Seeing his daughter so excited, Astrachior could not help but smile wryly inside.
Those involved were blind, while outsiders saw clearly. His daughter had gone straight into a dead end and never co back out. Even now, she stubbornly believed Shadowcaster and Zayne were two different people.
Silly girl.
Astrachior sighed quietly. He gently rubbed Nia’s head, his tone soft and patient, like he was coaxing a child.
"Nia, you have good taste. This Shadowcaster really is an outstanding young man."
"But taking in a disciple is no small matter. It requires careful consideration. How about this. Let Shadowcaster co with to a certain place. I will test him. If he passes, I will take him as my disciple when we return. How does that sound?"
Nia’s eyes lit up instantly.
"Really? That’s great!"
Finally getting what she wanted and proving her beloved right, Nia was so happy she could hardly contain herself.
Watching her excitent, Zayne rubbed his nose and gave an awkward chuckle, not knowing what kind of expression he was supposed to make. What kind of ss was this supposed to be?
"Go rest for now. I want to talk with Shadowcaster for a bit," Astrachior said with a smile.
"Okay."
Nia sneaked a glance at Zayne. When she noticed that his gaze was not on her at all, she puffed up her cheeks and stord back to her room.
Thinking back on her two encounters with Shadowcaster, the first ti her clothes had been burned to rags and she was utterly miserable. The second ti she was wearing a tight combat outfit ant for convenience, not style. Not once had she been properly dressed.
She had already made up her mind. She was going to take a bath, put on a beautiful outfit, and properly stun Shadowcaster.
After Nia left, Astrachior glanced at the silent Zayne and asked calmly.
"Are you not curious why I did not let you reveal your identity in front of Nia?"
"If you did it that way, then you must have your reasons," Zayne replied evenly.
Astrachior smiled faintly, took a sip of tea, and explained.
"Although this was a coincidence, it is not necessarily a bad thing. Think about it. You appeared before the investigators as Shadowcaster, and you will also appear at the Gate of Apocalypse. Does that not perfectly eliminate Zayne as a suspect?"
Zayne nodded and continued.
"That way, Zayne never appears at the Gate of Apocalypse at all. I can go all out as Shadowcaster."
And if Shadowcaster disappeared inside the Gate of Apocalypse, that would not matter either. No one would care, since that identity was fake to begin with.
If Zayne disappeared instead, alive or dead with no trace, Astrachior would also be completely free of suspicion, because he would have a solid alibi.
Zayne had a strong feeling that if Astrachior truly had plans involving him, he would make his move at the Gate of Apocalypse.
"It is good that you understand," Astrachior said with a smile, nodding. "We leave the day after tomorrow. Before that, make sure everything is arranged under Zayne’s identity."
"Alright. Then I will go rest now, teacher."
Zayne turned and returned to his room.
Astrachior’s strength was unfathomable. One could never be too careful. He needed to prepare early.
Back in his room, Zayne put on the Moonlight Necklace and removed the Heavenly Thunder Ring.
Although the Heavenly Thunder Ring boosted lightning skills, its spirit bonus was only fifteen percent. Overall, it could not compare to the Moonlight Necklace.
After changing equipnt, Zayne took out the one thousand Refinent Stones.
Before heading to the Gate of Apocalypse, he needed to strengthen himself as much as possible.
Refinent Stones could reroll equipnt attributes, with a maximum of nine stars. Each additional star brought a massive increase in power.
After so thought, Zayne used the first Refinent Stone on the Singularity Ring.
The Singularity Ring was currently his only legendary piece of equipnt. Using Refinent Stones on it was clearly the best value.
Holding the Refinent Stone, Zayne slowly brought it close to the Singularity Ring.
The Refinent Stone began to glow faintly in his hand, like a tiny star.
He gently pressed it against the Singularity Ring. A mysterious force surged instantly.
The Singularity Ring seed to respond, trembling slightly as its light grew brighter.
But in the next mont, the glow dimd abruptly. The Refinent Stone shattered into碎 fragnts across the floor.
The refinent had failed.
Zayne was not discouraged. He imdiately took out the second Refinent Stone.
The success rate of refinent was low to begin with. Otherwise, the world would be filled with nine star equipnt.
After more than a hundred Refinent Stones shattered in succession, a dazzling burst of light finally appeared.
Within the light, the Singularity Ring trembled violently. The patterns on its surface beca more intricate and refined.
As the brilliance faded, the Singularity Ring looked completely renewed.
The patterns were sharper and more delicate, light flowing across the surface as if it contained endless mystery.
Zayne quickly checked its attributes.
Singularity Ring
Rarity Legendary
Effect Spirit Power increased by 120 percent
Current Refinent Level One Star
Skill One Singularity Conversion
Allows the wearer to absorb energy based attacks into the Singularity Ring and convert them into temporary spirit power.
Skill Two Singularity Space
Allows the wearer to open the Singularity Ring storage space. The size scales with the wearer’s spirit power.
A flash of delight crossed Zayne’s eyes. Just one star had added a full twenty percent spirit bonus. That was equivalent to wearing an extra high tier item.
High tier equipnt usually only provided around twenty percent spirit bonus.
Having tasted success, Zayne beca even more determined. He continued slamming Refinent Stones into the Singularity Ring without hesitation.
But it seed that refining to one star had used up all his luck. After burning through seven or eight hundred Refinent Stones, every single attempt failed.
"Damn, is this rate really that bad?"
Zayne’s scalp tingled. Was he actually cursed with terrible luck?
Higher tier equipnt was harder to refine, but failing seven or eight hundred tis in a row was ridiculous.
At this point, he had just over a hundred Refinent Stones left.
He hesitated. Should he keep going on the Singularity Ring, or switch to the Raging Fla Staff?
At that mont, a hypnotic voice echoed in his mind.
The poorer you are, the more you have to go all in.
Third all in. Fourth all in. Fifth all in.
All in. All in. All in.
All in is wisdom.
Zayne clenched his teeth. Take the gamble. A bicycle could turn into a motorcycle.
If he stopped now, would not those seven or eight hundred Refinent Stones have been wasted for nothing?
He pressed all the remaining Refinent Stones onto the Singularity Ring without another word.
All in.
