Chapter 780: 779. That’s _1

On the other side.

Zhou Changqing entered the ga and looked around.

It was that grassy area alright, but he didn’t see Old Eggplant anywhere.

“Has he not logged on? Or did sothing unexpected happen?”

Zhou Changqing noticed the passersby around the grassland staring and whispering to themselves, and he reflexively did the sa thing that Old Eggplant had done at the beginning.

But those passersby soon left, not sparing Zhou Changqing another glance.

He suddenly felt a bit lost.

“There’s only one car here; I should go check it out first.”

Zhou Changqing walked towards the RV, and soon, he saw a group of college students sitting there having a barbecue.

People in North Arica really like barbecues. They barbecue in their backyards for parties, on holidays, for birthdays—when in doubt, barbecue.

For an outing like this, setting up a grill near the grassland and having a barbecue was perfectly reasonable.

Noting that they all looked very young, Zhou Changqing quickly thought of the mission of this instance.

[Task Requirent: Witness the ending of the movie]

According to the task description, there should be a group of college students filming a movie in this city, so what Zhou Changqing was seeing could very well be the main character’s team.

“In that case, perhaps those passersby who kidnapped

are the enemies trying to prevent

from completing my task.”

Zhou Changqing touched the wound where he had been pierced earlier. The phantom pain seed to persist, and just the thought of that twisted, ugly monster cradled by the Saintess made his scalp tingle and his vision darken.

Dispelling the mories, Zhou Changqing approached the college students.

The first thing he noticed was Lu Ban sitting beside the grill, enjoying the food voraciously.

Well, well.

Zhou Changqing inwardly exclaid ‘well, well.’

Since Lu Ban was here, it definitely had to be the main storyline!

“Hmm? Are you a tourist?”

One of the college students barbecuing noticed Zhou Changqing and asked.

“Sort of, I’ve just arrived in this city.”

Zhou Changqing imdiately replied.

These people felt a lot more normal to him, at least they felt human, unlike those townspeople who seed like marionettes, clearly NPCs.

“I said there had to be others, you see.”

The college student called out to his companions, appearing proud that his guess had been confird.

“Have you eaten yet, want a piece of barbecue?”

He asked.

Zhou Changqing nodded eagerly.

He took the barbecued at served on a paper plate, took a careful look to confirm it was indeed at, then stuffed it in his mouth. The hot at was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, seasoned with just so salt, and it tasted very good.

He swallowed it quickly and then approached Lu Ban.

“Is this Director Lu Ban?”

Zhou Changqing asked in a low voice.

“It is indeed .”

Lu Ban answered.

He pondered for a mont, guessing Zhou Changqing must have died once before coming over, and he asked,

“Were you just captured? What did you see?”

Upon hearing Director Lu Ban’s words, Zhou Changqing instantly perked up.

It looked like this mission involved filming a movie with Lu Ban?

Why would he be joining these college students?

Zhou Changqing’s mind was filled with thousands of questions, but he believed that there must be a good reason for Director Lu Ban’s actions.

He briefly described what he had witnessed just monts ago.

“…Sothing is not right here.”

Zhou Changqing finally concluded.

“What are you guys talking about… That’s just part of the movie plot, isn’t it? Right?”

Wes, who overheard their conversation, looked a bit pale; he had narrowly escaped being captured by the townspeople and couldn’t believe it was to be used as a sacrifice.

But if this man said he was used as a sacrifice, how could he be sitting here now?

Surely he can’t be soone who has co back from the dead?

Furthermore, as this person was clearly Oriental and had started talking to Lu Ban as soon as he sat down, Wes guessed that he might be a friend or subordinate of Lu Ban.

“That’s right, that type of story is pretty good, isn’t it? A closed, backward town is conducting so sort of strange sacrificial ritual. Tourists from far away beco the victims, wantonly slaughtered.”

Lu Ban spoke as he ate his grilled at and vegetables.

“Scott, do you recall Miskatonic having such a religion?”

He then turned to look at the only “local” person.

Although Scott said he had left the city a long ti ago, he had indeed lived there once.

“No…”

Scott shook his head; his cara was set up on one side, filming their barbecue, which, according to Jas, could also be used as material.

“The Miskatonic where I lived had so churches, but not as densely packed as this, and there was nothing like these churches full of Saintess images. People only went there on Sundays, not gathered like this.”

“So, has this started only in the past few years?”

Churches, like Ro, weren’t built in a day. These strange churches with the Saintess images must have been constructed after Scott had left Miskatonic. And for a bizarre belief system to advance to the point where it could establish churches, it would have needed to spread for several years before that. Hence, Director Lu Ban deduced that this belief system, which might touch upon so indescribable entities, had probably been going on for a significant amount of ti, only unknown before now.

Perhaps the Miskatonic Film Festival itself was a special type of sacrificial ritual.

At this festival, many horror and thriller films premiered, harvesting the audience’s fear. Fear, after all, is the favored sustenance of many strange beings. If this hypothesis held true, the film festival might be an offspring of this religious belief.

As the tis evolved, the festival could harvest less and less fear. Moreover, with directors unrelated to the festival like Lu Ban releasing horror films that increased everyone’s tolerance for fear, maybe the religion in Miskatonic had to resort to more extre thods to please their deities?

Lu Ban speculated.

Since Feng Yu was trapped here too, this place must be more than just the level of strangeness related to bizarre creatures. Director Lu Ban considered that there might be entities akin to, or reaching the level of the Ancient Overlords causing trouble behind the scenes in Miskatonic.

“It’s too strange. There are no tourists at the festival, only these odd people. Shouldn’t we leave?”

Valeria with blonde hair clung to her boyfriend Jas’s hand.

“No, don’t you realize this is the perfect subject matter? A secluded city and heretical cultists, secrets unknown to others. If we can capture all this, or even find the answers, wouldn’t that be the most perfect horror film?”

However, Jas suddenly beca feverish with excitent, gesticulating wildly as he spoke with great enthusiasm.

“What are you talking about?”

Valeria frowned at her boyfriend, recalling that Jas wasn’t usually this reckless.

“Where is that church? Let’s go have a look in a bit,”

But Jas beca even more excited as he spoke, looking at Zhou Changqing, his eyes full of eagerness to try.
