Chapter 250: Chapter 247 – Flas That Enclose the Tower of Echoes
The faint creak of wood echoed as Sylvia lowered herself once more into the large velvet-lined chair. The pale blue torches fixed along the walls of her study flickered faintly, their shadows dancing against cold stone. She pulled the thin mantle tighter over her shoulders and exhaled slowly.
Lately, vigilance has beco her very breath. Every report, every movent of the Church’s ships, every subtle tremor from the gate to the underworld each demanded her constant attention. Even the black chains drifting around her body seed heavier now, as though they too absorbed the tension that never fully eased.
"...exhausting," she murmured softly.
She lifted a small black cup from the desk. A thin wisp of steam still rose from the tea inside. She sipped slowly, letting the warmth travel down her throat, easing so of the knots coiled tight in her mind.
But only a few seconds of quiet passed before sothing shifted.
The air in the room grew warr not from fire or her own magic, but as if touched by a foreign presence. The torchlight shivered more violently, as if afraid. And then, from the empty air, a woman with long green hair appeared, slipping through the seams of reality itself.
Sylvia’s crimson pupils narrowed. "You again."
A faint smile curved across the woman’s lips. Her green hair rippled as if stirred by a breeze that wasn’t there. The aura that surrounded her wasn’t destructive power, but sothing deeper, older than the very pulse of the world itself. She was the world’s avatar, an unseen guardian who was more often burdened than offered answers.
"I don’t have much ti," her voice was gentle yet heavy, as if each word was bound by law itself. "There is a place beyond your sight. The Church has established a camp there, exploiting a breach that should have been sealed."
Sylvia leaned back, fingers tapping lightly on the side of her cup. "Where?"
"The Tower of Echoes."
Sylvia’s eyes narrowed further.
"They are using inter-dungeon teleportation circles," the avatar continued. "Such routes should be impossible for ordinary humans. Yet sohow, they’ve found a way."
Sylvia’s tone was cold. "So you only co to deliver bad news?"
The avatar gazed at her for a long mont, her stare like a blank mirror. "You must handle it. If the Church secures the Tower of Echoes, they could open a direct route into the heart of the island. I cannot aid you beyond this."
And just like that, her form dissolved. The green hair vanished, the warm aura receded, leaving the room colder than before.
Silence.
Sylvia clicked her tongue, the sound sharp against the stone walls. "Tch. She gives
missions, yet never any help. Annoying."
She raised her hand, black chains whispering through the air with her movent. Her crimson pupils glimred faintly, and without hesitation she vanished.
.....
Void Step.
In an instant her body pierced through folded space. The world spun in black shadows, then split open again depositing her far from the castle, before a towering structure on the island’s western edge.
The Tower of Echoes.
From the outside it looked abandoned. Yet Sylvia sensed otherwise. Her aura swept through the ruins, slipping past cracked walls, probing deeper. The faint heartbeats of hundreds pulsed within not zombies, not dark races, but humans. Many of them, descending floor by floor.
"The Church’s troops..." she whispered.
She could picture it clearly: soldiers descending deeper, battling the dungeon’s monsters while inscribing teleportation circles at key points. They sought to seize the tower from within, turning it into a hidden gateway for invasion.
Sylvia raised her hand. Her crimson pupils glead.
Nether Fla.
Bluish-purple fire erupted, spreading across the ground and trees surrounding the tower. It was no ordinary fire, but a death-fla that refused to die out. She moved her hand like a painter stroking a canvas. Within monts, a vast circle of fla encircled the Tower of Echoes, a sea of fire spiraling with unnatural light.
The earth blackened, the air trembled, and the fire danced without sound leaving behind only an oppressive aura that warned all to keep away.
Sylvia regarded her work with a flat expression. "Even if they descend, they won’t be able to leave. These flas die only at my command."
She stepped closer, the hem of her black gown whispering over the frozen ground, now cracked from the Nether Fla’s heat.
The eerie fire still pulsed faintly in the air as she turned back to the tower. The bluish-purple ring swirled perfectly, choking the air around the Tower of Echoes into an absolute barrier.
"I think this is enough for now," she muttered.
Her gown stirred softly, and in the next mont her body vanished into a whirl of shadows.
.....
Void Step.
Space folded, then released her back into her study. The faint aroma of warm tea still lingered, as if welcoming her return. She walked slowly to her chair and lowered herself into it with a languid motion.
"...too much running around lately."
She reached for the black kettle on the desk, pouring golden liquid into her cup. Steam curled up, painting a mist across her face. Calmly, she took a sip, letting its warmth slip down her throat and loosen her taut nerves.
Yet her thoughts were far from calm. Resting her chin against her fingers, she whispered, "It’s been a while... since I checked myself."
With a single thought, black-blue light shrouded her eyes. An illusory screen unfolded before her own status.

Sylvia stared at the illusory screen for a long while. The crimson light of her eyes shimred faintly, reflecting a status far beyond anything else on the island.
"...level sixty," she murmured. "Didn’t even notice."
She took another sip of tea, a faint smile tugging at her lips. Sylvia closed the status screen with a single wave of her hand. The black-blue light faded, leaving only the cold stone surface of the desk.
She leaned back in her chair, fingers tapping lightly against the handle of her cup. Thin steam still rose from the tea, filling the air of her study with a faint, calming fragrance. Yet behind that calm, her thoughts never stopped turning.
"My level rose quickly... but that doesn’t an the threats have lessened." Her voice was soft, almost like a whisper to herself.
