??Chapter 917: Drowning person

Chapter 917: Drowning person

Students might ask, can people drown in such shallow waters on the beach?

The answer is definitely yes.

Drowning often doesn’t depend on whether one can swim or how deep the water is, as physiological conditions or psychological factors can cause people to enter a state of extre panic. In such situations, it’s simply not possible to rationally address the problem.

So people can’t touch the bottom even when the water is only up to their chests, and there are even strong swimrs who have drowned in swimming pools, and others who have drowned in bathtubs.

Therefore, at the beach, even though the water near the shore isn’t very deep, fear of the ocean and strong tidal forces can still lead to nurous drownings.

Lu Ban imdiately stood up and looked towards Amber and Red Leaf, noticing that the two girls were also sowhat bewilderedly staring at the sea.

Sowhat relieved, he approached them.

Ahead on the beach, a man and a woman were trying to walk towards the sea. Further away, among the rising and falling waves, a small figure was bobbing in the surf.

“Help, help!”

The woman on the beach scread, turning her head to see a lifeguard who had been slacking off on the lookout tower. He was now belatedly blowing his whistle and holding a lifebuoy.

“Don’t go, everyone co back!”

The lifeguard, a well-built fellow with dark skin and dyed yellow hair, shouted in heavily accented English. He pulled the man and the woman back.

“I told her, I told her not to go too far, she didn’t listen, I warned her…”

The woman was sowhat hysterical, collapsing to her knees on the beach, breaking down.

The man beside her, though not as exaggerated, had eyes red with suppressed emotion, struggling to stay calm.

“You all, go find a policeman on the island.”

The lifeguard told the man, then jumped into the sea with the lifebuoy.

Among the tumultuous waves, his yellow hair soon disappeared from sight. Even the drowning victim, who seed to have lost consciousness, was carried away by the current towards the horizon.

Amber couldn’t help but hug Lu Ban; she was trembling, as if scared.

Red Leaf, pale-faced, also looked terrified, as no one would have expected such an incident on this sunny beach.

Lu Ban himself wasn’t a good swimr and naturally couldn’t offer any help. He could only hold Amber’s shoulders, letting the girl who buried her head in his chest feel less afraid.

Soon, the sound of sirens approached from behind. Lu Ban turned around to see Shia leading the island’s firefighters and police towards them. On the other side, an officer dressed in a Hawaiian shirt was speeding towards the drowning victim in a speedboat.

The seawater here was very clear, almost transparent to the seabed. Lu Ban watched as the lifeguard approached the woman, fitting the lifebuoy around her.

Rescuing a drowning person is an extrely dangerous task because the victim will flail around, grabbing at anything they can reach. This can lead to the rescuer also being dragged, especially in a wavy sea. Even the most skilled swimrs can be swept into the tide by a struggling victim, making it hard to escape.

Fortunately, the woman had lost consciousness, floating in the water like a log, allowing the lifeguard to successfully place the lifebuoy on her.

Lu Ban saw the speedboat nearing the two, and it seed like everything was about to be resolved.

But in the deep blue water, Lu Ban noticed sothing moving underwater.

It looked like a diver, entirely black as if wearing a black wetsuit or maybe covered in a lot of seaweed, giving a chilling sensation.

That person was right below the woman in the water. Lu Ban saw his hand appeared to be pulling on the woman.

“What is that?”

Lu Ban imdiately pointed to the location, just as Red Leaf gasped beside him.

“There’s soone!”

Red Leaf exclaid, and others on the beach too saw the dark figure, all surprised, frightened, and frantic.

Because nobody could imagine, soone would drag another person in the sea causing them to drown.

It was murder!

Either the other party realized they had been discovered or they saw the rescue team arriving, but the dark figure quickly released the drowning girl’s ankle and swiftly sank into the water, disappearing among the waves.

The speedboat reached the lifeguard and the girl, quickly pulling both of them up and heading back to the nearby port.

The drowning victim’s companions followed toward the direction of the port, and the beach quickly beca quiet.

“What was that just now?”

“Was there soone under the water?”

“Where did that person go?”

“Was that really a person?”

“What in the world was that?”

Tourists asked incredulously, everyone was extrely astonished by the scene they had just witnessed. No one who saw this bizarre scene could feel anything but their sanity unraveling, their worldview collapsing. The beach, previously filled with laughter and joy, suddenly beca much quieter, and those who remained no longer felt like playing at the seaside, starting to pack up their things.

“Let’s go check out the situation.”

Lu Ban suggested, clearly realizing that the figure was not a common diver. He was curious and wanted to see the condition of the drowning victim, and then glanced at Amber and Red Leaf.

“Maybe you two should go back to the villa first?”

“We want to co along as well.”

This ti, Amber insisted, grasping Lu Ban’s hand tightly with no intention of letting go.

“That’s fine then.”

Lu Ban let the two girls go get their things and change clothes, and after waiting for a mont, the four of them walked towards the dock.

The police’s speedboat had already docked, and the drowning victim had been carried into the port’s dical office; it seed that after ergency treatnt, they were now out of danger.

Outside the dical office, Lu Ban saw a young man and woman who appeared to be tourists from Europe. They were sowhat despondently hanging their heads in despair.

“How’s your English?”

Lu Ban asked Shia.

Since losing the translator from Silent Lands, Lu Ban truly realized the difficulty of communication and the necessity of mastering a foreign language.

Shia did not answer but went straight up and began speaking fluently with them. After a few words, the two who seed to have lost all hope started chattering animatedly.

“What are they talking about?”

Lu Ban could only understand a little and asked Amber and Red Leaf beside him.

“It seems like they are discussing sothing they encountered here.”

Amber said uncertainly.

After chatting for a while, Shia returned with a smile on her face.

“I talked to them, and they agreed to let us see the drowning victim’s companion.”

“That quickly?”

Lu Ban felt as if everyone else’s ability to negotiate was exceptionally excellent, except for his.

They waited a while longer until the doctor left the dical office, leaving Amber and Red Leaf to wait outside, then followed the man and woman into the room.

As soon as he entered, Lu Ban saw on the ankle of the drowning girl a striking black handprint!
