Chapter 959: Side Story 005. Walking Alone in a Dark Alley

The entity imdiately hid in the corner of the alley.

It spied on this man, everything was very strange.

Why had he brought it here, why did he confine it in this place, what exactly did he want?

The entity possessed so instincts; it knew it was no longer human, unable to coexist with humans. Even re contact would bring about a certain amount of pollution.

The call of the great being slumbering beneath the earth made everyone’s will boil, yet it had no effect on this man.

It was very curious.

And even more afraid.

Ordinary mortals, when encountering an entity like this, would inevitably panic, tremble, and run away without looking back, and so who had stepped beyond the ordinary would attempt to kill it, expel it, seal it.

But this man before it…

Unknown.

It only felt the unknown.

It couldn’t guess what the other party wanted to do, couldn’t understand what it would encounter next, nor could it know what the end would be like.

Although saying so sounded akin to a hellish joke, the desire to survive now dominated the polluted soul of this being that was already dead.

It began to try to attack the man.

A black fog with intense ntal pollution swept like a gale through the alley, lunging towards Qi Lin’s position.

Yet Qi Lin simply took out his phone to check the ti.

“It’s not ti yet.”

He said a sentence, and in an instant, the wind froze.

That mass of black fog was thus bound in place, like a frozen fra in a movie.

It was greatly shocked; it couldn’t understand.

As if a cat were toying with a mouse, Qi Lin was wantonly dictating the behavior of the entity.

For Qi Lin, this was indeed simple; this entity, according to his own-created ratings, was just a bit more formidable than the lowest level.

Could be pinched to death with two fingers.

It did have so interesting breaths on its body, making Qi Lin feel slightly familiar.

It was not yet midnight, not yet the ti required by the task, so naturally, he would not dispose of the entity.

Just waiting around like this was quite boring, so he stretched his hand into the black fog and tugged out a semi-solid ball akin to a ball of yarn.

The thing was like a hairball coughed up by a cat, its black fog forming tentacles that constantly writhed, with an incubating rainbow of black colors inside, and further in, a core as gray and silent as a death-star.

This was the entity’s main body; the black fog was all produced from here and it could also be said that destroying this place would directly eradicate the entity.

Under normal circumstances, of course, such a thing couldn’t be pulled out by soone, but this was Qi Lin, who had encountered countless entities by now, and for him, such a little display was a breeze.

After mastering this technique, Qi Lin would often speak heart-to-heart with the entities, and this ti was no exception.

Qi Lin placed it in front of him and took a deep whiff of its sll.

A nauseating stench rushed into his nostrils, filled with the odor of rotting corpses and the fernting sll from deep in the sewers; a brief sniff was enough to make one vomit out yesterday’s breakfast in its entirety.

Amidst this odor, Qi Lin saw the entire life of the deceased who beca the core of the entity.

Like watching a movie.

Qi Lin typically used this thod to understand the causes of these entities and recorded them to warn future generations.

Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

If the causes of all entities could be analyzed and recorded, perhaps similar tragedies on this world could be prevented.

That’s what Qi Lin believed.

After learning about the life of the entity, Qi Lin could only sigh at how unpredictable life was. This fellow was rely hiding in his own secretly built radio station shack broadcasting illegally when he suddenly fell ill and died on the spot.

Due to the shack’s extre concealnt, in an abandoned basent of an unfinished building, in that era, in every county town across the nation, if not hundreds, there were at least dozens of similar buildings, so his body was not discovered but remained until it completely decayed.

If there was a lesson to be learned from this, it would be that it’s best to tell your family where you are going when you leave ho and perhaps to avoid illegal broadcasting.

Thinking this, Qi Lin also confird the nas and addresses of the deceased’s family, planning to inform them later, at the very least to bury the remains.

With that thought, Qi Lin returned the entity’s core to its place and released his control over it.

The black fog imdiately dispersed, hiding in the shadows like a startled bird, trembling.

“You don’t have to worry; I’ve just learned the nas and address of your family mbers.”

Qi Lin said kindly to the air.

Hearing his words, the entity imdiately beca even more terrified.

Although it no longer possessed human sanity, it still felt fear when hearing similar words.

“I will handle them properly.”

“?”

Its black mist ford a question mark.

Qi Lin glanced at the ti, it had reached midnight.

“Ti’s up.”

He muttered to himself, moving to the middle of the dark alley.

The black mist did not attempt to attack Qi Lin, since previous interactions made it realize this human was not an entity it could confront; in his presence, it could only wait for death.

Well, it had already died once, so it was fine.

Qi Lin looked at the empty street, sowhat annoyed.

Fortunately, the system tasks did not require the strange entity to attack him before he could retaliate.

Qi Lin’s eyes glowed as he scanned the street and quickly located the strange entity’s hiding place.

“Don’t rush, it’s just a montary affair, you won’t feel any pain.”

He said, while moving to a corner of the alley.

Beneath the dim streetlight, Qi Lin’s shadow grew deeper, overshadowing the black mist.

Qi Lin reached out his hand, and the strange entity was picked up like a panicked rabbit.

“Rest in peace.”

He intoned.

In the next mont, along with the crisp sound of shattering glass, the core of the strange entity was completely crushed to dust.

The entire black mist gradually dissipated, vanishing without a trace amidst a silent wail.

At the sa ti, Qi Lin saw the fallen leaves on the ground twist into detached, icy words.

“This seems kind of interesting.”

Qi Lin stroked his chin, gazing at the text before him.

Suddenly, he felt sothing watching him from behind, a sensation he hadn’t experienced in a long ti, sending a shiver down his spine.

Turning around, Qi Lin saw at the end of the alley a foreign man dressed in a long coat, wearing a deerstalker hat, and biting on a briar root pipe.

“Eh, I thought there would be so unclean things here, but it turns out soone else got here first?”

He walked out of the shadow, and the light illuminated his face, which was scruffy, unkempt, and looked sowhat unreliable.

“Ah? Are you the Chosen by Gods of this Foreign Domain? What a coincidence.”

The man arrived in front of Qi Lin, exuding a strong aura of oppression even in Qi Lin’s view.

“Let

introduce myself, I’m a detective, called Cui Siter, but you can call

Old Cui.”

The man said, extending his hand towards Qi Lin.
