The three of them gathered again, and Gu Shanhai took the initiative—anyway, he had co up empty-handed.
"I’ll go first. The controller of the town is the town’s richest man, Mr. Luo. From his reputation, he seems to be a kind-hearted type. You guys probably know the situation," White Cloud said as he massaged his temples, before continuing, "Other than that, there doesn’t seem to be much. Strange, though, is that over a decade ago, a hunter from the south of the city died. His stomach was ripped open by a wild beast right in the middle of the city; his organs were strewn all about. Everyone’s story was consistent, but it’s suspected to be a falsehood."
The reason this seems like a lie is simple: what kind of beast could enter the city, kill a man without any noise, and not eat the victim?
If it were a real beast, how could the victim’s organs have been left behind? To carnivores, internal organs are the most nutritious parts; they usually eat them first.
"As for , I haven’t found much, but I did find so doubts," Gu Shanhai said honestly, even though he hadn’t found much. For example, the temple priest appeared to be quite wealthy. Also, the priest adopted one girl but there was another, as well as so peculiarities about the herbalist and Fan Shi, and so on.
"Observing so ticulously, co to think of it, there seems to be sothing off with Yun Niang Temple. Let’s investigate further," Heavenly Immortal remarked curiously, glancing at Gu Shanhai. "You said you wanted to take action directly, so why are you still looking so closely?"
"Right, you guys carry on with the investigation. Tonight, I plan to do sothing thrilling with Fan Shi," Gu Shanhai declared his intent to steer clear of their plans.
"What have you discovered about Fan Shi?" White Cloud inquired, sowhat curious.
"It’s precisely because I haven’t discovered anything that I’m planning to go there," Gu Shanhai was blunt—he really hadn’t discovered anything.
As for the discrepancy between what he ate and where he stayed, it wasn’t really a matter; if one had to force an explanation, maybe today was his birthday—he only splurged on a al once a year, and just by chance, Gu Shanhai had co upon him.
"Eh, you’re thinking of going over tonight?" Compared to White Cloud’s curiosity, Heavenly Immortal caught on to the key point in Gu Shanhai’s words.
During the day, it might be proper questioning or other investigative thods, but at night, combined with Gu Shanhai’s wording, it ant Fan Shi was likely in for so real trouble.
"Sure, do so stuff that can only be done at night. Wanna co along?" Gu Shanhai extended the invitation.
Heavenly Immortal’s eyes sparkled; this was up his alley. Next, he would undoubtedly need to concoct sothing useful on the spot—like a Rat-man summoning or sothing of the sort. That could co in very handy. If it was strong at the start, then after all these years, it must have beco even stronger.
White Cloud, on the other side, looked a bit unsettled, clearly misunderstanding sothing as she grabbed Heavenly Immortal, who was eager to try: "When did you develop this hobby? Are you into so edgy play now?"

"No, there’s just the one with that kink—your husband. Don’t lump in. I’m just getting ready for a proper bout of interrogation," Gu Shanhai quickly clarified. This was too outrageous.
"Weren’t you going to create Rat-n? I was going to help you with that," Heavenly Immortal explained, his expression changing.
Hearing this, White Cloud also felt a bit embarrassed; it seed she had really misunderstood.
But, just to be safe, in case the two were too open-minded for her liking, she said, "I’ll co along with you two."
"..." Gu Shanhai was speechless; he had planned on not bringing anyone along, yet now he seed to be stuck with two burdens.
Heavenly Immortal hurriedly explained the situation further to White Cloud.
As dusky shadows began to fall, Qingxian Town also quieted down. It wasn’t a modern world, so there wasn’t much nightlife. Besides, people had to get up early for work the next day, so naturally, they went to bed early.
Even if they played at making babies, they couldn’t possibly do that all night.
Now, only a few scattered lights remained, like those from the inn or Mr. Luo’s family mansion in town; the rest of the place was pitch black.
"Let’s go. You two should have night vision abilities, right?" Gu Shanhai asked as he mounted Little White.
Any profession and skill system should have corresponding visual abilities or talents. Even summoners needed them, or else they’d be blind despite having eyes open.
"We do, but are you sure you want us to follow on foot and not ride together?" Heavenly Immortal teased, giving Gu Shanhai almost a jealous look. He had wanted a mount himself, yet could never find one. He, too, had noticed that Gu Shanhai’s summons were high-quality, so he was keen on getting a taste.
"Not really feasible. If both of you get on, Little White might collapse, and if it ends up kicking you to death, I’d still have to beat the ga alone," Gu Shanhai flat-out refused without hesitation, as a Cow and Horse Summoner, why would he be lacking in cows and horses?
