Chapter 820: Chapter 697: Welco to the Second World!

Facing the world before him, which was as vast as the universe, Lynn, after a re 0.1 seconds of astonishnt, regained his composure.

“Welco to the Second World!”

A grand voice echoed through the cosmic void, and then, a figure materialized beside Lynn.

“Long ti no see, Professor Coleman!” Lynn greeted with tranquility. He naturally recognized the person before him, Dr. Coleman, the most renowned scientist of the past Federation.

Lynn, a graduate of the Engineering Academy, had the privilege of attending his lectures, though they only t a few tis.

Dr. Coleman clearly did not rember this forr student, but from watching the space monunt upon entering Earth and accurately stating all details of Recorder 097841, it seed there was so credibility to his previous words.

“Is this the so-called Second World?” Lynn looked around, having already seen through this universe the mont he entered.

“Indeed!” Coleman nodded, his words imbued with an indescribable emotion. “Now all of humanity has entered the Second World, where everyone can have whatever they desire!”

As his words fell, scenes unfolded before Lynn’s eyes.

There were ancient battlefields of fierce combat, decadent lives filled with bright lights and wine, strange and fantastical worlds, with countless people lost within them, unable to extricate themselves.

These were, of course, not real worlds. Lynn had long realized that they were in a virtual space that straddled reality and illusion.

It resembled the virtual universe he had concocted to fool people like Harrov, but due to the massive computing power provided by the bases spread across the entire galaxy, the laws of the universe at a quantum level could be simulated here. For the beings inside, it might be indistinguishable from living in reality.

“Can you tell what happened in the Federation over the past thousand years?” Lynn asked in confusion.

He did not understand how the Federation, which had beco a level-three stellar civilization and barely achieved interstellar travel, could have fallen to this extent.

Coleman sighed before speaking. “Partly because of internal wars, and perhaps partly my fault…”

“Internal wars? Related to the Unproductive?” Lynn keenly realized.

“Indeed!” Coleman nodded. Lynn ntioning the term “Unproductive” indicated he was indeed Recorder 097841.

So-called Unproductive was a self-deprecating term used by the Federation’s lower-class civilians. The rapid developnt of artificial intelligence technology had replaced nearly 99% of jobs, causing the most terrifying unemploynt rate in human history!

The Federation’s response was to create a large number of aningless jobs to give people sothing to do, and to issue a monthly stipend of one thousand credit points, just enough for a person’s basic food, clothing, and entertainnt.

With the production capacity of a level-three civilization, eting the basic needs of billions was still achievable.

However, this only delayed the conflicts temporarily, as the terrifying social class disparity persisted.

Moreover, there was a second major issue: longevity!

Due to the maturity of gene technology, human lifespan significantly increased, allowing a small group to forever occupy the top positions.

A Genetic Transformation Potion with a 20% concentration required one million Federation credit points to purchase; an ordinary Federation citizen had to find a job and work for thirty years just to barely save enough!

As for more advanced Genetic Transformation Potions, they were almost impossible for commoners to obtain.

This made the transition of power and wealth exceedingly slow.

This situation divided the Federation’s lower-class populace into three factions: so completely gave up, relying on the monthly stipend of a thousand credit points from the Federation to live a laid-back life.

So strove doggedly, doing whatever it took to climb up, hoping one day to beco a top figure and enjoy all the pleasures.

Others wavered between the two, dissatisfied with the status quo, wanting change but powerless to achieve it, as only a few could stand out no matter how hard one tried.

In his past life, Lynn belonged to the third group. His situation was slightly better; thanks to his exceptional achievents, he found a seemingly important yet aningless job—Recorder!

On the day of joining, Lynn knew he was likely to spend his entire life in this position…

However, being a Recorder allowed Lynn to understand the Federation’s plight more deeply than he had imagined. It was terrifyingly close to transformation, only a spark away!

And soon, this spark was ignited.

Forty-seven years after his death, the war finally broke out and was quelled in just nine years.

Lynn was not surprised by this. The Federation upper echelons, who commanded control over artificial intelligence, were nearly invincible, which was why they dared to cling to power without letting go.

Of course, the rebellion was not aningless as it caused great turmoil throughout the Federation. Crucially, the conflict did not resolve but showed signs of further expansion.

And the Curvature Engine Technology, seen as a lifeline by the Federation elite, had yet to make a breakthrough. Unable to use interstellar migration to absorb the billions of unemployed, the Federation leadership had to find a new solution.

“The new solution they found is the Second World?” Lynn slightly raised his eyebrows.

Stabilizing the situation and resolving conflicts through the internet and virtual gas was a policy already implented by the Federation before his journey, and it was highly effective.

It required only a small amount of resources to bring people imnse joy, a crucial part of the “Civilian Entertainnt Plan”!

Coleman nodded, approving Lynn’s guess. Three years after the war ended, with the improvent of consciousness link technology, the Federation began promoting the Second World as a tool to ease social tensions and prevent another civil war.

Especially after the successful developnt of emotion simulation devices, for humans linked to intelligent brains in virtual space, the Second World was almost indistinguishable from the real world!

However, the resources inside were nearly infinite!

Here, anyone could experience the life they desired and achieve what they couldn’t in reality, whether becoming an ancient general on the battlefield, a dragon-slaying hero in a fantasy world, or commanding an interstellar war. Anything was possible.

The line between reality and virtual was blurred to the extre!
