??Chapter 510: 509. Great Failure_1

Chapter 510: 509. Great Failure_1

Lu Ban had never imagined what a Great Failure would look like.

Based on his previous impression of great success, Lu Ban faced those two mighty beings and, with luck, survived. Although he lost his sanity, he did not die; instead, he felt more spirited.

So, what would a Great Failure be like?

In everyday life, a Great Failure might an choking to death on water, being electrocuted to death during a bath, or even accidentally causing a bronchial problem that results in sudden death just from breathing.

If a great success is a good miracle, then a Great Failure is a bad miracle.

Lu Ban felt his entire body boiling, as the scorching heat turned his liquefying body into gas, all vegetation withered, and all vitality began to drain away completely.

The wormhole in front of him vanished completely, cutting off the connection to the Wasteland. Not only that, all the other wormholes near this area, which were established by so being to connect with Foreign Domains, were utterly destroyed. Centered on that mighty existence, everything within a range close to a stellar system was obliterated in an instant.

Planets, monsters, everything, reduced to the most basic particles, sucked into the Black Hole.

Lu Ban was no exception.

However.

Death is not such a tragic end.

In the face of the Ancient Overlord, death could even be considered rcy.

Lu Ban was originally on a path to certain death just by being here, so under the effect of a Great Failure, he would now enter a state more terrifying than death.

He felt his spirit being kneaded and crushed, as if the most delicate skin were being forcibly rubbed against the roughest sandpaper. Even if his will could endure, this direct spiritual lash still instinctively made him shiver.

Though his body was almost entirely destroyed, Lu Ban did not die.

To be precise, his spirit, consciousness, soul—whatever you want to call that which made Lu Ban Lu Ban—had rged with what remained of his body.

To Lu Ban’s surprise, even at this juncture, the System of the Silent Lands was still operating normally.

[Item Acquired: Twisted Heart of the Swarm]

“???”

Lu Ban didn’t even know where this Twisted Heart of the Swarm had co from, but after thinking about it, he guessed it must’ve happened during the bang, then whoosh mont when he and the Queen Bug were blown to smithereens and mixed together, sort of becoming one with each other.

[Mission Objective: Find the Queen Bug 1/1]

[Mission Objective: Survive 0/1]

By the way, Lu Ban also saw this explanatory text.

Looking at the “Survive” showing 0/1, he found it sowhat amusing.

Soon, Lu Ban felt the human civilization’s forebears’ insight into the laws of the universe, where mass is the cause of gravity. Therefore, as he floated in the vacuum of space, he was moving toward that huge, ugly, writhing Ancient Overlord.

If he was devoured by this creature, he would obtain eternal life but would be completely mutated into a monster, becoming part of this Indescribable mighty being, losing the qualifications of being human.

“So, does the difficulty of ‘Sublimation’ literally an a person will turn into gas?”

Lu Ban couldn’t stop himself from moving towards the Ancient Overlord, like humans can’t resist gravity.

The writhing mud-like exterior, the nurous eyes and gaping maws, the flamboyantly extending tentacles, they all lood closer, engulfing the entirety of Lu Ban’s consciousness.

Suddenly, Lu Ban heard a miraculous sound.

From a soul’s perspective, Lu Ban was already devoid of hearing, and sound to him might just be a re signal, without the ability to discern its aning, even if he could receive it.

Yet Lu Ban could hear it, a song.

It was like a piano piece, lodious and long, as if coming from ancient tis, yet also seeming so close.

It was like a warm autumn afternoon, sunlight filtering through gauzy curtains into the house, you sit on a soft sofa, idly with nothing to do, holding a book about the beauty of youth, flipping to the page where the heroine confesses to the hero, and then, the lody that rises in your ear.

Lu Ban felt a great calm in his soul.

He drifted toward that place, and soon, a small speck of light entered the range of his soul’s radiation.

It was like a shard of glass, unremarkable.

But in this space where even planets had been reduced to dust, that glass shard was the strangest anomaly.

Lu Ban touched the shard.

In an instant, his soul underwent thorough purification, as if reborn.

[Item Obtained: Du Danping’s lody Shard]

Now, even the cold, indifferent words of the System seed much more intimate to Lu Ban.

He listened to Du Danping’s lody, feeling as if he were worlds away.

Had Du Danping actually been here?

He gazed directly at the Ancient Overlord, and even left a lody here?

Could the seal here be…

Lu Ban felt it was unlikely. At most, Du Danping was a powerful Chosen by Gods, hardly soone who could influence the Ancient Overlord to such a degree.

Perhaps he passed through the Wasteland and left a lody here to suppress the awakening of the Ancient Overlord.

“Hmm?”

Lu Ban thought of sothing.

If his side quest was to find Du Danping’s lody Shard, then that ant he would have to co here to obtain one of the pieces.

And in front of the Ancient Overlord, Lu Ban’s head would surely explode.

So, was the difficulty of this side quest not a bit too high?

He embraced the lody Shard into his soul and felt much better for it.

However, his soul continued to plumt towards the Ancient Overlord without suspense, and the murmurs in his ears grew denser and louder, tornting his consciousness.

“Fallen…”

“Slaughter…”

“Hungry…”

“Indulge, enjoy, celebrate…”

“Sleep…”

Words burrowed into Lu Ban’s head, causing his soul to expand several folds, filled to the brim with Pollution, transforming it into the visage of the Ancient Overlord.

At that mont.

A lody from distant stars of a Foreign Domain resonated with the lody Shard Lu Ban had obtained.

Though completely different—one representing humanity’s tenderest emotions, the other representing the universe’s coldest Rules—

the amalgamation of the two cald Lu Ban’s spirit.

The next mont, Lu Ban’s soul was pulled by sothing, and in an instant, he was pulled away from the side of that bound Divine Being, transcending light, entering a state of high-speed movent.

He saw surreal visions, a streak of erald light shining as it shot across the sky, crimson stars massive and silent, the Sea of Mud and rivers of lava spreading.

He seed to see great palaces towering over nurous galaxies, with the Milky Way but a tile of those grand palaces.

Within those palaces, an invisible voice played a flute, and lodies echoed through the cosmos.

Higher still…

Lu Ban lost consciousness.
