Chapter 393: 392. Isn’t this a coincidence_1
Upon seeing an acquaintance, Lu Ban imdiately showed a brilliant smile.
“Hey, Old Cui.”
Lu Ban greeted.
For a mont, everyone in the room turned their attention to Cui Siter.
The private detective, who seed to wear a long trench coat, a deerstalker hat, and smoke a briar pipe year-round in an unchanging fashion, was taken aback but quickly adopted a serious deanor.
“Quick, grab this man.”
Several employees of the funeral ho imdiately seized Lu Ban’s arms.
Lu Ban saw Cui Siter wink at him, and he imdiately understood the other’s intent.
“Heh heh heh, you’ll certainly rember this day because you almost caught the great Captain Jack Sparrow!”
Lu Ban pretended to laugh deeply, then imdiately used a Speech Bullet on himself.
Bang——
Instantly, a large hole appeared in the wall, and Lu Ban had rushed out of the house, disappearing into the smoke and dust in a few quick strides.
“?”
Cui Siter was montarily unsure of how to explain, but seeing everyone staring at him, he swallowed and cleared his throat.
“The body must still be here, let’s search for it.”
He was relieved that the body of the old gentleman who had died of lung disease was lying in the funeral ho’s autopsy room, and when the family found it, several staff were just about to apply makeup to the old man.
After leaving the funeral ho, Cui Siter randomly picked an outdoor seat at a tea house and ordered a cup of black tea.
Soon, a man sat down across from Cui Siter.
“I’ll have a glass of milk, if you have any.”
Lu Ban said to the waiter, and the two n exchanged glances.
“…My intention just now was for you to pretend to be captured so that I could interrogate you, and then the two of us could leave safely!”
Cui Siter said, suppressing the dissatisfaction in his heart.
“I’m shocked, I thought you ant for
to act like a notorious grave robber who accidentally exposed himself before being caught by a famous detective like you.”
Lu Ban said, surprised.
“You added too many details.”
Cui Siter took a sip of black tea.
“So, where is the other person?”
Lu Ban asked, knowing clearly that Shia was also part of the mission.
“She should be… about to arrive.”
Cui Siter glanced at the ti inside the shop.
At that mont, Lu Ban saw Shia dressed in heavy armor standing across the street, seemingly a bit angry, waiting for the vehicles to pass before heading this way.
“Long ti no see.”
Lu Ban just said hello when the glass of milk that had just been placed in front of him by the waiter was pushed by so invisible force, almost falling off the table.
“Don’t be naughty.”
Lu Ban warned, picking up the milk.
“?”
Cui Siter looked at Lu Ban as if he was speaking to so invisible entity, and a question mark popped up above his head again.
“The funeral ho is in chaos, and our request was postponed until the afternoon.”
Shia sat down and said angrily.
“What are you doing at the funeral ho?”
Lu Ban asked curiously.
“What were you doing at the funeral ho?”
Cui Siter asked back, annoyed.
“I don’t know, I was in a coffin as soon as I arrived.”
Lu Ban claid innocence.
“Huh?”
Once again, a question mark appeared over Cui Siter’s head.
“Shia arrived last night; we thought you had already co and searched for a long ti. Unexpectedly, you were actually in the coffin.”
“So, I might have also arrived last night, just sleeping in the coffin without realizing it?”
The flow of ti in the Silent Lands greatly differs, causing Lu Ban to feel that what were seconds in his perception might have been half a day in Abandoned Capital.
“Anyhow, we’ll take a look after checking the body at the funeral ho this afternoon.”
Cui Siter took his pipe, lit the tobacco, and took a puff.
“The body?”
Lu Ban felt there might be a ti difference between himself and the other two.
“Doctor’s body, Doctor Howes.”
Cui Siter explained.
“We’re going to the funeral ho to investigate his body, hoping to find so clues.”
“I see.”
Lu Ban nodded and then saw Shia biting into a cookie, her expression sowhat soothed.
Yet, the cookies on the plate, as if stolen by so small animal, suddenly decreased by one while Shia wasn’t paying attention.
“Speaking of which, does Shia have any spell that can make the dead speak, like reading their mories or summoning spirits or sothing?”
Lu Ban asked again.
Although logically this was a deductive task, the Silent Lands never said cheating was off the table. If Shia could summon spirits directly like those necromancers, causing the dead to speak, many problems would be easily resolved.
“Spells aren’t so convenient, haven’t I told you that before?”
While answering, Shia reached for the last cookie, only to find the plate was now empty, leaving her with a puzzled expression.
“What about the other two bodies?”
Lu Ban asked again.
“The other two?”
Cui Siter wasn’t quite sure but quickly understood after looking at Lu Ban.
“Did you use Madman’s Knowledge again?”
“Right, there should be a gang mber and a call girl involved in this serial killing case.”
Lu Ban stated succinctly.
“But there hasn’t been a similar case recently… I might have to ask the police chief.”
Cui Siter rubbed his chin in thought.
“Before that, let
briefly tell you what information we have so far.”
He took out his notebook and flipped to a certain page.
“The deceased is Howes, a doctor. He ran a clinic in Grey Alley, serving clients from the civilian areas as well as undertaking so work from the slums, treating minor ailnts for the poor for free. He had a good reputation in the neighborhood and was well-connected, influential among both the underworld and law-abiding citizens.”
“He was found dead in his clinic bed two days ago, his death quite peculiar. The police opened an investigation and asked for my participation. You know, I’m a private detective, and now I have a fairly good reputation in Abandoned Capital.”
He spoke with a hint of pride.
“Oh.”
Lu Ban nodded, not picking up on Cui Siter’s brag.
“… Because Doctor Howes had a wide social circle, including Lady Martina of the Catania Family, she privately gave
a commission to look into a specific dical record of Doctor Howes. If I’m not wrong, that might be related to records concerning her lover.”
Cui Siter whispered.
“So you’re still investigating affairs.”
Lu Ban inquired subconsciously.
“… I had actually stopped taking such commissions, but Lady Martina offered too much.”
Cui Siter justified.
“I understand, if a roast chicken appeared in front of
right now, I’d do anything.”
Shia nodded in agreent.
“I’d like so roast chicken too.”
Lu Ban chid in.
Cui Siter looked at his two companions and suddenly felt that half the difficulty of this [tamorphosis] task might stem from their misconceptions.
