Chapter 642: 538

In such a state, they could only barely capture the trajectory of the electrons moving past, and were unable to determine which slit the electrons actually passed through, let alone how they passed through both slits.

Yet even with such an extent of effort, only two distinct spots of light were projected on the fluorescent screen behind, indicating that the electrons had behaved obediently as particles and passed through one of the slits.

“Why… Why does it know we’ve set up a magic detection chanism in the back?” Jeffrey murmured to himself, utterly perplexed.

“Perhaps the range of the field is too large, and the electrons sensed the fluctuations of the magic power, thus choosing to explore!” Sanchez speculated again. “It might also be possible that the particles initially passed through the slit in a probabilistic wave form, only to collapse back into a particle state after entering the range of the field!”

“How is that possible?” Jeffrey said, frowning. “If it were still in the form of a probability wave while passing through the slit, interference would have already occurred, and there would be points of light deviating from the expected areas on the fluorescent screen…”

The other arch-wizards nodded in agreent, aning there was only one possibility: the electron had made its choice the mont it passed through the slit!

Jeffrey was extrely certain but reluctant to believe this guess, so he moved the detection field back by one centiter.

Just as the magic field had just disengaged from the surface of the detection screen, a series of conspicuous bright dots appeared outside the two spots where the light fell, signifying that the electrons’ path was once again subject to interference.

This discovery caused Jeffrey and the others to feel a tremor in their minds, a chill rising up their spines; the electron had indeed sensed in that instant that its path would not be detected, and thus transford from a definite particle back into a probability wave…

“Why… Why does it know whether we have set up a magic detection field behind the slit?” Jeffrey murmured to himself, his face extrely unsightly.

“Is it possible that it saw the perception field at the front through the slit?”

To them, the magic field capable of detecting electromagnetic fields might be invisible, but for the electrons, it could be equivalent to a huge solid wall. Consequently, the mont they were fired from the electron gun, they would have seen the perception field ahead, leading to an imdiate change.

This speculation was undoubtedly far-fetched, suggesting not only that electrons have consciousness and can detect their observation but also so degree of vision.

“Impossible, Chairman Lynn has already tested this. If we simply create a magic field without choosing to observe, electrons will still pass through both slits as probability waves and display interference patterns on the other side. Therefore, it couldn’t possibly be an issue with the perception field,” argued an arch-wizard from the particle faction.

“Are you suggesting that the electrons sohow anticipated our observation in advance, and that’s why they changed into a particle state ahead of ti? Is that what you an?” Sanchez exclaid irritably, a claim even more absurd than the notion that electrons possess perception!

Not only did this severely violate common sense, but it also defied causality!

Either electrons can see the future, or they had the power to alter the past!

“I’ve been saying all along, your thod is flawed, Jeffrey!” Alade mocked, convinced that the bizarre result was a clear indication of a grave problem in Jeffrey’s experintal design!

“Then you do it, you try!” Jeffrey stepped aside, watching Alade with a scoff, curious to see what the other could co up with.

“My approach is actually very simple…” Alade cleared his throat, and amidst everyone’s gaze, he took out a box that was over half a ter tall!

“What’s this?” Sanchez imdiately thought of sothing.

“Do you still rember Professor Lynn’s Quantum Cat?” Alade said with prideful laughter.

“You an that conceptual cat that exists between life and death?” Jeffrey’s face twitched involuntarily, for he certainly hadn’t forgotten that bizarre thought experint.

Although Lynn had rely proposed the concept and hadn’t actually put it into practice, the mory was still fresh in his mind.

“Exactly, this is the device I adapted from Chairman Lynn’s cage for imprisoning the Quantum Cat. I specifically asked Chairman Vittorio to solidify a magic inside it that could monitor the electron’s trajectory, and its switch operates completely at random!”

Jeffrey’s eyes suddenly brightened, and the look of dissatisfaction on his face diminished considerably.

Now, it wasn’t just the electrons; even they didn’t know when the instruntation for recording the electron paths would activate or deactivate.

Sanchez even suggested that they make the path long enough, twisted enough, to further impact the electron’s ability to make decisions.

Alade gladly accepted this suggestion and began a new round of experints with full confidence, determined to unlock the secrets of microscopic particle trajectories!

Half an hour later, the experint was undeniably a resounding success!

Nine out of the fifteen Great Wizards present went utterly mad!

Such a significant experintal accident naturally caused an imdiate commotion among the council.

However, what also exploded in the wizarding circles along with the delayed choice double-slit interference experint was the theory of relativity that Lynn had just published.

It contained four formulas—the formula for relative velocity, relative length, relative mass, and relative ti.

And two of the most central theories.

The first was the principle of relativity: all inertial reference fras are equal, aning the form of physical laws is the sa in any inertial reference fra.

This theory was sowhat mind-bending but not incomprehensible. Lynn had ntioned it when discussing planetary theory, that all motion is relative, rely differing by the reference fra.

This ti it was rely an extension: no inertial reference fra is superior to any other, and they are all equal.

The second was the constancy of the speed of light principle—the speed of light in a vacuum is always a fixed value in any reference fra!

“Ridiculous! How could the speed of light possibly be constant!” an optical researcher council mber couldn’t help but slam the manuscript down on the table.

He had thought the quantum probability wave from the Star of Magic was outrageous enough. He didn’t expect that now the other party had proposed an even more preposterous constant speed of light theory.

A simple thought experint would suffice. If two people released laser beams back to back, using one of the laser beams as a reference fra, then the speed of the other laser would necessarily be receding at twice the speed of light!

This was also consistent with Lynn’s own theory of reference fras.

Yet according to the constancy of the speed of light principle, from any perspective, the speed of light is always three hundred thousand kiloters per second, with no change whatsoever!

And those relative formulas also considered the length and mass of objects as variable values. For example, if a stick is three centiters long and one kilogram in weight at rest, but if it starts to move, then its length and mass will change as well.

The length will shorten as the relative velocity increases, the mass will grow as speed increases, and even ti will slow down with increasing speed, with all these changes reaching their maximum threshold at the speed of light!

“By this argunt, there’s nothing definite in the entire world anymore; mass and length would change, then what is the eternal and unchanging truth? What’s the point of the developnt of magical studies?” the council mber bellowed.

In the research lab, the other Great Wizards who had received the manuscript on the theory of relativity also couldn’t accept such a strange theory, and they all began to speak out.

“Where is Chairman Lynn now? Is he still in the capital?” “I demand that an academic conference be convened right now!” “It is simply unimaginable that such a thing could have been written by the Star of Magic, this quantum relativity is completely a product of contradictions…”
