Chapter 536: 535. Snowball Fight (Additional chapter for Alliance Hierarch “xiū lǐn”!)_1
Mo Guangyuan was utterly baffled.
These two leaders had been acting as if they’d changed into entirely different people lately.
Not only had they beco much more proactive at work, but they also beca significantly nicer to everyone in the departnt.
It had to be said, it was quite an improvent.
Moreover, these two leaders’ performances seed to be greatly appreciated by even higher-ups, securing a lot of benefits for the departnt.
All of this had started after watching Lu Ban’s movie.
Did the movie really have such magical power?
Mo Guangyuan rembered feeling the sa way after watching “Peaceful Days in Spring.”
At that ti, what filled Mo Guangyuan’s mind was the desire to show this hope-filled movie to people all around the world, using all sorts of ans to trick others into watching it, then continuing to repeat the behavior with them.
But these two leaders hadn’t made him watch the movie, had they?
Mo Guangyuan could understand the need to keep secrets, but so far, the two leaders hadn’t shared any critique or opinion about the movie, not even hints. If the movie truly had so entrancing magical power, this didn’t make sense.
Oh, they did sort of ntion it once.
“Dark, really damn dark.”
Mo Guangyuan repeated softly to himself.
“Dark? It’s not dark here, did you stay up too late playing gas yesterday and not get enough rest?”
Lao Li put down his dinner plate, waving his hand in front of Mo Guangyuan’s eyes.
“No, I’m talking about the directors. Don’t you think they’ve been acting a bit strange lately?”
Mo Guangyuan said while eating the stir-fried shredded potatoes on his plate.
“That’s true, I’ve felt they’ve beco much nicer recently, just like, just like… what’s it called, as if they’ve been possessed.”
Lao Li recalled for a mont, then slapped his hands together and asked mysteriously.
“Could it actually be real?”
“Don’t talk nonsense, I think it’s because of Lu Ban’s movie.”
Mo Guangyuan lowered his voice.
“Sotis, after watching a movie by Lu Ban, this happens.”
“Oh, really? That’s a thing?”
Lao Li asked curiously while eating a piece of sweet and sour ribs.
“Yes, Lao Li, you don’t usually watch these movies. Let
tell you, Lu Ban’s movies, they’re the kind that, after you watch them, you gain a new understanding of the world, your surroundings, the people around you, changing your perception,” Mo Guangyuan said earnestly.
“The way you talk about it sounds so far-fetched, like so kind of brainwashing!”
Lao Li gnawed on another rib and sipped so soup.
“It’s less about brainwashing and more about gaining new knowledge, which then changes your perception. It’s like, Lao Li, when you were a kid, you thought stars were beautiful. But if soone told you that the stars were filled with aliens wanting to invade Earth and that all the stars were enemies, your feelings would change the next ti you looked at the stars, right?”
Mo Guangyuan explained patiently.
“It’s like seeing soone very attractive at first glance, but they actually turn out to be scum, I get it. So has Lu Ban’s movie exposed so unknown social reality or taught you so profound truths?”
Lao Li felt that his extensive experience had seen it all, and Mo Guangyuan was making a big deal out of nothing.
In Lao Li’s view, what many young people found trendy, popular, and dazzling were just leftovers from their generation. Young people who are constantly shocked and awed by life’s insights really don’t see enough or think too much.
He had reviewed movies for many years and had seen all kinds of outrageous works.
Although he hadn’t seen any of Lu Ban’s movies yet, with everyone around him praising them, Lao Li was skeptical.
Even if Lu Ban’s movies had earned high box office returns and various awards, making them excellent productions that could influence the youth, Lao Li didn’t believe they were powerful enough to change worldviews or transform departnt heads and deputies to such an extent.
With that kind of ability, why would Lu Ban waste ti making movies? He could run for office and bring greatness back to Earth in no ti.
“Ah, you’ll understand once you watch it. I recomnd you start with ‘Peaceful Days in Spring,’ it swept the three major art film festivals and got rave reviews from the judges, okay? If you don’t have a streaming service mbership, I can lend you mine.”
Mo Guangyuan decided to lay out the facts before reasoning, because empty talk ant nothing.
“Sure, I’ve been wanting to watch a few TV shows, and without a mbership, I can’t see the latest episodes.”
Lao Li didn’t hesitate.
That afternoon, the two leaders were still very amiable and even invited everyone to afternoon tea. Although it was just inexpensive lemon water, for the two leaders who traditionally didn’t go in for that sort of corporate culture, it was a giant leap for mankind.
When Lao Li got ho, he really did ssage Mo Guangyuan for the account but didn’t watch Lu Ban’s movie. Instead, he watched two episodes of a recently popular TV series.
Since many streaming sites offer advanced viewing and there’s a gap of four or five episodes between premium mbers and ordinary users, Lao Li didn’t miss his chance.
After watching two episodes with great pleasure, Lao Li pondered for a bit and decided to show so respect to Mo Guangyuan by watching one of Lu Ban’s films to help him sleep.
“What’s it called again…”
Lao Li quickly found the film “Peaceful Days in Spring” recomnded by Mo Guangyuan, clicked it on, poured a cup of hot tea, and leaned back in his chair to start watching.
The next day.
Mo Guangyuan greeted his superiors when he arrived at work; both leaders were still quite amiable, like old grandfathers who had seen through the warmth and chill of human relations, which always made Mo Guangyuan’s spine shiver.
As soon as he sat down, he noticed Lao Li hadn’t arrived yet.
This guy usually arrived pretty early, yet today he was so late.
Mo Guangyuan was slightly surprised.
Just before work started, he saw Lao Li arrive belatedly, wearing an extrely solemn expression on his face.
“What’s up, overslept?”
Mo Guangyuan asked.
Lao Li didn’t answer but instead revealed a mysterious smile.
Seeing this smile, Mo Guangyuan quickly understood everything.
He extended his hand toward Lao Li, who firmly clasped Mo Guangyuan’s hand in return.
Their gazes exchanged a ssage without needing words,
“From today on, we are comrades.”
…
December, the weather becos colder.
The winter in Jiangcheng gets chillier by the day, and the rare, heavy snow that used to be seldom seen has already arrived in December.
“This winter is going to be very cold.”
Lu Ban said, looking out the window.
“Yeah, it’s freezing
to death!”
Qin Tiantian’s hands and feet were tucked inside a blanket, and even with the air conditioning on in the living room, she didn’t feel warm. She sat in front of a heater, with Laika curling up at Qin Tiantian’s feet, serving as a flesh cushion.
“It’s mainly due to the volcanic eruption. The massive amount of volcanic ash entering the atmosphere causes a decrease in sunlight, which reduces the average temperature of the atmosphere, making it colder.”
Lu Ban explained thodically.
“Your explanation isn’t going to make the room any warr!”
Qin Tiantian complained.
“I feel quite warm.”
Lu Ban checked the air conditioner, 28 degrees, and estimated the room temperature to be around ten to twenty degrees, probably because Qin Tiantian had just co in from outside.
“They say southern people can’t even walk when they see snow, but I haven’t seen you go out for a snowball fight.”
“It’s too cold, who wants to have a snowball fight!”
Qin Tiantian curled up even more.
“How about I put on a movie for you? You’ll definitely feel warm after watching it.”
Lu Ban suggested.
“Really? I feel like it’s going to make
even colder.”
Qin Tiantian was skeptical, but she let Lu Ban find a DVD anyway.
She also got up, stole two ice creams from Lu Ban’s fridge, took a bite for herself, and gave one to Laika.
“Aren’t you cold? Why are you still eating ice cream?”
Lu Ban, holding the DVD, found it strange.
“Being cold has nothing to do with eating ice cream!”
Qin Tiantian took a bite and watched Lu Ban press the play button on the remote control.
The title appeared on the screen, and it was his new movie “Doomsday.”
