"As the saying goes, 'Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated,'" Sabrina said, her voice cool and professional.
"The intelligence here was gathered through Team Rocket's private channels. Boss Giovanni is currently planning to expand our influence in Johto. He intends to send Koga there to serve as one of the Elite Four. Koga's daughter, Janine, will take over as the Gym Leader of Fuchsia Gym. She is highly skilled and a loyal supporter of the organization."
Feng Che sat beside her, nodding thoughtfully as he absorbed the information.
The Gym Leader assessment is going to be tricky, Feng Che analyzed privately. My primary team—Corviknight, Incineroar, and Greninja—were seen by Hagen and Dorus. I can't let them on the stage. My Primal-atavism Aerodactyl is also off-limits since I don't have a League permit for it. Zeraora is about to give birth and risks being recognized by Team Plasma remnants.
That leaves me with: Ditto (as Arbok), Sirfetch'd, Venusaur, Gyarados, Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, and Scyther. Rowlet's narcolepsy is still a problem, and Deino isn't combat-ready yet.
Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, and Scyther are a bit weak for a Gym-level final. I need to find the right place to evolve them. I have to return to Death Island to evolve Alolan Vulpix and retrieve the treasure mentioned on that parchment.
And I need to check on the Breeding House. I wonder if that unreliable Golduck has caused any trouble...
Feng Che remembered his promise to find Golduck a "beautiful trainer." Now that he had Galar Slowking and Galar Slowbro to act as telepathic staff, Golduck was redundant. Taking advantage of Sabrina's brief absence, he used Teleport to slip away.
The Rainbow Breeding House
When Feng Che arrived, he found his business had been turned into a flower shop. A blue duck was busy handing meticulously wrapped bouquets to every beautiful woman who walked past.
Just as Golduck was attempting to charm a passerby, Salazzle appeared behind it. A quick Toxic Thread paralyzed the duck, and Salazzle used Power Whip to drag the twitching Casanova back inside.
"I really need to get rid of this duck," Feng Che sighed, recalling Golduck into its Poké Ball.
"Everyone, come out!" He released his new catches: Relicanth, Octillery, Lanturn, Mantine, and several high-potential Staryu. He arranged them in the estate's lake for now. Once the shop officially opened, he planned to build a massive floor-to-ceiling aquarium to attract customers.
Sabrina returned to find an empty room. Her brow furrowed with annoyance. She had spent hours lecturing, and he had the audacity to skip class? Sensing the spatial coordinates he had left behind, she used Teleport to give chase.
She materialized in what looked like an empty shop filled with flowers. As she looked closer, a slight blush crept onto her cheeks. Every bouquet had a card with incredibly sappy, "cheesy" pickup lines.
"Is this... for me?" Sabrina wondered, fidgeting with her fingers.
Feng Che walked out from the back and nearly jumped when he saw her. "Sabrina! You're here. Well, you know, even students need a break. I just came back to check on the shop."
He noticed her strange expression. She wasn't angry; she was staring at the flowers. Feng Che looked down and read the cards:
"The moon is in the sky, but you are in my heart." "I see you in my dreams, and they are sweeter for it."
"...Ahem. The Pokémon here prepared these while I was away," Feng Che coughed awkwardly. "If you like them, take as many as you want."
He made a mental note to murder the Golduck later. Is this something a normal duck does? He felt goosebumps just reading those lines. Even if he were confessing his feelings, he wouldn't use such outdated tropes.
"Oh. Well... remember to come back for your studies. We must secure the Viridian Gym," Sabrina said, regaining her composure.
Feng Che looked at Golduck's ball. Golduck isn't a Psychic-type, but it knows a lot of Psychic moves. Maybe I should give it to Sabrina? She's a beauty; maybe it'll behave for her.
"Wait, Sabrina!" Feng Che called out. "I have a Pokémon I'd like to entrust to you. It's not a Psychic-type, but it's a master of telekiics. It has... one quirk: it only listens to beautiful trainers. Its combat power increases by 200% when it likes its master."
Sabrina had intended to refuse, but hearing that the Pokémon "only liked beauties" made her agree almost instinctively. He's calling me a beauty, she thought, a spark of joy in her eyes.
"Very well. I accept."
"Great. It can be a bit... forward. If it oversteps, please don't hold back. Discipline it however you see fit," Feng Che said, releasing Golduck.
Golduck took one look at Sabrina. [Golduck: Face? 10/10. Legs? 10/10. Figure? 10/10. Jackpot!] The duck nodded its head frantically, eyes sparkling with hearts.
"I am your new trainer. Let's begin," Sabrina said, extending a hand. When Golduck's webbed hand touched her slender fingers, its heart nearly leaped out of its chest.
"Sabrina, I need to handle some things here. I'll be back in Saffron City to study tonight," Feng Che said.
"Fine." Sabrina nodded and teleported back to Saffron Gym with the duck.
Golduck's scenery changed instantly. It prepared to lunge for a celebratory "love hug," only to find itself frozen mid-air. Sabrina's hair floated slightly as a terrifying psychic pressure filled the room. She released her Alakazam.
"If you're going to be my Pokémon, you will be a warrior," she said coldly. "I don't care how Feng Che treated you, but in my Gym, there is no room for the weak. You will undergo the most rigorous training imaginable."
[Golduck: (⊙_⊙)... Where did the sweet lady go? This woman is a demon! Feng Che, save me!!]
Rainbow Breeding House
"Phew. The shop is almost ready for a grand opening," Feng Che mused. "I'll focus on selling rare Pokémon for now. My berry supply is still low, barely enough for my own team. Once Venusaur expands the orchards, I'll start selling high-grade Pokéblocks."
"But first... the Gym Leader exam. I'll open the shop officially once that's settled and the 'auspicious day' arrives."
