Dinner at Chen Yao's house was around 7 PM, and by the ti they finished eating, it was already past 8.
Lin Nan was once again fed until she could barely walk.
Having already slept for two hours in the afternoon, she wasn't the least bit drowsy now. On the contrary, she was quite energetic. As soon as she returned to Chen Yao's room, she occupied the desktop computer.
The feeling of smooth internet was really nice.
Although she still felt a bit of resistance about staying here, as soon as Lin Nan touched the computer, she imdiately threw that resistance to the back of her mind.
After all, the internet here was good and there were things to do, which was much more comfortable than staying at her grandfather's house with nothing to do.
Plus there was lots of good food.
Lin Nan rubbed her belly, suspecting she'd gain several pounds after staying here for a few days.
Chen Yao was still outside talking to his parents about sothing. Lin Nan casually clicked on "This PC" in the upper left corner of the screen, opening folder after folder with interest.
There was a certain thrill in sneakily looking at soone else's privacy.
However, Chen Yao's computer was quite ssy, with folders scattered everywhere. Most were software, gas, and downloaded ani.
Lin Nan randomly clicked on an ani and discovered it was Overlord, which had been hugely popular a few years ago. She hadn't really watched it at the ti, so now was a good chance to catch up.
Just watching the beginning, Lin Nan looked at the Skeleton King in the scene using passive magic to forcibly calm himself, and fell into thought.
I seem to... also know this magic?
She blankly recalled the magic she had inexplicably unlocked when she first beca a girl, looking bewildered.
The main issue was that unlocking this magic hadn't been her intention. Combined with the anxiety of becoming female and the pressure of final exams, Lin Nan had completely thrown this matter to the back of her mind.
I'm such an idiot!
Lin Nan muttered a curse at herself. She actually didn't need to suffer so much this afternoon, and when watching that horror movie the other day, she could have used magic to calm down too.
But the problem was, this wasn't a ga where learned magic could be placed on a quick bar to check anyti. When emotions were running high, who would rember there was a magic spell that could calm you down?
Just like in gas when being flad by toxic players from Zaun, Lin Nan wouldn't rember she had a mute button available.
Forgetting about it was probably inevitable, right?
Even Lilith and Lina from the other world used this magic by activating it beforehand.
Lin Nan made excuses for herself in her mind, but no matter how she thought about it, she felt incredibly stupid.
When Chen Yao ca into the room carrying a case of Wangzai milk, he imdiately saw Lin Nan regretfully hitting her head with her hand.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Lin Nan naturally couldn't tell him about the magic, so she changed the subject: "I should be able to leave tonight."
Before Chen Yao could say anything, the aunt suddenly appeared at the door: "Leave tonight?!"
Lin Nan felt a bit awkward and scratched her head. Facing the aunt who had always been extrely caring toward her, she felt sowhat guilty and said with an embarrassed smile: "I have a friend who's going to the countryside. I'll give him a call before he leaves to take along."
The friend she ntioned was actually a ride-share she'd booked on a car-hailing app. Since the buses had stopped running now and the roads would be closed tomorrow, she definitely needed to escape tonight.
Otherwise, she couldn't really spend New Year's at Chen Yao's house, could she?
"Going out at this ti isn't safe." The aunt hurried forward, pulling Lin Nan's hand and trying to convince her. "Auntie doesn't lack an extra bowl and chopsticks. Just stay here for a few days. When the epidemic is over in a while, wouldn't it be better to leave then?"
Who knew when it would end?
Although the epidemic didn't seem severe now, the problem was that screening all those returning ho for New Year would probably take half a month.
She couldn't possibly stay at Chen Yao's house for that entire half month, could she?
Chen Yao didn't try too hard to persuade her to stay, just ntioning: "Isn't there a reunion tomorrow? Are you really not going?"
"Auntie, if I don't go ho for New Year, my family will definitely talk about ." Lin Nan tried to comfort this aunt who treated her so well.
But after just a few words, the forty-sothing aunt's eyes beca teary as she started blaming herself: "It's all my fault for not settling you in properly that you want to leave..."
Wait, why was she crying?
Lin Nan looked up at Chen Yao, but Chen Yao just shook his head, indicating he was helpless too.
"If you get infected on the road going back, how upset would Auntie be..."
"No, the probability of that is way too low..." Lin Nan had always been soone who responded to kindness rather than force. Seeing the aunt's tears about to fall, her mind went blank. In her anxiety, she kept nodding without thinking about the consequences. "I'll stay, I'll stay. I'll stay for a few days, okay?"
"But I don't have any clothes to change into here..."
The aunt's tears imdiately stopped, her face full of smiles: "I have friends in the clothing business. I'll have her send over a few outfits tomorrow, guaranteed to all be your preferred style!"
...?
Your emotional changes are probably even faster than mine.
Seeing the aunt's emotions stabilize, Lin Nan breathed a long sigh of relief, but then suddenly rembered that tomorrow the roads would be closed...
If she stayed tonight, she probably wouldn't be able to go back for a while.
She felt a bit panicked and tried to back out, but the aunt gave her absolutely no chance. She got up and imdiately called her friend to send won's clothing over. When the aunt turned her back, she shot a look at Chen Yao standing in the doorway.
Chen Yao imdiately stepped forward to comfort Lin Nan: "It's fine. Even if they close the roads, it won't be for long. Going back on the second or third day of New Year is the sa, right?"
"If I don't go back for New Year, my relatives will definitely say I'm ungrateful..." Lin Nan said dejectedly, head down.
"Why do you care about those relatives you don't even know?" Chen Yao pulled out his phone. "I'll call your mom and explain the situation. She'll definitely understand you."
When did you even get my mom's number?
Lin Nan was extrely conflicted. On one hand, Chen Yao's parents here were really too enthusiastic. Moreover, it was currently the epidemic period. Although there weren't many cases here, going out to take a ride-share right now really wasn't good. Who knew if that driver had been in contact with people from the epidemic zone...
On the other hand, her grandparents and mother definitely hoped she'd go back for New Year. This was her first New Year after becoming a girl, and she didn't really want to miss it.
Chen Yao finished his call and flashed Lin Nan a smile: "Your mom says she understands. She said you don't need to go back for New Year."
"Really?"
Her phone vibrated. Lin Nan looked down at WeChat and found her mother had also sent a ssage, telling her to try not to go out now, that it didn't matter if she couldn't make it back for New Year, and so on.
Moreover, her mother planned to work overti at the factory during New Year, to avoid having no inco if the epidemic lasted too long.
Don't factories usually have half a month off for New Year?
Lin Nan couldn't quite understand the situation, but since everyone was saying this, she could only reluctantly stay here.
"Fine then..." She turned to look at the computer screen, clicking on the paused player, preparing to continue watching the ani.
However, Chen Yao suddenly beca nervous: "I think it would be better to watch it on the website instead. There are bullet comnts, it's livelier."
"I don't like bullet comnts, they're too ssy." Lin Nan replied.
But she imdiately sensed sothing was wrong. She glanced suspiciously at Chen Yao behind her, then suddenly reached out to grab the mouse and opened the player's history page.
Sure enough!
Lots of strange Japanese titles!
