Chapter 772: Chapter 385: Lord, This Is Too Insane – Part 3
They were colleagues of Nicholas, more or less, and had a certain understanding of his character. Aware that he was a clever man, they observed his actions closely while using the excuse of mustering troops and recruiting personnel.
Then they caught Nicholas returning ho, deducing that he absolutely knew sothing.
“This has nothing to do with you two, does it?” Nicholas said coolly.
“We are here to ask for your help,” Norris spoke directly.
“I can hardly save myself,” Nicholas remained unmoved.
The two didn’t say much else and handed Nicholas a backpack each.
Taking the backpacks, Nicholas inspected the contents within, raised an eyebrow, and said directly, “What do you want to know?”
“Is the Lord planning to abandon Fasal Village and leave?” Norris posed the question, having guessed as much from the fact that Nicholas was preparing to take his valuables with him.
Nicholas wasn’t surprised by the question and answered, “That’s what I speculate, but I can’t be certain.”
“You accepted a task from the Lord earlier and visited all the public buildings. You must have done sothing. Did you… use sothing to destroy these buildings, and the Lord doesn’t plan to leave any of them for Hope Village, right?”
“You’ve already guessed it, so why bother asking ?” Nicholas replied calmly, the two n having run operations in Fasal Village for many years, it was normal for them to guess as much.
“When the Lord leaves Fasal Village, will he take our families with him?” Worley suddenly asked.
Nicholas fell silent.
With a bitter smile, Worley said, “It seems the answer is quite clear. We’re dood if we go, and dood if we don’t.”
Watching the expressions on their faces, Nicholas said directly, “Going to kill that village chief might not an death for you and could even give you a chance to save your families.”
“What do you an?” Norris urgently asked.
“You’ve probably heard the rumors about Hope Village. Surrendering might be a good option,” Nicholas said straightforwardly.
“Why would you, who are preparing to leave with the Lord, advise us to surrender?” Worley looked at Nicholas with a hint of skepticism in his eyes.
“Because leaving with the Lord is safer, and helping you is like creating an extra way out for myself. If you succeed, it ans Hope Village is indeed a good place to seek shelter. I might inevitably co to rely on you in the future,” Nicholas explained candidly. “It’s all for self-interest, you understand, don’t you?”
“What about our families?” Worley and Norris pursed their lips.
“The Lord has placed Black Stone in the public buildings. It will explode upon contact with fire, destroying those buildings. The Lord is willing to blow up such buildings, what do you think he feels about the people in his territory?” Nicholas scoffed lightly. “Your only chance is to find a breakthrough with Hope Village, to prevent the Lord from blowing up the territory and give your families a chance to survive.”
Worley and Norris were stunned upon hearing this.
The Lord was indeed too mad!
If he couldn’t keep the territory, he intended to destroy it.
How many lives were at stake!
Furthermore, many had been with the Lord all the way.
Though as mbers of an aggressive territory’s military forces, they usually lacked a moral baseline, understanding that following the Lord led to good days, their actions were justifiable to ensure a better life.
But to sacrifice so many lives so thoughtlessly was truly monstrous and inhumane!
Of course, as beneficiaries, perhaps they would not accept or condemn this.
But now, they and their families were among those being sacrificed, and that was sothing they could not accept.
Seeing their shocked faces, Nicholas said, “This is just my speculation, maybe it’s not like that. If you truly can kill the Hope Village Chief and stop the combat, Fasal Village might still be saved. Even if the probability is small, it’s up to you to make a choice. Lastly, don’t look for anymore, talking for too long will arouse the Lord’s suspicion, and I don’t want to be dragged down by you two.”
At least, he was soone still of use.
The Lord would likely take him away.
Having said this, Nicholas left straight away.
The two stood still for a long ti, unable to recover.
After a mont, once they regained their composure, they pressed the conversation deep into their hearts and followed behind Nicholas.
All along the way, they continuously pondered over Nicholas’s words.
What choice should they make???
