Chapter 408: 407. No Survivors_1

In the police station.

Three individuals sifted through files, examining the case records of the incident at Happy Ho Apartnts.

However, when it ca to cases involving the Gang, the police records were always murky.

It was unclear whether they were afraid to investigate thoroughly, or if they had taken money to deliberately obfuscate the details.

“…it’s here.”

Fortunately, Shia had a spell that allowed for Quantum Fluctuation Reading, which caused the files to grow and read themselves; swiftly, she found the relevant information.

[Liz, fifteen years old, cause of death ****, unclaid, body incinerated]

“?”

Lu Ban was stunned.

The cause of death had been redacted.

He looked further and saw that this young girl had no photograph, nor was there an autopsy report of the body, which was only ntioned to have been cremated at the funeral ho they initially visited, with the ashes’ whereabouts unknown.

The life of a living person had ended just like that, with the cause of death concealed and no trace of the body’s final disposition, making one feel the world was truly in disarray.

“There isn’t much on record for this case.”

Shia pointed to the section below.

[Seventeen people died and six were injured in a lee between two ard violent groups at Happy Ho Apartnts, with two criminals arrested. After ****** negotiations, they were bailed out of jail.]

The large-scale conflict of the Gang resulted in seventeen deaths, and in the end, only two scapegoats were captured and later released. This revealed the level of chaos in law enforcent in Abandoned Capital.

Cui Siter checked the trial records and the list of casualties.

Apart from five Gang mbers, the others were all common civilians, and among the dead at Happy Ho Apartnts were three individuals, including Liz from Apartnt 404.

And Tuck from Apartnt 405.

Regarding Tuck, Cui Siter found the police records to be much more detailed.

[Tuck, leader of the violent Blade Gang, died in a lee following a dispute with another gang in October of the 25th year.]

Besides Tuck, the other four Gang mbers were also from the Blade Gang. It seed that they had gathered here and were wiped out by the Catania Family in one fell swoop.

Such cases were not uncommon. In recent years, the Catania Family had been expanding, coming into conflict with many smaller gangs. So had submitted and beco vassals of the Catania Family, while others, like the Blade Gang, had been directly eliminated by the Catania Family and completely erased from the city.

It appeared that Liz, who lived in this place, got caught up in the Gang conflict and died. Lu Ban looked at the information of the other victims; the cause of death for the majority had also been redacted.

While according to Stone, the Catania Family wanted to launder its image to join the upper echelons of society, its violent nature as a Gang was inevitable during its expansion and consolidation. When dealing with smaller gangs and violent groups, giving them an offer they couldn’t refuse was evidently much simpler than the hassle of negotiating.

“But what does this have to do with Doctor Howes’s case?”

Shia didn’t quite understand.

If Cui Siter’s dream was about Flora, she was friends with Liz and lived together with her. Previously ill, Flora had recovered with the dicine received from Doctor Howes. They were involved in the Gang’s firefight a year ago, where Liz died in an accident, and Flora began to receive Doctor Howes’s dicine directly. Up to this point, everything made sense.

But why were these two individuals killed?

“Because they saw the Gang’s faces, or knew so secret of the Gang, so they were silenced?”

Lu Ban speculated casually.

“But if the Gang could control police records, there was no reason for them not to be aware of these two persons’ existence; they should’ve silenced them long ago.”

Cui Siter shook his head. In Abandoned Capital, if a Gang wanted to keep a secret, erasing it was the solution; they didn’t need to worry too much about consequences.

“Moreover, Doctor Howes had connections with Lady Martina and was linked to the Catania Family. Adding on that mbers of the Catania Family also died…”

He reached this point, then flipped through the dossier again, looking at the list of defendants.

Cui Siter soon found a familiar na, Maggie, which belonged to a gangster who had died because of the Glass Flower.

He had been involved in the operation to annihilate the Blade Gang, but was later made the scapegoat and eventually released on bail without punishnt.

“Connections originally from here…”

Cui Siter felt the threads in his mind were gradually being sorted out.

The deaths of these three people were indeed related to the incident.

What kind of murderer would harbor such hatred to kill these three?

Cui Siter believed that finding a motive would quickly lead to deducing the murderer.

Because these cases clearly had a strong purpose behind them.

Once the motive was revealed, it could definitively point to the murderer.

“It seems I’ll have to ask the Catania Family a few good questions tonight,” he thought.

He rembered his invitation to their banquet.

Evening.

Abandoned Capital District.

This place was completely different from the outskirts.

The streets were clean, buildings were lined up neatly, and windows shone much brighter.

Vehicles of all kinds moved endlessly on the streets, with people coming and going.

The colorful signs stood between the buildings, making the roads vibrant with colors, and the glare of streetlights overshadowed the stars and moonlight.

The music from gramophones filled the area from every shop on the street, a joyful noise as if to cover up all sins.

Most people on the streets wore decent clothes, which were well-tailored; so were hand-sewn, fitting the body perfectly. The cost of just one button could sustain a week’s al for those in the slums.

Lu Ban was visiting such an affluent district for the first ti. The residences in Ancient Capital were already luxurious, but now he could feel that Ancient Capital was just for the ordinary wealthy, whereas those living here were truly the upper crust of Abandoned Capital.

Children growing up here would never know what pig feed tasted like, wouldn’t have to sell their bodies for money, nor would they smile brightly over bread sullied with mud or soone else’s leftover sandwich.

Lu Ban was also uncomfortable. He wore a cheap suit that was rented and didn’t fit well because there were not many in Abandoned Capital of his height, making the clothing feel sowhat cramped.

Cui Siter, too, had taken out his finest attire from storage, being extrely careful not to dirty it.

As for Shia, she had rented an erald-colored evening gown. For soone like Shia, who had grown up free, it was obviously quite uncomfortable to wear a waist-constricted dress and high heels.

“Can I take off my shoes, at least before the banquet starts?”

Shia rubbed her fair feet, as the high heels tortured her heels more cruelly than the most troubleso magic problems. Unable to bear it, she took off the shoes and stood barefoot in the car, feeling quite relieved.

“Make sure to maintain your image; I don’t want you getting thrown out,” Cui Siter said as he adjusted his tie. The car had just arrived at the hotel entrance, and he got out first, followed by Lu Ban, and lastly, Shia, who reluctantly put on her high heels with an unhappy face.

They were about to attend the charity banquet hosted by the Catania Family.
