Chapter 578: Chapter 578: I am your neighbor now
Gu Zhixi’s hands and feet went weak with nerves, and she imdiately lowered her voice to Lu Qixi, “Miss Lu, could you do a favor?”
“Hmm?” Lu Qixi smiled and looked at her.
“Could you please take Xiaobao ho? I’ll co to pick him up later,” Zhixi hurriedly said, her peripheral vision catching the man’s figure drawing nearer, her heart almost leaping out of her chest in fright.
Seeing her nervous expression, Lu Qixi made up her mind in a second, “No problem, I really like Xiaobao.”
With that, she smiled and turned to the little guy, “Xiaobao, do you want to co to my place to play for a while?”
Xiaobao nodded enthusiastically, his face beaming with happiness.
Lu Qixi smiled and patted his head, then told Zhixi, “I live at number 17, just co to find later.”
Having said that, she pulled the scarf back up, put on her sunglasses, and left with Xiaobao in her arms.
Zhixi glanced apologetically at her son, only to see the boy, with a silly grin, hugging his idol, utterly unaware that his mother had abandoned him, not even giving Zhixi a single glance.
It made Zhixi feel a sense of loss.
As she watched Lu Qixi walk away with Xiaobao, she finally turned her gaze toward the man not far away.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks, one hand tucked into the pocket of his overcoat, his dark gaze fixed on her, its aning obscure.
Zhixi bit her lip, uncertain whether to wait for him to co closer or to turn around and leave.
But the man’s appearance here was no coincidence, after all, she and Xiaobao still had to live here for a while, and she didn’t know if he had seen her walking with Xiaobao earlier…
With that thought, she boldly walked up to him, forcing a smile, “Mr. He, what are you doing here?”
Her voice, however, was sowhat strained.
He Jingyao suddenly smiled, “Miss Gu doesn’t know? I am your neighbor now.”
Zhixi had a thunderstruck look, “Neighbor?”
“Mm,” he responded in a low voice, “I didn’t want to live in the old house anymore, so I bought a new one here, and what a coincidence… it’s right next to Miss Gu’s place.”
Haha, indeed, very coincidental…
Recalling the figure she had seen moving around in the yard next door, she felt a mix of emotions.
After four years, it turned out he had never given up.
He had made promises to her that, while they sounded unbelievable, he had fulfilled them all without ever breaking them, even though he thought she was dead.
Zhixi suddenly felt a burning sensation in her eyes.
It was precisely because he was too good that she must not be selfish.
“Mr. He… I…” She bit her lip, resolute, “Although I look very much like your wife, I am not your wife.”
As she uttered those words, she felt a sudden pain at the tip of her heart.
He Jingyao looked down at her and slowly curved his lips upward, “Of course, I know you’re not my wife. Has Miss Gu misunderstood sothing?”
Zhixi opened her mouth but was lost for words.
“I just saw Miss Gu here, so I ca over to say hello,” he said with a semblance of a smile, “Did you think I bought the place next to you on purpose for your sake, hmm?”
Gu Zhixi’s face flushed with heat.
Although she was very clear in her mind that this man had suddenly moved next door to her most likely because of her, he wouldn’t admit it, so what could she do?
She suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu… Yes, he was always like this, always doing so much for her but never willing to admit it. Even if she called him out on it, he’d turn it around and mock her for being delusional.
