Chapter 25: 025. Please call my na!_1
“It’s fine, not a big problem.”
Having read the doctor’s diagnosis for himself, Lu Ban felt much better.
He clearly understood that these diagnoses of delusional disorder, schizophrenia, and persecutory delusions were rely the result of the doctors hearing his descriptions of Silent Lands.
Ordinary people would consider Lu Ban ntally ill after hearing such stories, let alone a psychologist.
But apart from these, Lu Ban didn’t exhibit any psychological issues.
“Although the doctor said I might have ntal problems, that’s precisely why I don’t,” Lu Ban thought, finding much comfort in this conclusion.
It seed the System’s standards for Sanity were different; even if rationality fell to zero, a person could still live normally.
Moreover, if Lu Ban truly had lost his sanity, how could his logical, polite behavior be explained?
He retrieved his backpack and crowbar and returned to the warmth of his ho.
First, Lu Ban took off his clothes, grabbed so fresh ones, and stepped into the bathroom.
Experiences of the previous night had taken a trendous toll on both his body and soul, so there was no rush to start the next stage of the [Career Developnt Task]. He just wanted to take a nice hot bath and sleep in.
Turning on the shower, the warm water cascaded down from his head. Lu Ban squeezed out shampoo and vigorously scrubbed his head.
“Towel…”
It was only when his head was covered in suds that he reached out to the rack for a towel.
However, his hand trembled, and before he could touch the towel, a soft piece of cloth was handed to him.
“Thank you.”
Lu Ban responded, rinsing the shampoo from his hair and wiping his face with the towel.
After wiping his face, he hung the towel back in place.
Only then did he realize sothing.
“Who handed
the towel just now?”
Lu Ban looked at the bathroom door that was firmly closed.
There was a small gap at the bottom of the wooden door.
The light from the living room seeped through the gap, casting tiny reflections on the wet floor of the bathroom.
Suddenly, sothing seed to block the light coming through the gap.
As if… soone was standing right there.
Lu Ban stared at the foggy glass covered in plastic film, feeling as though he was eye-to-eye with so presence on the other side of the door.
Splash, splash—
The shower head continued to pour out warm water, but it perhaps felt a little cooler.
Lu Ban stood Unmoving, just bathed in the slightly cooler water.
After a mont, the light returned as if the gap had let out a sigh of relief, once again inviting the living room’s light in.
Lu Ban turned his head, preparing to continue bathing.
But as he turned, the towel rack suddenly collapsed, the stainless steel rod’s end pressing right against Lu Ban’s neck. Had he been slightly less aware, the rod could have stabbed into his neck.
Lu Ban lifted his foot, finding a lot of slippery suds underneath.
Setting the collapsed rack aside on the countertop, Lu Ban rinsed off his body, dried himself, got dressed, and stepped out of the bathroom.
The living room was bathed in bright sunlight close to noon.
He looked at his room, the kitchen, with no signs of anyone else.
Then, Lu Ban checked under the bed.
It was empty.
He went back to the bathroom door, picked up the broken rack, planning to buy a plastic replacent from the supermarket after waking up in the afternoon.
Glancing at the washing machine, Lu Ban noticed.
The dirty clothes he had taken off before the bath and shoved into the washer were now neatly folded and piled in the drum.
“…So the two housemates really don’t see eye to eye, huh…”
Lu Ban believed that there were at least two not-so-average housemates living in his ho, one of which seed to bear him ill will, while the other appeared relatively friendly.
However, compared to what he had seen last night, these two seed sowhat weak.
Lu Ban had no intentions of finding these two housemates to evict them, mainly because he was just an ordinary law-abiding citizen with no skills to communicate with the deceased. If things went south and they wanted to harm him, Lu Ban had no way to deal with it.
Moreover, by playing so festive and auspicious music, the two housemates would beco obedient, causing Lu Ban no trouble at all.
Even in the event of a burglary, they might even lend a hand in guarding the door.
It was like discovering a White-forehead High-legged Spider curled up in a corner near his bed. Although it looked terrifying and appeared quite nacing, it was actually beneficial, helping to catch mosquitoes. As long as he didn’t provoke it, it would quietly ‘slack off’ in the corner.
“Next ti I take a shower, I’ll have to play so music too.”
He set an alarm on his phone for six o’clock in the evening, started playing a Spring Festival playlist on his computer, threw himself onto the bed, and fell into a deep sleep.
…
Six o’clock.
The night had not yet fallen, and with the arrival of sumr, daylight would grow longer and longer. The Sumr Triangle would soon be clearly visible, the constant chirping of cicadas relentless, occasionally falling silent all at once, creating an oddly eerie atmosphere.
Lu Ban woke up and rubbed his eyes.
In the dim room, the lody of “Let the World Be Full of Love” echoed.
Lu Ban had slept soundly without any dreams.
He sat up, ordered so takeout, booted up his computer, and imported the videos he had acquired last night.
The raw footage, which had not appeared particularly large on his phone, suddenly beca much bigger once imported onto the computer, perhaps another wonder of the System.
Lu Ban didn’t dwell on these details.
He dragged the video’s tiline, finding footage from several cara positions replayed over roughly thirty hours, both in detail and quality far superior to the first video he had obtained. Perhaps this was the reward for the degree of exploration.
If the exploration rate reached one hundred percent, would he be able to unlock those bizarre perspectives?
“It’s a big project.”
Lu Ban opened the curtains and a creature that seed to have been standing there fled rapidly. He glanced at the rusty iron bars on the security net of the balcony, with traces of dark red that resembled congealed blood.
He wasn’t bothered by it.
Returning to the computer, Lu Ban launched the video editing software and began by cutting the video into several segnts, renaming and categorizing them.
One part was shot at a forty-five-degree angle from above in a third-person perspective, designed to show both Lu Ban and his surroundings simultaneously.
Another part was Lu Ban’s first-person perspective, with the flashlight’s beam providing a mysterious and thrilling sensation even without editing.
Other segnts were wide shots and panoramas, used as supplentary material.
Lu Ban noticed that the scenes of the stars that might harbor Divine Beings, which he had seen, were not included in these videos. He wasn’t sure whether that was due to hallucinations or the System’s inability to clearly capture the footage.
But it didn’t matter.
Lu Ban felt that if one didn’t experience it personally, others who saw those strange stars and the dark yellow planets would probably just be puzzled and unable to comprehend.
Dread cos from the familiar turned strange, and it is the discomfort that arises when familiar surroundings are disrupted. The more grounded and common the changes, the more terror they bring. Even if Lu Ban told his viewers that the star Bellatrix had exploded and the ensuing radiation storm was fast approaching Earth, threatening all life, most people would just laugh it off without concern.
Understanding cos at a cost.
Conversely, simple horror scenes like seeing a shadow behind oneself in the mirror, feeling sothing scratching the bed while lying down, or a spider crawling into one’s mouth while asleep, are much scarier and easier to understand.
After preparing these materials, before Lu Ban’s eyes, the words on the computer screen changed into the detached and icy explanations of the System.
He clicked into the dark green [Director] career tab, and quickly, the career task popped out of “My Computer.”
