Chapter 298: Chapter 212: An Unprecedented Evil Spirit
The entire courtyard showed no signs of sinister energy, appearing as normal as could be.
Qin Yuesheng couldn’t help but feel even more perplexed. Judging from the earlier situation, there was clearly something strange here. Could there be some secret that even the Exorcism Toad could not detect?
Thinking this, Qin Yuesheng swiftly stepped across the rooftop to the place where he had just seen the three women. Before he had a chance to enter the courtyard, three figures suddenly ran out from inside. Qin Yuesheng focused his gaze and his expression changed; they were exactly the same three young girls from earlier.
How could they have escaped from this courtyard again?
To understand the situation, Qin Yuesheng landed directly and grabbed at the shoulder of one of the girls. With Qin Yuesheng’s current martial prowess, an ordinary person would not be able to escape his grasp.
But something strange happened. Qin Yuesheng’s hand grasped only air. He looked incredulously at his palm and at the girl who was running away.
Did I miss?
Qin Yuesheng was certain he had just grabbed the girl’s shoulder, but the result was as if he had grasped nothing but air, his hand passing straight through her body.
"Come back here!" Before he could think more, Qin Yuesheng used his Star-Picking Hand to try to pull the three girls back. Even martial artists with inner strength would be forced back under his Star-Picking Hand. Yet now it had no effect, and the three girls had already rounded a corner and disappeared from Qin Yuesheng’s sight.
"These three people, although I can see them, do not actually exist," Qin Yuesheng suddenly said.
With his inner strength using the Star-Picking Hand, even the highest peak in the world would have a large chunk torn off by him. If these three girls truly existed, even if Qin Yuesheng couldn’t pull them to him, he should at least be able to tear their clothes off.
There was only one reason for his failure, and that was because these three people did not exist in front of his eyes. What he saw was something akin to a mirage.
Understanding this, Qin Yuesheng no longer pursued them but instead directly entered the courtyard, intending to uncover what secrets were hidden within.
It was a very ordinary courtyard, but the slightly ajar door of a house caught Qin Yuesheng’s attention. Without hesitation, he drew the Black Dragon Sword and the Dragon-Slaying Sword from their sheaths on his back and pushed the door open.
With the night vision ability of the Biluo Eye, Qin Yuesheng could see the scene inside the house clearly even in the dim environment—rows of black wooden coffins gave off an eerie and frightening air.
Qin Yuesheng had just taken two steps in, intending to get closer to examine the coffins, when he felt a breeze brush past the hair on the back of his neck. Instantly alert, he turned his head to see a pair of withered hands covered in black hair, with nails black like hooks, reaching to strangle him.
"How daring!" Qin Yuesheng shouted sharply, striking out with both swords to clash fiercely with the claws.
Suddenly there was a flash of sword light, and two severed arms fell to the ground, without a drop of blood seen.
Qin Yuesheng looked at the face of the owner of those arms and saw an old woman with a rodent-like face, skin wrinkled like tree bark, gazing intently at him.
Those murky mouse-like eyes in her sockets shimmered with a faint light, full of malevolence.
Despite the loss of her arms, she remained fierce, swinging a whip silently from the side. Without even looking aside, Qin Yuesheng recognized it not as a whip but a thick rat tail.
"Huff!" Qin Yuesheng did not block with his sword but instead exhaled a large breath of turbid air from within, severing the monster rat’s tail instantly.
With a crisscrossing slashes of the two swords, the entity stood no resistance against Qin Yuesheng’s Divine Weapons and was slashed into several pieces in the blink of an eye.
There was no blood within the rodent-faced old woman, indicating she was merely a moving corpse attacking from the shadows.
"This place is strange, clearly someone killed a Mouse Spirit that had cultivated spiritual power and then turned it into a mindless corpse to cause harm," Qin Yuesheng said as he moved over to the coffins, sweeping them with his swords, sending coffin lids flying and breaking into countless pieces, revealing their contents.
Each contained a corpse, each killed in a different manner.
There was one entirely charred, obviously burned to death.
One had its limbs and torso separated, likely a victim of being torn apart by horses.
One was without skin, only dark red dried flesh remaining—skinned alive.
...
After examining so many coffins, Qin Yuesheng felt as if he had traversed the eighteen layers of hell, witnessing the punishment methods in each one.
"The perpetrator is truly cruel. A single cut would end a life in an instant, but these methods of dying surely brought about a tortuous and agonizing death," Qin Yuesheng murmured, as a yellow light shone from his right eye, beginning to scan the corpses.
The Yellow Springs lie beneath the underworld; if there really was an afterlife, it would be right next door. Qin Yuesheng’s Yellow Springs Eye had the power to manipulate the dead.
With a flash of the Yellow Springs Eye, the corpses within the coffins started to tremble, slowly crawling out. A regular person witnessing this would likely die of fright, but Qin Yuesheng remained unfazed, calm as ever.
"Ah!!!"
Yet, as the corpses were stiffly rising, a piercing scream echoed from an unknown location. Qin Yuesheng was immediately on alert, not anticipating that such an incident would occur from his unintended action.
