"Come out, Alolan Vulpix."

As Alolan Vulpix emerged from its Poké Ball, it saw its mother, the Alolan Niales, frozen forever within the massive block of ice. Tears welled up in its eyes and dripped onto the frozen ground, crystallizing instantly into tiny shards of ice.

It felt a longing that transcended time and space, as if the spirit of the Niales was reaching out to it from within the ice. Alolan Vulpix placed its small paw against the cold surface, pressing close to its mother.

Suddenly, the body of the Niales within the ice dissolved into shimmering stardust. A crown forged of pure, translucent ice materialized and settled atop Alolan Vulpix's head. Simultaneously, the vast reservoir of ice energy from the Niales surged into the little Vulpix.

A brilliant white light of evolution erupted.

"As expected," Feng Che murmured, watching the scene. "The Niales used every ounce of its remaining essence to assist its child. The Ice Crown will crown Vulpix as a sovereign of the frost. Though... it is a lonely path to walk."

Within the light, Vulpix felt its mother's warmth one last time. Its tail began to split and grow—seventh, eighth, and finally, ninth. Its body elongated, becoming sleek and elegant. By the time the moon hung high, a breathtakingly beautiful Alolan Niales stood before him.

Pokémon: Alolan Niales Gender: Female Potential: Epic (Cyan) Level: 55 Type: Ice / Fairy Ability: Snow Warning Skills: Blizzard, Ice Fang, Powder Snow, Baby-Doll Eyes, Crunch, Astonish, Protect, Ice Shard, Icy Wind, Confuse Ray, Draining Kiss, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, Aurora Beam, Moonblast, Misty Terrain, Dazzling Gleam, etc. Status: Excellent Evaluation: Inheritor of the Niales legacy. It possesses peerless control over ice and snow, capable of blanketing an entire city in a freezing mist where it can walk unseen.

The new Niales had fur the color of a pale winter sky, with its tails deepening into a richer blue where they met its body. Its mane was long and flowing, and its tails were magnificently fluffy. It possessed the ability to form ice shards from its fur for defense or cluster them into bullet-like projectiles powerful enough to pierce solid rock.

Alolan Niales lowered its head, nuzzling against Feng Che. He reached out, stroking its incredibly soft, silken fur.

"Niales, the path of a queen is often solitary, but I will be by your side until you are crowned the true sovereign of this world."

Death Island Volcano

The Turtonator fought valiantly against Elite Blaze, but it was ultimately outmatched. However, the turtle was cunning. I can't beat you, but I can certainly leave, it thought.

It erupted with a massive burst of flame, coating its entire body in fire as it prepared a Flame Charge aimed at Blaze's Arcanine and Magcargo.

"Its scales are standing on end! Arcanine, Magcargo, be careful!" Blaze shouted.

Turtonator slammed its tail into the ground, shattering the earth and sending pillars of fire roaring toward its opponents. As the fire obscured everything, Blaze commanded his Pokémon to use Protect.

The white barriers flickered as they braced for impact. "Hold on! Victory is right in front of us!" Blaze encouraged them.

But strangely, while the fire looked terrifying, the impact was weak. The pillars dissipated almost instantly upon hitting the shields. Arcanine and Magcargo looked at each other in confusion. Was that it?

They looked back at where the Turtonator had been. It was gone. The turtle waved a taunting claw from a distance before diving headfirst into a pool of boiling magma.

"Damn it! It tricked me!" Blaze roared, realized the "final stand" was just a distraction to cover its escape. Arcanine couldn't survive the magma, and Magcargo alone couldn't catch it. "Fine! Stay in your hole for now. I'll lay a

you can't escape eventually!"

On the Other Side of the Volcano

The Turtonator crawled out of a lava vent on the far side of the peak, scarred and exhausted from the battle. Just as it prepared to find a cave to recover, a Poké Ball bonked it on the nose.

[Turtonator: Are you kidding me? Who kicks a turtle when it's down?!]

The ball clicked shut.

"This Turtonator must be fuming," Feng Che laughed, picking up the ball. "Escaping an Elite only to fall into my lap. Blaze's loss is my gain."

During the night, Mewtwo worked like a busy squirrel, uprooting Eggant Berries and Snow Lilies and tossing them to Venusaur back at the Breeding House via psychic transport. Venusaur, acting like a frantic bee, used its vine whips to transplant everything into the new medicinal gardens. It was so overwhelmed with work that it actually realized a new skill: Substitute.

Now, one "Manager" Venusaur sat lazily in the sun, directing a dozen leafy clones to do the heavy lifting in the fields.

"Next, the treasure hidden in the depths," Feng Che said. His shadow suddenly elongated, revealing a pair of crimson, glowing eyes. It let out a dry, raspy chuckle, but by the time Mewtwo looked over, it had retreated back into a normal shadow.

"Mewtwo, let's go." They teleported deeper into the island's heart.

As they approached the center, the Pokémon they encountered reached Gym-level and Pseudo-Elite status. After driving off a pack of Manectric, they were blocked by a colony of Hippowdon and Dwebble.

Hippowdon are massive, tan hippos that spray sand from ports in their bodies to create sandstorms or even localized tornadoes. They have a symbiotic relationship with Dwebble; the little crabs clean the Hippowdon's ports of stuck stones, and in return, the Hippowdon lets them nest in its burrows for protection.

[Hippowdon Leader: Humans without the token are not permitted to pass. One more step and I will show no mercy.]

Hippowdon is a tanky Pokémon with a base stat total of 525, Feng Che thought. But I was hoping for a Flygon or a Garchomp as my Ground-type. Still, a fight is a fight. Go, Greninja and Gyarados!

The sky immediately darkened with clouds as Greninja emerged, and Gyarados's presence triggered a torrential downpour.

The League members in the distance noticed the change. "Look! A Red Gyarados! It's so rare!" "Wait, have you noticed the berries are disappearing? We just found an Eggant tree and now there's just a hole in the ground!"

The Hippowdon Leader grew furious at the rain. It sprayed high-speed sand from its ports, accidentally launching several Dwebble like living cannonballs. The crabs flailed in the air before being knocked out by the rain and falling to the sand.

Greninja met the sandstorm by manifesting a massive Water Shuriken. It grew in size until the frog hurled it at the Hippowdon pack.

[Hippowdon Leader: I was a member of the Sand Pirate Gang! I've seen bigger waves than this!]

The leader slammed its foot down, mixing the sand with the falling rain to create a massive Mudslide that surged toward Greninja. The shuriken tore through the mud, slicing trees in half like paper, but the mud was thick.

[Hippowdon Leader: Pleh! I hate the rain. Every time I open my mouth, it fills with water!]

Despite the discomfort, it let out a thunderous roar. All the Hippowdon sprayed more sand, creating a massive flood of mud that finally swallowed the Water Shuriken.

Click.

Greninja snapped its fingers. The shuriken detonated inside the mudflow, sending high-pressure debris flying back at the Hippowdon. But their hide was thick; the "bullets" were like a light massage.

[Hippowdon Leader: The rain is getting heavier. If we don't end this, my kin will be bogged down!]

The leader signaled a group Earthquake. The island began to shake violently. Greninja leaped onto Gyarados's back to stay clear of the tremors.

The League investigators scrambled out of their tents. "Earthquake! Is the volcano erupting? Look at the black smoke!"

They stared in horror as the peak began to belch thick, dark clouds.
