Chapter 126: 125. Mom, I’m in love_1
A sophomore at the Automation College of Jiangcheng University, Xu Duchong, was enjoying the Mid-Autumn holiday.
He wasn’t from Jiangcheng but lived in Jiang Province, with his hotown in Lingcheng, right next to Jiangcheng. Although administratively, Lingcheng is considered a subordinate city to Jiangcheng, Xu Duchong always identified himself as soone from Lingcheng, never as a Jiangcheng local.
There was a common joke online about how people from Jiang Province considered even crossing a street to be going to a “Foreign Domain,” indicative of their parochial mindset.
Because he lived close by, he would go ho even for the short one-day Mid-Autumn break.
For Xu Duchong, being ho wasn’t all that comfortable; he was woken up by his mother at eight in the morning, had lunch at his grandmother’s, and then moved on to his grandfather’s house in the evening.
After dinner, he could finally slack off.
After getting thrashed in four consecutive gas playing with classmates, Xu Duchong turned off the ga.
“Stupid ga, I’m deleting it!”
He clicked delete and removed the ga’s desktop icon.
As for why he deleted the icon instead of uninstalling the ga, Xu Duchong could only say those who know, know.
Reinstalling the ga was a hassle.
“You should play fewer gas and spend so ti studying. Look at the brother next door; he got a job at a state-owned enterprise right after graduating from university and is about to get married. Right, you should find a girlfriend at university. Otherwise, when you graduate, who will take a second glance at soone from our family…”
His mother nagged while bringing in the peeled apples and mooncakes.
“Got it.”
Xu Duchong responded and opened a video streaming website, looking for a movie to watch.
Biting into an apple he held in his left hand, he saw an update from a subscribed channel.
“Motionless updated? A movie?”
His curiosity was piqued.
After being thoroughly duped by one of Lu Ban’s interactive videos previously, Xu Duchong had recomnded it to his dormmates.
Consequently, the entire dorm had been tricked.
Xu Duchong was quite pleased with himself.
“I didn’t expect a short film this ti, it’s remarkably long in duration.”
He took another bite of the apple and clicked on the film.
The film had barely begun, and before the visual even appeared, a bunch of comnts popped up on the screen.
[Such a deeply touching film, make sure to watch it to the end!]
[Not scary at all, looks like UP has successfully transitioned!]
[This is a heartwarming film, filled with positive energy!]
[Warning: High energy ahead! Non-combatants, evacuate!]
[Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, everyone!]
Also, there were a bunch of comnts with dates, which Xu Duchong promptly hid, and he minimized the comnt density to its lowest to start watching the film.
After the simple production company logo, Xu Duchong saw a clear, azure vast sea.
It resembled a southern island; the aerial shot allowed views of fish schools and a small boat beneath the water’s surface, quite magnificent.
“The visuals aren’t bad.”
Xu Duchong comnted as he took another bite of his apple.
Suddenly, he saw Lu Ban appear following a brief conversation with a boatman. Xu Duchong sensed that sothing was amiss.
“What’s that under the water?”
Many comnts were pointing it out; as he looked closer, Xu Duchong spotted sothing in the water.
It was a huge monster, larger than any creature he had ever seen before.
The monstrous being glided beneath Lu Ban’s small boat, its enormous form becoming ever more terrifying in the clear water.
The boat toppled over, and the cara plunged into the sea, where beneath the tumultuous surface, there was a tranquility akin to the night.
Lu Ban fell into the water, the sunlight filtering through the waves making his complexion as pale as a corpse.
Xu Duchong’s hand, holding the apple, stopped mid-bite.
He felt a suffocating sensation, as if he were drowning, lost as to what to do.
He couldn’t breathe, and it felt like water had entered his eyes, causing an itching sensation. Xu Duchong felt as if it wasn’t Lu Ban who had fallen into the water, but himself.
Then, he saw that imnse creature at the bottom of the sea, covered in eyeballs and tentacles.
That incomprehensible creature triggered Xu Duchong’s fear of giant things; his eyes widened as he felt an increasing pressure in his chest, as if he were sinking to the bottom of the sea.
At that mont, the barrage of comnts suddenly dwindled, as if everyone had been overwheld by the scene and had fallen into suffocation.
[My claustrophobia is killing ]
[These special effects are so oppressive, they feel so real]
[Am I the only one who feels like they can’t breathe?]
[Everyone, six minutes are almost up, see you all later]
[What the heck, my cupboard just moved]
A buzzing noise from the pressure change filled his ears, and Xu Duchong stared dumbly at the monster, seeing countless massive tentacles reaching out towards the cara.
He could even feel the slippery tentacles brushing against his arm.
No, that wasn’t an illusion.
Xu Duchong felt sothing brush past his ankle; he looked down to see a tentacle stretching out from the shadow, slowly coiling around his legs.
“!!!”
Xu Duchong was startled and quickly drew back his legs.
On closer inspection, he realized it was just the cables and power strip’s cords.
“Scared
to death…”
Xu Duchong kept reminding himself that this was all just a movie, all fake, and then looked back at the screen.
The huge creature was being burned by flas, and the pale fire at the bottom of the sea made Xu Duchong feel a chill through the screen.
He watched as Lu Ban was rescued and the boat headed towards an island, with the cara zooming out as the movie’s title appeared between the sea and sky.
“The Hundred Poets”.
“Is this so kind of Japanese story?”
Xu Duchong felt his breathing ease up a lot, the feeling of suffocation just monts ago now seeming like an illusion.
These days, many dostic films like to use foreign material, allowing audiences to experience different cultures, which he didn’t mind.
“That island’s quite nice; wonder which one it is.”
Xu Duchong rembered he still had an apple in his hand, he took another two bites and followed the plot advancent.
“Turns out it’s a suspense genre, searching for soone, huh? Who’s this actress ‘Red Leaf’? She’s quite beautiful.”
As a teenager, Xu Duchong was naturally drawn to pretty girls; he felt the film’s leading lady was very attractive. Unlike the internet celebrity style which uniformly featured snake-like faces, she didn’t have that weathered, world-weary look, but instead appeared pure, cute, and a bit aloof.
[Holy crap, beautiful!]
[Within three minutes, I want all her information!]
[Which star is this, haven’t seen her before?]
[Newcor I guess, might be a student from so film academy, but the acting is pretty good]
[My heart has been stolen by Red Leaf, from now on, perhaps there will be no more sorrow or joy!]
[Mom, I’m in love]
[I feel like, so far in this movie, only the protagonist’s acting is the worst, everyone else is quite good, even the boatman is better than the protagonist!]
[Did you guys get that feeling of suffocation just now, damn I felt like I couldn’t breathe myself]
[Yes, yes, when I saw Miss Red Leaf, my heart stopped beating!]
Watching these infatuated comnts, Xu Duchong snorted disdainfully.
“All blinded by beauty, so superficial!”
He then paused the video, opened his browser, and started searching for keywords like “The Hundred Poets”, “Red Leaf”, and “actress”.
Five minutes later, Xu Duchong ca back disappointed.
“No information at all! What the hell!”
He picked up a mooncake and continued watching the movie.
