses in the garden below swayed violently as if terrified.
Their leader, the angel with the largest pair of six wings, long silver hair billowing, ice-blue eyes blazing with arrogance raised his sword of light toward the sky. His voice bood, echoing across the entire city.
"People of Nocture! City of tainted darkness! Hand over Lucifer’s Spear right now! Hand over the girl who holds it! Or we, the Ten Angels of the Eternal Light Order, will purify this city with holy fire and destroy everything that reeks of death!"
The voice was more than sound; it carried a wave of holy pressure that made ordinary citizens in the streets fall to their knees. Several young lycanthropes howled in pain as the light aura burned their skin. Guards on the castle walls raised their crystal bows, but their hands trembled. The aura of the ten six-winged angels was too strong, too pure, too sacred for a city of death like Nocture.
But before anyone could move...
Four shadows appeared in the sky directly in front of them.
Four four-winged zombie angels, wings gray and tattered. Their feathers black and gray, shed slowly like dead leaves. Their bodies were pale grayish, eyes glowing cold red, and cracked pitch-black armor still clung to their forms. Their auras were not holy light, but cold, rotting, eternal death. They floated in front of the ten living angels, blocking their path.
The one in front, a female zombie angel with long, ragged black hair and the most damaged wings raised a massive sword made of bone and black chains. Her voice was hoarse, like wind passing through a graveyard.
"How dare you co here so arrogantly," she said, her voice echoing like a sound from the underworld. "Do you really think your light can purify what is already dead?"
The ten angels looked at the four zombie angels with open disgust. Their leader spat downward.
"You traitors who abandoned the light dare speak like that?" His voice was full of hatred. "You are betrayers! Walking corpses who tarnish the na of angels! You’d better surrender now, and we will purify you again, return you to the light, even if by force!"
The four zombie angels did not budge. They simply smiled cold, rotten smiles full of mockery.
The second one, a zombie angel with one broken wing let out a hoarse laugh. "Purify us? You can’t even purify yourselves from your own arrogance."
The tension in the sky reached its peak. The air felt heavy, like the mont before a great storm. The golden light from the ten angels clashed with the gray death aura of the four zombies. The black mist below spun faster, and the black roses in the garden began to wither as if scorched by holy light.
Then...
Six white wings appeared from below.
Sofia shot upward into the sky, her large white wings spread wide, wrapped in a blazing golden aura. Lucifer’s Spear in her hand emitted a dark golden light that contrasted sharply with the pure light of the angels. Her golden hair whipped wildly, her golden eyes burning with determination. She floated directly in front of the four zombie angels, facing the ten living angels.
"If you can, just take it."
Sofia’s voice was cold, calm, yet full of threat. Lucifer’s Spear in her hand trembled slightly, as if thirsty for blood.
The ten angels’ eyes widened. The aura of Lucifer emanating from the spear was so powerful, so evil, so opposed to their holy light that several of them stepped back half a pace in mid-air.
"That girl... she really is holding Lucifer’s Spear!" one angel shouted, voice trembling.
Their leader raised his sword of light high. "Kill her! Take the spear! Do not let that demonic power remain in human hands!"
The battle began.
The once-silent sky over Nocture turned into a heavenly battlefield. The ten six-winged angels no longer kept perfect formation; they scattered, their white wings flapping hard, creating gusts of holy wind that made the black mist below swirl wildly like a white storm.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Three golden light beams struck toward Sofia at the sa ti. The light was so bright that the air around it distorted, creating a hissing sound like hot tal touching water.
ZIIING! ZIIING! ZIIING!
Sofia flapped her white wings once FLAP! FLAP! and her body spun rapidly in the air like a golden eagle. Lucifer’s Spear moved with her, its tip blazing dark gold as it blocked the first beam.
CLANG! KRRRAAAK!
The collision between the spear and holy light produced a massive explosion. The shockwave BOOM! swept across the sky, splitting the cloudy sky for a mont. Sofia did not retreat; she charged forward instead, her wings shining even brighter.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
She dove ahead. Lucifer’s Spear beca a streak of dark gold moving too fast for the eye to follow. SLASH! The spear tip pierced straight through one angel’s light armor at the chest. CRACK! CRACK!
The armor shattered like glass, golden blood spraying into the air SPLAT! SPLAT! The angel scread loudly "AAAARGH!
