Chapter 1954: Chapter 1982: Watch How You Speak to My Brother
“Is that so? I should have anticipated this…”
Lin Zhi’s eyes dimd; the only city capable of aiding Lin City had fallen, leaving Lin City completely isolated without support.
“We wish to contribute to Lin City’s efforts. If you wouldn’t mind, we hope Miss Lin could lead the way.”
Jiang Que said.
“You have just saved the two of us, so of course I trust you. Unfortunately, we are surrounded, and I don’t know if we can break through those Living Dead.”
Lin Zhi sighed.
“The Living Dead are already gone, Immortal Lin is safe now.”
Li Xiaobai said casually. Just earlier, he had dealt with all the Living Dead by tossing them into the Lake of Resentful Spirits, clearing the forest instantly.
“Huh?”
“What… happened?”
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhi looked up, her face full of bewildernt, seeing only an ordinary shaded path with no trace of the Living Dead.
Even the corpses on the ground had disappeared, leaving only mottled blood stains as evidence of the tragedy that had occurred here.
“Thank you for your intervention, Senior. Please follow my family’s young lady into the city so we can properly repay this act of kindness!”
Lin Ping was shocked, unaware of any occurrences. He turned his head and found all the Living Dead were gone.
The younger appearance of these cultivators made it likely they were powerful seniors who had trained for years in remote mountain forests!
With the protection of these four, Lin City was saved!
Li Xiaobai smiled, “Then I will trouble you.”
The group set off again, with Lin Ping and Lin Zhi leading the way, followed by Li Xiaobai and the others.
Along the way, they encountered no more Living Dead; Li Xiaobai had gathered all of them earlier.
Once the Lake of Resentful Spirits refines these Living Dead, the influence of the Great Resentnt Species will double.
About the ti it takes to steep a cup of tea.
The group erged from the forest, coincidentally encountering a troop of cavalry anxiously searching through the woods as if looking for sothing. Upon seeing Lin Ping and Lin Zhi, the cavalryn’s faces lit up with joy. They rushed over, dismounted, and knelt on one knee.
“We arrived late to rescue. Please forgive us for the delay, miss!”
“There’s no need for such formality; it was us who beca separated, falling into the Living Dead’s encirclent. Thanks to these four seniors for saving us, or else Lin Ping and I would have been long dead.”
Lin Zhi smiled gently, helping the soldiers up with grace.
The soldiers bowed to express gratitude to Li Xiaobai and his party.
The head of the cavalry signaled, and four soldiers voluntarily led horses toward Li Xiaobai and his group, respectfully inviting them to mount.
The courtesy was impeccable, leaving Li Xiaobai no reason to refuse. From Miss Lin Zhi to the cavalry, everyone in Lin City conducted themselves with remarkable politeness.
Even the usually sharp-tongued Jiang Que had nothing negative to say; their thoughtfulness was impressive.
After brief pleasantries, the group continued onward.
Lin City was significantly larger than the Naless City they had encountered earlier; the city gate was at least a third larger, but remained tightly shut. Below, the Living Dead road freely, showing no aggression due to their lack of targets. However, sensing the dense aura of living beings inside, they lingered outside, refusing to leave.
“Lin City is already surrounded. At this rate, it’s only a matter of ti before the Living Dead launch an attack.”
“We secretly fought our way out through a smaller gate, hoping to find supplies and military assistance. But it seems we’ve returned empty-handed.”
Lin Ping explained the situation to Li Xiaobai. They had chosen a weak spot in the encirclent to escape, but their escape had caused noise, leading to a large gathering of Living Dead at that point.
“Don’t worry, it’s easy.”
Li Xiaobai said softly.
In the next instant, Lin Ping and Lin Zhi felt sothing strange; without even blinking, all the Living Dead surrounding the city had mysteriously vanished, and they didn’t know when or how it happened.
They couldn’t help but look at Li Xiaobai in shock, knowing it was this young cultivator who had saved them earlier.
The thod was too miraculous, beyond their comprehension.
“Let’s enter the city.”
Li Xiaobai acted casually, able to sweep away the Living Dead in the world where ti was paused.
The guards on the walls were also astonished, not understanding what had transpired. But at Lin Zhi’s instruction, they slowly opened the gate to let everyone through.
Li Xiaobai, Da Jianbi, Yu Huan Shui glanced at Jiang Que unobtrusively, reassured only when he nodded discreetly.
It seed Jiang Que had investigated the city, and there were no problems for the ti being.
The city was filled with a pervasive stench, the sll of decaying corpses. Many starving civilians lay on the roadside, their bodies ignored.
Lin Zhi said it’s not that she doesn’t want to deal with it, but can’t— the city had run out of food, and more common folk were dying of starvation in the streets. Throwing the bodies outside could transform them into Living Dead, and calling cultivators to handle them would consu ntal energy. With a war imminent, no one wanted to exhaust their strength on such matters.
So the bodies were left on the streets.
“In that case, I can take care of these corpses, Immortal Lin wouldn’t mind, would you?”
Li Xiaobai smiled.
“If the gentleman is willing to help, the young lady would be grateful!”
Lin Zhi’s eyes lit up. She recalled Li Xiaobai’s thod of dealing with the Living Dead— if he could handle them, surely he could do the sa with ordinary corpses.
“Forgive .”
Li Xiaobai waved his hand, tossing the roadside corpses into the Lake of Resentful Spirits. Even ordinary civilians could be refined into Great Resentnt Species, contributing to the construction of the Pure Land of extre evil.
“Little sister, who is this person, daring to act freely in my Lin City? Are they disregarding our city’s strength?”
A team of cavalry approached, led by a man resembling Lin Zhi.
Lin Zhi smiled, “Second brother, these four are the reinforcents I invited. Their skills are impressive and will surely bring safety to Lin City!”
“Hmph, you went with the young lady to find reinforcents and brought back these old, weak, and sickly fools— bringing sha to the Lin family. I regret recomnding you to father, granting you the Lin surna!”
The man addressed as second brother replied coldly, slapping Lin Ping off his horse and striking his chest with a cultivation-powered palm, causing Lin Ping to vomit blood and collapse unconscious.
Li Xiaobai and his party watched coldly, without intending to help. They had entered the city to gather information about the Living Dead; internal family conflicts were none of their concern.
“Second brother, you…”
Lin Zhi supported Lin Ping back onto a horse, glaring at the man once before hastily leaving.
“Weren’t you saying preserving strength was a priority, even city corpses remain untouched?”
“How do you have the energy to kill?”
“Seems like Immortal Lin’s words weren’t entirely true.”
Li Xiaobai said calmly, riding onward.
A long spear blocked the way.
“Hold on, how dare you speak to my family’s Princely Heir like that? Kneel and confess your guilt.”
A black rider pressed the spear tip against Li Xiaobai’s chest, speaking with a chilling tone.
The man coldly observed; he found Li Xiaobai sowhat familiar but couldn’t recall where they had t, assuming he was just a cultivator saved by Lin Ping’s team from outside.
They failed to secure supplies, no military aid arrived; the precious opportunity to leave the city had been wasted, causing his intense dissatisfaction.
But as soon as the black rider spoke, he suddenly retracted his spear, pointing it at his own chest and driving it through to a chilling end.
From the crowd’s rear ca Yu Huan Shui’s calm voice, “How dare you speak to my brother like that? Commit seppuku, apologize.”
