"How is that possible? You must not have searched thoroughly. I am certain she’s harboring a large amount of drugs. Don’t be fooled by her innocent appearance; in reality, she’s duplicitous. She’s no good, and you all have been deceived by her..." Lu Xiangxiang reacted vehently as if she refused to believe the outco, desperately trying to throw mud at Xu Xiuxiu.
She was well aware that this was her last chance, and if she couldn’t harm Xu Xiuxiu in the slightest now, she would never have the opportunity again. But she forgot that in her current wretched state, looking every part the addict, paled in comparison to Xu Xiuxiu, who appeared impeccable in every way. The scales of judgent in anyone’s mind would naturally tip in Xu Xiuxiu’s favor.
Xu Xiuxiu watched Lu Xiangxiang with cold eyes as she made a spectacle of herself, then she opened the door that had almost closed, approached Lu Xiangxiang with asured steps, and without Lu Xiangxiang realizing what was happening, Xu Xiuxiu lifted her hand and slapped her across the face.
The slap echoed crisply.
Lu Xiangxiang’s gaunt, yellowed cheek swelled red from the impact. Everyone present was stunned by Xu Xiuxiu’s swift and decisive presence, especially the young police officer. His impression of Xu Xiuxiu had been especially honorable, almost feeling Xu Xiuxiu was different from the brazen military wives in his mory, but at that mont, seeing Xu Xiuxiu slap Lu Xiangxiang without hesitation, he suddenly realized that all military wives were the sa—unapologetically bold.
"You hit ?" Lu Xiangxiang, bewildered, touched her cheek and looked at Xu Xiuxiu.
"Yes, I hit you, Lu Xiangxiang. You made the anonymous tip-off call, didn’t you? And you even knew about the large stash of drugs at my ho? Who are you? How do you know so much? Co on then, tell , where did these drugs co from if you’re so sure my ho harbors them? Since you know I’ve hidden drugs, you must also know where I got them from. Tell in front of these officers," Xu Xiuxiu’s questions were almost rhetorical, even her gaze held a fierce intensity as she spoke to Lu Xiangxiang.
Truth be told, Xu Xiuxiu had not been this angry in a long ti. Although the incident seed to resolve easily, only Xu Xiuxiu herself knew the fear in her heart at that mont. If not for the Little Huang Family, she may have fallen for Lu Xiangxiang’s trap.
"So what if I made the call? I definitely saw you hiding a massive half-jin of drugs. What’s wrong with reporting you? Officers, you must arrest her. She’s no good, and you can’t let her continue to throw her weight around," Lu Xiangxiang said confidently and then tried to persuade the officers with a convincing expression.
Stupid! Total idiot!
Xu Xiuxiu was truly furious and, once again, slapped Lu Xiangxiang, catching her off guard. Clearly, Lu Xiangxiang never thought that Xu Xiuxiu would ever lose her cool, always dismissing her with a disdainful look, thinking Xu Xiuxiu too collected to bother with her squabbles. Yet, this composed Xu Xiuxiu could also have such a fiery outburst.
Xu Xiuxiu did not want to waste her energy on anger, but the thought of Lu Xiangxiang potentially causing her death and affecting Song Yuanhuan’s future was too much to bear. The tip-off call might seem over now, but if she were arrested, things would beco extrely complicated. Every ti she imagined that outco, she felt a surge of rage, wanting to throttle Lu Xiangxiang—solely because Lu Xiangxiang was so damn aggravating.
"Officers, this person is ntally unstable, from Z city in F province. You’re probably aware of the recent stringent crackdown on nurous officials involved in drug cases in Z city. Furthermore, she falsely reported and besmirched my reputation. I believe I have the right to demand her arrest or detention on charges of slander," Xu Xiuxiu declared with a firm and unwavering stance.
Xu Xiuxiu’s words were solely based on what Lu Xiangxiang had previously told her. She wasn’t sure if it would be useful, but given the magnitude of the scandals in Z city that Lu Xiangxiang ntioned, the officers might have caught wind of it and her words might have so weight.
Indeed, that was the case. The officers had co because of the nurous officials brought down in Z city after the anonymous tip. Now, hearing what Xu Xiuxiu said and seeing Lu Xiangxiang looking every bit the addict, they all began to calculate in their minds.
"I think you need to co with us," old police officer Chao was the first to step forward and address Lu Xiangxiang.
Lu Xiangxiang was dumbfounded, completely unprepared for the situation to turn on her. She was stunned and then turned to run, clearly not remaining calm, but the officers were trained, and the younger ones especially agile. The young officer quickly caught Lu Xiangxiang.
"Let go of ! You can’t arrest ! On what grounds are you arresting ? Xu Xiuxiu is the one harboring drugs, and instead, you’re arresting , the one who made the ritorious report..." Lu Xiangxiang struggled, shouting indignantly and frustratingly. Perhaps it was at this mont that her thoughts cleared and she began to say things in her defense, but the very fact she tried to run had betrayed her.
"If you’re innocent, why run? We just want your cooperation," the young officer retorted coldly while restraining Lu Xiangxiang.
He instinctively felt that the woman he was holding was definitely problematic and didn’t dare to be negligent, handcuffing her arms behind her back and then forcibly pressing her against the cold wall in the hallway, "Stay put."
"You’re all going to arrest ; of course, I’m scared and, of course, I would run." Lu Xiangxiang argued back.
"Those who do nothing wrong, fear not the knock at midnight," the young officer sneered.
"Let’s discuss this further at the station. If you’re innocent, no harm will co to you," old police officer Chao nodded to the younger one, then turned to Xu Xiuxiu, "We apologize for the disturbance today. We will take the individual who made the anonymous call away for now. If there is anything we need your cooperation with later on, we hope you can assist."
"Of course," Xu Xiuxiu readily agreed, feeling sowhat relieved in her heart watching Lu Xiangxiang being taken away.
In fact, knowing that Lu Xiangxiang was involved in drugs, she had never thought of reporting her. She didn’t want to be involved in any of it, but Lu Xiangxiang was just too damn oblivious to courtesy. As ti passed, Xu Xiuxiu thought she might not be so bad after all, but it proved that so people, even given the chance to improve, would still fall from grace.
