Chapter 494: 493. Industrial Park_1
“How is it, because I haven’t perford in so long, I’m a bit nervous.”
The ecological park had restored its lighting, and Lin ca before the four people, her expression seemingly shy, an emotion that was hard to display on a robot.
“Not bad at all.”
Lu Ban comnted.
“What’s wrong with you all?”
Lin looked at the other three, seeing that their expressions were all a bit dismal—the splendid history and the bleak present ford a stark contrast, stirring an infinite number of thoughts.
Having witnessed such a powerful past destroyed by calamity, how could the people now resist the swarms of insects?
Despair and a sense of powerlessness enveloped them.
“If the guests are feeling unwell, I can provide so dical equipnt. I’m sorry, our dical robots have already stopped working.”
Lin said helplessly.
“Right, is there an industrial park around here, the place where the people of Future City used to work?”
Lu Ban hastily inquired.
“The industrial park is located seven kiloters to the north of here, but regrettably, we’ve also lost contact with it. If an attempt to reach out to them were made, we could dispatch a vehicle to pick you up…”
Lin said, tilting her head, making Lu Ban suspect that her action was actually an attempt to communicate.
But without a doubt, in this destroyed world, there was nothing but static in the communications.
“The power supply is there as well, right?”
Lu Ban interrupted Lin’s attempt to communicate.
“Correct.”
The robot girl nodded and then said with so difficulty.
“It’s just that we cannot leave Future City, so we haven’t attempted to check the situation there. Maybe the residents have all stayed there.”
“Do you have any information about it, whether digital or on paper?”
Lu Ban, upon seeing Lin nod in confusion, continued to speak.
“Help us find it. We will go there tomorrow to see if we can restore the power.”
Upon hearing Lu Ban’s words, Lin showed what might be a robot’s surprised expression.
Then she nodded vigorously.
“Alright!”
…
There wasn’t much information left in Future City. Since it was a research industrial park, it surely involved many secrets.
Not to speak of the conditions in the laboratories, but even the layout of the power system was missing; there was only a rough schematic of the building cluster.
Perhaps they did so to prevent sothing from finding and destroying the power facilities.
Thinking this, Lu Ban grew curious about how the previous civilization in Wasteland t its end.
Most of the native inhabitants Lu Ban had spoken to attributed it to the rampant spread of the Crystal disease, and indeed, patients with Crystal disease did not have long lifespans.
But was that really the case?
The constrained quality of life, this ecological park, the neighboring industrial park, the research into space, all hinted at a greater crisis that had befallen the world. If humans couldn’t find a way to save themselves within a certain ti fra, they would be destroyed.
In the end, they hadn’t found it.
At night, the three Wasteland natives chose to sleep in the ecological park.
For them, such an environnt was precious.
Lu Ban wasn’t asleep. He went to a bench ant for resting and gazed at the starry sky.
Lin ca to his side. This robot girl appeared to rest here, and whatever the case, as the caretaker here, her power supply would surely be the last to deplete. This ant that in the future, she would definitely be the last robot to lose consciousness.
She would see off all her companions and then fall into a long and eternal sleep of loneliness.
“Guest, are you unable to sleep? I am equipped with three thousand seven hundred and twenty-two bedti stories and lullabies. If you need, I can tell them to you.”
Lin spoke as if she was already prepared to soothe a child.
“No need, I’m used to staying up late,”
Lu Ban replied.
“May I sit down?”
Lin sat down at the other end of the bench after receiving Lu Ban’s consent.
Her bare feet rhythmically and lightly tapped on the synthetic grass.
“Actually, I’m very happy that you could co,”
Lin said softly, gazing at the starry sky.
“During this ti, all the robots in Future City had 2.14748473647 billion discussions, and all of them concluded that humans would never return except for .”
“They believed that humans had successfully left the planet and gone to a new ho, but we were originally created to serve humans and didn’t know how to act without them.”
“But I believed that humans would definitely co back.”
“Seeing you proved that I was right.”
Hearing Lin’s words, Lu Ban suddenly wondered if the robots of this world had already awakened a certain sense of self-awareness?
“Actually, you don’t necessarily have to follow humans; robots can maintain themselves well on their own,”
he suggested.
“No, it’s already written in our program. In our core frawork, or in human terms, our ‘soul,’ it’s pledged that we exist for humans,”
Lin was firm; this seemingly fragile robotic girl only showed her steely resolve when it ca to such matters.
“Then you can co with us when the ti cos; we are human after all,”
Lu Ban continued, realizing there would be no way to bring so many robots back to his world with Foreign Domain. It would, however, be possible to have these robots follow Shuangxin back to Utopia, where perhaps the Saint could find a way for the robots to continue operating.
“This… I need to consult the manual; this is not covered in it.”
Lin was surprised, confused, and at a loss.
“Think it over, and give us your answer when we return tomorrow,”
Lu Ban gently touched her head.
Artificial hair felt so real.
He reflected inwardly.
…
Early in the morning, before dawn, the group of four left the ecological garden, ard with a map and riding on cal bugs, heading towards the industrial park.
Lu Ban saw Lin standing at the entrance of the ecological garden, bending over to see them off until they disappeared from sight, yet she still hadn’t stood up.
Seven kiloters wasn’t considered far.
At noon, when the sun was most scorching, Lu Ban saw sothing unusual outside of the desert.
“What is this?”
Shuangxin carefully observed, slightly shielding her eyes from the sunlight.
It was a tall and massive frawork which should have been holding sothing, but it was empty.
Beside the structure, buildings stood densely packed, each of different shapes.
Spreading out from there was a cluster of buildings already in disrepair.
This must be the industrial park.
Lu Ban took a careful look but found no trace of the swarm.
“Shall we go in to explore?”
Shuangxin asked uncertainly.
“Sa old rules, Shuangxin and I will go,”
Lu Ban said, unwilling to take any risks, he decided to lead the way.
