Ye Xiu nodded frantically, "I’ll cooperate, I will cooperate."

Her hands were trembling nonstop, and her entire being was thrown into disarray and pain by these words, uncertain of what to do.

"Alright, then let’s discuss how to go about this. Nan Jin also wants to see Bai Zhi—let’s arrange for him to see her first."

The elder sister imdiately spoke to Ye Xiu.

Ye Xiu stood up, ready to be taken to make arrangents when she suddenly stopped.

"Xingxing, it wasn’t my intention to hurt you. Can you... can you forgive ...?"

Perhaps knowing she had no right to say so, she didn’t finish her sentence. Or maybe she felt that saying half would prompt Bai Zhi to continue the rest.

"Although I don’t know what you were thinking when you said that, you should understand sothing—I can’t possibly forgive you. So things, once done, cannot be undone, not to ntion the suggestion of such things.

That ans such a thought once crossed your mind. Also, if you break a bowl and it shatters into pieces, can you restore it to its original state?"

For Ye Xiu, she was here rely because, as a daughter, she felt obliged to co.

As for what would happen to Ye Xiu in the future, it really didn’t matter much to her.

"I understand..." Ye Xiu nodded and followed along.

How could she not understand? Yet, deep down, she selfishly hoped for that tiny bit of alternative hope.

Hoping her daughter could forgive her.

Looking back now, she truly was the epito of selfishness, utterly shaless.

Otherwise, why would she harbor such thoughts?

"Xingxing, I’m sorry."

I’m sorry for the pain I’ve caused you over and over again.

I’m sorry I couldn’t suppress the sinister thoughts in my heart, letting you get hurt ti and again.

You’re right. Whether I was hypnotized or not isn’t important. What’s important is, I didn’t suppress those bad thoughts.

I’m the mother; I should have kept them at bay. I should have...

...

Nan Jin now bore no resemblance to the modest gentleman he once seed.

His hair was particularly greasy, his complexion poor, and he looked haggard, with many more wrinkles than before.

Compared to the Nan Jin who used to look like he had everything under control, it was like heaven and earth.

"Bai Zhi, long ti no see."

Nan Jin almost gritted his teeth as he said these words, though he smiled, his eyes were devoid of any rrint.

His smile was all facade, hiding true emotion.

"Uncle Nan, I’m quite puzzled. We have no relationship. Why did you think of seeing ?"

Bai Zhi spoke to Nan Jin with a slight trace of confusion.

Nan Jin had never truly paid attention to Bai Zhi before—just a child, in his eyes, easily pacified with so trinket or another.

But all his well-laid plans had co to naught because of her.

"I want to reconcile with you, Bai Zhi. You’re a smart kid; I think there’s no need for beating around the bush. What do you think?"

Nan Jin used to think about cajoling, but now there was no need for that, for Bai Zhi could not be cajoled.

It was better to be frank.

"Of course, Uncle Nan, speak plainly so we can properly discuss," Bai Zhi said with a light smile, looking him directly in the eyes.

Nan Jin looked coldly straight back at Bai Zhi.

"What do you want in order to let and your mother out? I can satisfy any demand... Actually, you’re fine, aren’t you? We can resolve this amicably, don’t you agree?"

Nan Jin couldn’t afford to drag this out any longer; he had to find a solution.

Even if he was loath to bow his head to Bai Zhi, he had no choice.

"That’s troubleso, but I don’t need anything. Uncle Nan Jin, you seem like such a good person. But to have the heart to... to drug soone—I’m truly afraid, so... I don’t want to reconcile,"

Reconciliation, just like that—is he dreaming?

Nan Jin was seething inside, yet he couldn’t say as much aloud; he had to back down.

"I’m sincere, Bai Zhi. I will show you my sincerity. You know my business needs , and your mother’s school too—they need us. You’re a good kid, you can understand that, right?"

Bai Zhi’s mouth twitched, "Can’t."

Nan Jin, "..."

After all this, he still couldn’t.

"What do you want, then?"

Nan Jin clenched his teeth; this Bai Zhi really had so nerve to reject face given.

"I don’t want anything, oh, I just think Uncle Nan, you aren’t being sincere. Why don’t we have a good talk about what you were really thinking back then?"

Since he wanted to reconcile, he should show a conciliatory attitude; otherwise, how could they even talk?

Nan Jin’s mouth stiffened, and then he forced a smile.

"At that ti, I just thought to believe in so feudal superstitions for once."

Bai Zhi’s hands were on the table, casually tapping and playing with it. After a couple of taps, she looked at her hands and laughed.

"Uncle Nan, that’s sothing my mom would believe. Did Uncle Nan have dinner?"

Bai Zhi’s gaze stayed on her hands, not wanting to look at Nan Jin at all.

"I did."

Bai Zhi found tapping the table amusing, smiled at the corners of her mouth, and tapped so more.

"Uncle Nan, do you really want to get out of here?"

"Of course."

Bai Zhi tapped the table twice more. "The weather is quite nice today, isn’t it?"

Nan Jin was already getting impatient; what was Bai Zhi up to?

"Mhm."

Bai Zhi continued to talk about several irrelevant topics.

Nan Jin was already getting agitated—was Bai Zhi toying with him?

"Bai Zhi, are you going to talk seriously or not?"

The corner of Bai Zhi’s mouth curled up slightly, "You’re looking into Bai Da’s hypnosis ’incident,’ aren’t you?"

"How did you know?" Nan Jin blurted out.

Then he realized what he had done and imdiately covered his mouth.

At that mont, the policewoman walked in.

"Let’s talk, what exactly is going on?"

Only then did Nan Jin see the light and pointed at Bai Zhi’s hand.

"Bai Zhi, you’ve sched against ."

Bai Zhi’s mouth broke into a big smile, "Uncle Nan, I’m certainly not the kind to sche against others."

It was just a bit of psychological suggestion, after all. Each ti she knocked on the table served a purpose, and this was the only trick Bai Zhi knew, all thanks to a news story she once watched.

The news headline was quite interesting: Introducing a girlfriend to a brother and he ends up using psychological manipulation.

She clicked into the story and discovered the so-called thod of psychological manipulation.

So she thought she’d give it a try today. After all, not many people knew about psychological manipulation nowadays.

It should be quite easy to succeed, and indeed it was.

So it pays to keep up to date with the news.

"And you might be disappointed, the supposed sleep-inducing effect of your concoction was identified. I was just supposed to fall asleep and never wake up, right?"

Bai Zhi’s smile lingered, but her eyes carried a chill.

"So I say, Uncle Nan, if you want to do shaless deeds, don’t pretend to be respectable."

Everyone was dumbfounded by Bai Zhi’s words, not sure what to make of them. Why did that sentence sound so odd?

"What do you an by that, Bai Zhi? Can you explain?" The policewoman was very curious, extrely so.

"He had countless opportunities to dig up my family’s yard before, but out of pride, he felt he needed to marry into my house before living there. Then I ca back, naturally reluctant, and you’d say, isn’t it just because, he wanted to do sothing shaless, yet still wanted to maintain face, and as a result, his plan backfired?"
