Chapter 298: True Intentions
Tempest Isle
And across an impossible distance, beyond mountains and oceans, on an island, ancient eyes locked onto the scene.
Typhoon the Dragon King stared at the dissipating do with intensity that transcended normal observation.
His draconic features twisted in confusion as he caught a glimpse of sothing through the fading barrier.
A dragon.
Standing beside the human who’d orchestrated this massacre. An Emperor-class dragon radiating essence that felt familiar yet foreign to him.
Typhoon’s eyes narrowed, trying to identify what he was sensing. The essence tugged at mories buried under centuries of accumulated experience.
Sothing he should recognize but couldn’t quite place.
Then Emberion turned away from the battlefield and looked directly at him.
Their eyes t across the impossible distance.
Father and son separated by mountains, oceans and centuries of abandonnt.
But Typhoon didn’t recognize what he saw.
The dragon staring back at him carried his essence, yes, but transford beyond identification.
Evolved into sothing greater than what he’d discarded. Empowered by forces that made the Dragon King’s certainty waver for the first ti in millennia.
’Who are you?’ Typhoon’s thought carried confusion that bordered on concern. ’Why do you feel like sothing I should know?’
Emberion’s expression remained unreadable. Then he turned away without acknowledgnt and stepped through the portal leading back to Floor 25.
The dinsional tear sealed behind him, cutting off the connection before Typhoon could process what he’d witnessed.
The Dragon King’s attention lingered on the battlefield for a mont longer. .
The portals closed, leaving Jack alone with S and the thousand survivors.
Jack turned his attention to S, who stood calmly among the captured commanders, his red eyes watching everything with that sa unreadable expression.
"Watch them," Jack gestured to Marcus and the seven captains, all bound and guarded by soldiers who’d earned their spots by capturing them. "Make sure none of them try anything stupid while I finish this."
"Of course," S replied, his tone carrying polite deference. But judging by his tone Jack could sense his amusent.
"Though I suspect that one..." he gestured to Marcus’s catatonic form, "...won’t be causing any trouble."
Jack’s gaze flickered to Marcus.
Now reduced to a broken shell with one leg ruined and his mind retreating into whatever darkness consud it.
’Not enough,’ Jack thought coldly. ’But it’s a start.’
He turned to face the thousand survivors. They stared back with expressions mixing exhaustion, trauma, and fragile hope that they’d actually survived this nightmare.
Jack let the silence stretch, watching them squirm.
Watching them process. Waiting until he could see the exact mont they started believing they might actually walk away.
"Co forward. All of you. Form a circle around . You’ve earned your freedom. Now you’ll swear the oath and leave."
The survivors stirred. Relief flooded faces that had been locked in desperate survival mode.
They began moving, stepping over corpses, navigating blood-slicked ice, forming a rough circle perhaps twenty feet from where Jack stood.
One thousand n stood covered in blood. Exhaustion colored their faces, they were alive, but clearly traumatized.
They’d survived what fourteen thousand others hadn’t.
Jack waited until they’d all assembled.
His voice carried across the do with authority that made the air itself seem to lean in.
"You’ve proven yourselves. Proven you understand who holds power here. Proven you’re willing to do what’s necessary to survive."
Hope blood across their faces. Desperate, fragile hope that the nightmare was finally ending.
"Father Caelen!" Jack called out, his voice cutting across the silence.
The priest materialized from where he’d been waiting at the do’s edge, moving with purpose toward the assembled survivors.
His weathered face was set in grim determination, understanding exactly what was being asked of him without needing explanation.
His hands rose as he approached the thousand rcenaries. His voice bellowed.
"LIGHT OF CAELORA!"
Radiance erupted from Father Caelen’s form, brilliant and blinding. The light washed over him, Jack, and S in waves, soaking into his skin.
His eyes blazed gold. His entire body seed to glow from within.
[Buff Activated: Light of Caelora]
[ 50 to all stats for 5 minutes]
Father Caelen’s posture straightened.
His movents beca fluid, enhanced beyond normal human capability.
The power of his patron god flowed through him with the certainty of absolute faith.
He reached the survivors and thrust his hands downward. His voice thundered again, carrying power that made the air itself vibrate.
"FINAL EDICT!"
A circle erupted beneath the thousand survivors.
Twenty ters in diater, blazing with radiant light that burned gold and white.
Symbols appeared along its circumference, ancient characters that no one knew how to read.
The circle locked into place.
Every survivor within the circle scread as their bodies seized.
Movent beca treacle.
Radiance soaking through clothing, armor, and skin, searing nerve endings with divine fury that had no rcy.
"LET US OUT!"
"YOU SAID WE COULD LEAVE!"
"PLEASE! WE DID WHAT YOU ASKED!"
The screams overlapped, building into a cacophony of betrayal and terror.
n who’d fought their way through fourteen thousand corpses, who’d earned their survival through blood and murder, realizing too late that the oath was a lie.
That there was never going to be freedom. That they were going to die here like everyone else.
Jack watched their faces twist with understanding.
With rage and despair.
He felt nothing but cold satisfaction that justice was being served.
Then he felt it.
And as the do faded, revealing the carnage within to the world outside, Jack whispered two words.
"Astrapon’s Reign."
The air above split.
Blue lightning erupted from the sky, crackling across the space where the do’s ceiling had been before plumting downward in jagged forks that illuminated everything with a strobe-light intensity.
CRACK!
BOOM!
The thunder was deafening.
Each lightning bolt descended with enough force to shake the ground, creating shockwaves that rippled across the ice.
The survivors trapped in Father Caelen’s circle stared upward, watching death descend from the heavens.
Their screams intensified, the sound of n realizing they’d been played from the very beginning.
Thunder rolled across the battlefield.
Jack raised his hands, closed his eyes, and stared at the sky as he felt the warm light caress his skin.
And the world outside finally saw what Jack Kaiser did to those who threatened House Kaiser.
The first bolt struck.
A rcenary’s scream cut off mid-breath as blue lightning punched through his skull.
His body convulsed, electricity arcing through armor that conducted the divine fury directly into his body.
He collapsed, smoke rising from where his eyes had been.
CRACK!
BOOM!
Three more bolts descended simultaneously.
They could only watch death fall from the sky with mathematical precision.
Blood sprayed briefly before being cooked from the heat.
Bodies jerked like puppets with cut strings.
The sll of burning at intensified until the air itself tasted like char.
Jack’s face carried satisfaction that transcended re pleasure.
This was justice.
This was the consequence.
This was what happened when soone threatened House Kaiser.
"NO ONE!" Jack’s voice thundered across the battlefield, cutting through screams and lightning strikes with authority that made reality itself seem to pause.
"NO ONE THREATENS MY FAMILY!"
"YOU CA TO MY HO!"
Another bolt struck, punctuating his words with divine wrath.
"YOU ALLIED WITH TRAITORS!" Two more rcenaries fell, their bodies smoking.
"YOU STRUCK SERAPHINA!"
The lightning intensified. Multiple forks descended in rapid succession, creating a drumbeat of thunder that shook the ground.
"YOU TOOK MY SISTER HOSTAGE!"
