Chapter 27: 027. Stunning Views Ahead (Extra Chapter, Vote Please!)_1
Night, eight o’clock.
The strear River Oblivion, also known as Qin Tiantian, had just turned off the ga.
“It’s eight o’clock, ti to slack off.”
She said to the microphone, despite the live chat being filled with comnts like “It’s only eight,” “Crap,” and “Please stop slacking off,” Qin Tiantian was unmoved.
In her own words, “Health-conscious strears go offline at eight, it’s blissful.”
Actually, slacking off was secondary; the main reason was that Qin Tiantian was afraid of going to bed late.
Ever since watching Lu Ban’s videos, if Qin Tiantian sat in front of the computer without sleeping in the middle of the night, her mind would race with thoughts that soone was behind the curtain over there, or the cabinet on this side moved, and she was done playing.
It made her unable to sleep at night and unable to wake up during the day, not even white plus black pills were helpful.
So now, Qin Tiantian went to bed early every night. As long as she fell asleep, she wouldn’t feel scared!
She was about to end the stream when a WeChat ssage suddenly popped up on her computer.
Driven by curiosity, she clicked it and imdiately regretted it.
It was from Lu Ban.
She added Lu Ban on WeChat but hadn’t talked to him since then. Lu Ban probably didn’t check Monts, and the two hadn’t even exchanged likes.
“What does he want with
at this ti?”
Qin Tiantian muttered under her breath, and imdiately her mind was bursting with countless imaginations.
Could it be that he found those unclean things and is now coming to deal with them?
Or did he discover there’s a problem with my house?
Wait, did my cabinet just move?
The more she thought about it, the more scared she got. Qin Tiantian shuddered and looked at the ssage sent from Lu Ban.
Unmoving: Could you take a look at my latest video during your stream?
“?”
Qin Tiantian was taken aback.
Is that it?
Wait a second, you released a video?
Qin Tiantian had also followed Lu Ban since that day, but she was the type to always be promoting others, with hundreds in her follow list. The daily flurry of updates ant she hadn’t spotted a single one of Lu Ban’s videos.
River Oblivion: But I’ve already stopped streaming, I promise I will next ti, definitely next ti.
How could she dare to watch Lu Ban’s videos in the dead of night?
Qin Tiantian was ready to end the stream at lightning speed, but another ssage popped up on WeChat.
Unmoving: But it looks like you’re still streaming on my end?
“Hiss—”
What’s with this feeling, as if being a student furtively playing the computer while the parents are out for a walk, and then shutting down before they returned, only to be busted by a mother who noticed the unusual warmth of the CPU case?
Qin Tiantian intended to refuse, but after thinking it over, many people had stread themselves watching Lu Ban’s video last ti, and the program effect was great, attracting a lot of new followers.
If she could be the first to stream Lu Ban’s new video, could she also reap the benefits?
River Oblivion: Alright, I’ll watch it now.
She sent a reply, and then sent another ssage as an afterthought.
River Oblivion: If anything goes wrong, you’ll have to take responsibility.
It was only after sending that she realized the grammar seed off, and Qin Tiantian was about to retract and edit the ssage when Lu Ban had already replied.
Unmoving: No problem.
“…what else can I do, let’s watch it.”
Qin Tiantian then addressed her viewers.
“I’m going to watch a video before I end the stream, it’s sent by a friend of mine.”
She quickly found her follow list and scrolled to Lu Ban’s new video.
“[No Entry for the Uninitiated] Forbidden Exploration 01: Jiangcheng Grand Theatre”
“Tsk.”
The mont Qin Tiantian saw the title of the video, she felt a pang of regret.
This is 100% a supernatural horror video!
The Jiangcheng Grand Theatre? You really can’t stop courting death at ho, can you? Now you’re even bringing calamity upon others?
Plus, the video’s thumbnail is a few of those mannequins used to showcase clothes, tattered and torn, with eyes drawn on their originally featureless faces like graffiti.
Despite the crude drawing, those eyes seed to possess a life of their own, staring at Qin Tiantian outside the fra, paired with that classic horror movie green filter, giving an unsettling feeling.
Just looking at this video cover, Qin Tiantian felt her courage draining away.
But the audience didn’t care about that, they went crazy egging on the mont they saw sothing amusing.
[Damn, this video looks good, I’m gonna check it out too]
[Chuanbao, don’t be afraid, mommy is here with you]
[The Jiangcheng Grand Theatre, is it fild in Jiangcheng?]
[Are we going to hear Chuanbao’s supre screams today?]
[Just looking at this video, I can tell it’s thrilling. River Oblivion can forget about sleeping tonight]
These viewers are like little boys in elentary school who, too shy to openly express their crush on a girl, would rather resort to all sorts of thods to tease her, trying to get her attention without admitting their feelings, they love torturing the hosts the most.
Qin Tiantian swallowed her saliva, sat up straight a little, and clicked on the video.
At the beginning of the video, it showed Lu Ban taking the bus to the suburbs. On the empty bus, Lu Ban’s comntary could be heard.
“Today, we’ll be exploring the Jiangcheng Grand Theatre, which is located on the outskirts of Jiangcheng City. It was abandoned over twenty years ago due to a fire. It’s been sold a few tis since then and now belongs to Jiangcheng Industries, but has not been developed and remains in a state of disuse…”
Lu Ban narrated the situation of the Jiangcheng Grand Theatre while filming the desolate scenes outside, this segnt was very brief, taking less than two minutes to explain everything. And those edited-in reports of the fire made one’s heart skip a beat.
Just as Qin Tiantian’s curiosity was piqued and she thought about searching for more information on the fire incident at the Jiangcheng Grand Theatre, the scene shifted.
In the afterglow of the setting sun, a decrepit and decaying theatre appeared onscreen. Although there was no deliberate composition or enhancent, the desolate scene made a deep impression. It was as if this was what survivors of a destroyed human civilization would witness.
“A breathtaking view lies ahead.”
Lu Ban added a comnt.
Qin Tiantian felt an even stronger sense of desolation seeing Lu Ban approach the abandoned theatre.
Broken signs, damaged rooftops, walls covered in moss, and desolate corners held a sense of primal unknown.
“We’re about to go in and take a look around, then set up so caras in advance.”
The video then switched to Lu Ban’s first-person perspective, as he picked up a flashlight and a crowbar, illuminating the dark entrance hall.
The fra suddenly darkened, and the quality of the image deteriorated quite a bit, with only the circle of light from the flashlight providing a glimpse of vision.
Barrages of comnts increased along with the online viewers.
[This atmosphere is 100% problematic!]
[I just checked, Jiangcheng Grand Theatre is indeed quite eerie and unclean!]
[These types of videos are all staged, right? How can there be ghosts in this world.]
[Think about it, they made a video and uploaded it, which ans the person must be fine!]
[Scared, guys, let’s put the chat on protective mode]
Qin Tiantian had no ti to look at the comnts. She curled up her slender legs, shrinking into her chair, hugging her shoulders, her eyes nearly shut, as if she was ready to close them at any mont to trick herself.
She saw the light from the flashlight sweep across the deserted corridor; from Lu Ban’s first-person perspective, they arrived at a dressing room. The flashlight shone on a mirror directly across the door. The cara moved closer, and startlingly, it revealed dark-yellow grease oozing out from the edges of the mirror.
The cara seed startled as well, trembling slightly as it backed away.
Then, Qin Tiantian saw the reflection of the pale-faced Lu Ban bathed in the light of the flashlight, casting a bizarre and terrifying smile at her outside of the cara’s view.
Qin Tiantian instinctively held her breath.
*
I’ll explain sothing to everyone.
The structure of this book is derived from the exploration and therapeutic ga elents of the Great Air-Conditioner Adventure House. I’ve pondered over it myself, aning a combination of instance exploration and reality entertainnt. The reality entertainnt is actually related to the instances since the book’s title hints at it, but I won’t go into detail right now.
So, there will be instances where the protagonist’s adventures are recounted in movies or videos, and so may feel that these repeat content and are just filler. However, I believe that this narrative is similar to watching a horror movie and laughing at soone else’s fear. When the readers are thrilled by the instances in the book, they can also enjoy seeing the characters in the book react to the videos. In my view, that is a central thrill of entertainnt literature. Of course, as instances lengthen in the future, I probably won’t recap them in the text, at most I will ntion any changes made.
As for descriptive passages that set the background, they exist to add details. Everyone gets to read the free chapters for free, so it’s not like they should wait for the paid chapters to see this groundwork laid out.
Truth be told, I am quite a coward myself and have always been afraid to watch horror or thriller films since childhood. Not to ntion reading horror stories or watching horror videos, hence, I’m not quite sure how to write sothing genuinely terrifying. I’m just glad if it makes everyone happy.
For instance, the first task is actually an experience I often have. Sotis when I’m asleep, I dream I’m sleeping in the classroom. My deskmate beside
tries to wake
up but fails, and I try to move my body but can’t, then I can only watch as the teacher gets closer and closer. So, I slightly modified this experience.
And for the second story, well… hold on, soone’s knocking on the floor above again. I’ll go have a look. I’ll talk more in the author’s comnts so other ti!
