After defeating the two most dangerous monsters in the demon army, the tide of the battle finally began to turn in our favor.
The dozens of remaining minotaurs were slowed down as they crossed over the corpses of the giant monsters, and, thanks to our individual strength, we were able to maintain the upper hand in the smaller skirmishes.
‘Just a few more minutes, and this event will be over….’
As I carefully conserved the remaining half of my mana, systematically slaughtering the approaching minotaurs one by one, a demon with a distinctly humanoid shape and large wings appeared in the sky.
“So, you’re the ones slowing down the cyclopes?” she sneered, hovering above us with massive bat-like wings and crimson hair fluttering in the wind.
“Master Ethan, be careful. I believe this one’s exceptionally strong.”
She was Noctis, one of the Four Demon Kings, later known as the “Queen of Wrath.”
“Indeed, her aura is quite sothing.”
“Hmph, but you don’t look that strong yourselves. How did you manage to bring down those cyclopes?”
“…….”
“Well, no matter. I don’t really care to hear your answer anyway. I can guess what kind of inferior attacks your kind must have used.”
Hovering with a slow flap of her wings, Noctis looked down on us.
Though her presence was certainly intense, and she was supposed to be an invincible enemy, honestly, her words didn’t fully reach . Her appearance—particularly her attire—was more distracting than nacing. Her only semblance of clothing was a black shadow covering her from her chest to her thighs, like a black sticker haphazardly placed to cover private areas. It was… more risqué than intimidating.
“Succubus?”
“…What?”
“With an outfit like that, aren’t you a succubus?”
“How dare….”
“…?”
“You dare compare , Noctis, to such a lowly species?!”
A sharp beam of black energy shot from her fingertips in fury, aid directly at Silena, who had absentmindedly made the remark.
“Silena, watch out!”
At the last mont, Gedralt pulled Silena aside, shielding her from the deadly blast.
–Boom!
“What was that?!”
“What kind of power….”
As Noctis’ beam struck the ground, it erupted in a massive explosion, leaving a crater large enough for several people to stand in. It was more than just a simple blast; it annihilated everything in its radius, a spell potent enough to kill instantly if struck directly.
“You dare to compare , the proud Queen of the Kirote race, to so vile prostitute?”
–Zap! Zap! Zap!
“Silena! Run!”
“Hero…!”
“Master Ethan, get back!”
“Lilith!!”
In her rage, Noctis unleashed beams wildly in every direction, forcing the four of us to dodge for our lives. Each strike was powerful enough to kill or leave permanent injuries even if it only grazed us.
‘So far, this is just like the cutscene in the original. And soon….’
As we scrambled, ducking and rolling to avoid the deadly barrage, Silena suddenly twisted her ankle and fell onto the ground.
“Ugh!”
–Thud!
“Silena!”
“To think that an insignificant race of forest-dwelling elves would dare insult … the Queen of the Kirote…”
“Ugh, ah…!”
“For your insolence, you will pay with your life, foolish girl!”
–Zap!
“Silenaaaa!”
Noctis aid another beam at the defenseless Silena. Gedralt rushed forward, sword in hand, to block the attack.
Though it seed impossible to avoid, I wasn’t worried. This crisis, too, was almost identical to the original cutscene I had seen.
–Sizzle.
“What…?”
“…Hero?”
“Haah… haah….”
Gedralt managed to deflect the beam with his sword, shielding Silena. Noctis looked genuinely shocked as the energy ricocheted off the blade, despite its destructive power.
“What…?! How can a human block my annihilation beam…?”
“…Maybe it just happened to hit a part of the blade where it could deflect.”
“Don’t be ridiculous! A re Sword Expert shouldn’t be capable of a technique that even a Sword Master would struggle with!”
“I’m surprised myself. Maybe I just got ‘lucky’ this ti.”
Gedralt responded with a confident smirk, delivering the exact lines from the original cutscene. Noctis continued to unleash her relentless attacks, but each ti, Gedralt’s sword miraculously deflected the beams or they missed entirely, never coming close to hitting him or Silena.
“Why?! Why aren’t my attacks hitting?!”
Realizing sothing was amiss, Noctis grew increasingly flustered, firing repeatedly, only for each attempt to miss. By this ti, a figure with blue hair approached from beside , calmly striding toward Noctis.
“…Enough.”
“…Huh?”
“Stop harming my companions.”
“…….”
“…….”
“…The blue-haired princess… So, it’s you.”
Despite her usual silence, Princess Rainy walked forward with a determined look, her voice ringing out clearly, drawing all of our attention. It was the first ti any of us, even Silena and Ethan, had heard her speak.
“A princess with such confidence… but at most, it’s just a bit of newfound luck, isn’t it?!”
–Zap!
“Move, everyone!”
“Princess Rainy!”
Noctis imdiately shifted her target to Rainy, firing a deadly beam directly at her.
However, the beam “accidentally” struck the brooch hanging from Rainy’s neck and ricocheted harmlessly away.
–Ping! Ping! Ping!
“What… No, damn it!!”
The beam veered off Rainy’s brooch, struck my dagger, then deflected off Ethan’s dual blades before finally reversing direction back toward Noctis. Too slow to react, Noctis was unable to avoid the attack, and it struck the tip of her right wing, engulfing her in an explosion.
“Gyaaaa!!”
–Boom!
“You said it was just ‘a bit of luck,’ didn’t you?”
“Grr… ngh….”
“If that’s really all it is, feel free to try again. Who knows, maybe this ti your luck will run out.”
“You… wretched…!”
Rainy stepped forward with a confidence that was almost unrecognizable, her usual reserved deanor replaced by an air of authority. Noctis, sensing that her luck was failing her, finally seed to understand the magnitude of Rainy’s overwhelming fortune.
“Damn it… if I had only arrived a little earlier, I could have killed you….”
“Indeed, bad luck for you, Demon Succubus.”
“Unforgivable! I won’t let you insult like that!”
“So, what will you do? Try attacking again?”
“…Damn it! Next ti, I’ll kill you for sure!”
Realizing she was outmatched, Noctis retreated, her fury subdued by Rainy’s unshakeable resolve. Though she bore the title “Queen of Wrath,” Noctis was not so foolish as to fight a losing battle without restraint. She knew that sotis true wrath ant knowing when to rein it in.
“Retreat, now! Get moving, you fools!”
‘Grooo?’
‘Graaa…!’
“Quit whining and move! Staying here ans nothing but a pointless death!”
‘Grrooo….’
‘Grrraa….’
Reluctantly, the remaining minotaurs and demon soldiers followed Noctis’ command to retreat. Watching their backs as they fled, a small temptation flickered in my mind.
‘…If I hit them with a mana blast now, I’d rake in a mountain of experience.’
