There is no first in literature, no second in martial arts. Once Li Xing’s prey appeared, the outco was imdiately evident. Tang Dou blushed and put away his Six-Winged Mantis.
Seeing her goal achieved, Li Xing also stored her Snake-tailed Tiger Beast, smiling as she was about to ease the atmosphere with Tang Dou. Suddenly, her expression changed, she turned her head to look southeast, and at the sa ti, her Divine Sense shot out like a rainbow.
Oh no!
Li Xing shouted, "Everyone, Level One Alert!"
With a swift motion, she drew her Heavenly Wolf Saber and faced the southeast with a tense expression, assuming a defensive posture.
The students, including Tang Dou, were bewildered. The surroundings were so quiet that not even a bird was in sight, so why the Level One Alert?
"All Earth and Water Elents, imdiately construct defensive fortifications as fast as you can, as sturdy as possible! tal and Fire Elents, follow to resist the enemy, Wood Elent, fill in positions! Also, whoever is free, quickly send a distress signal to the teachers!"
Seeing everyone staring at her blankly, Li Xing got really anxious, slashing the ground near Tang Dou’s feet, and shouted angrily, "Are you all deaf? If you want to live, do as I say!"
Just as Li Xing understood Tang Dou, Tang Dou also understood her. Li Xing was truly angry now; perhaps sothing big was indeed about to happen?
"Earth City, rise—!" Without ti to think, Tang Dou summoned his Elental Power, and solid earth walls rose up.
With Tang Dou taking the lead, all the students began to act. Earth Elentals manipulated earth elents to build walls, Wood Elentals helped remove obstructive roots and thorns, and also integrated vine plants into the walls to fortify them, while Water Elentals helped make cent.
Wall after earth wall rose from the ground, and the defensive fortress began to take shape.
While the rear was busy with construction, the students standing with Li Xing at the front line finally noticed sothing unusual.
"Look quickly, what’s that in the sky?"
In the southeast, a massive dark cloud floated in low altitude, which upon closer inspection, was actually a cloud of countless Flying Star Beasts. The cloud was densely packed with blood-red eyes, making one’s scalp tingle.
"It’s Wolf-headed Bats!"
So sharp-eyed students recognized the overwhelming swarm flying towards them as none other than the Star Beasts known as Wolf-headed Bats. The Wolf-headed Bat has several red stripes on its forehead, a mark that indicates its level among Star Beasts.
"They are all Level Five! Oh my, there are Level Six too!"
Star Beasts above Level Five are categorized as mid-tier, which for students of a basic school, mid-tier Star Beasts are like questions beyond their level, let alone such a large group.
Tang Dou’s face changed drastically, urging other Earth and Water Elents to hurry up, tirelessly pushing his Primordial Spirit to build walls. There were over three thousand of them, so the shelter had to be large enough, which ant it couldn’t be completed in a short ti.
"Tang Douer! How much longer?"
"At least twenty minutes!"
Tang Dou’s eyes were red, expending his Primordial Spirit without reservation, but the shelter was too large, and his Primordial Spirit was quickly running out. Li Xing understood these kids’ fear. Level Five is the dividing line between low and mid-tier Star Beasts. Mid-tier Star Beast attacks are no longer limited to physical harm; they can manipulate Elental Power like humans.
Students who haven’t attended reservist school have no strength to combat mid-tier Star Beasts, let alone so many.
"Wolf-headed Bats may be Level Five Star Beasts, but they cannot control Elental Power; they can only attack with ultrasound, making them the weakest mid-tier Star Beasts."
Being intimidated before battle is a fatal flaw in military strategy. To boost morale, Li Xing labeled the enemy as the weakest opponent.
"Everyone, form a Wedge Formation; I’ll be the arrowhead, you take the flanks. Listen for my command. When I say attack, everyone launch Elental Attacks at full force without giving them a chance to react. The few in front at Level Six are mine; you focus on the Level Five group behind. Those with depleted Primordial Spirits fall back in the formation, and flank positions fill quickly."
Li Xing’s voice was clear, her tone calm and orderly, arranging the battle strategy neatly, greatly soothing the students’ anxious hearts.
Everyone swiftly ford the formation, with Li Xing standing at the forefront as the "arrowhead" under the most pressure.
The students all understood that at least half of the Wolf-headed Bat swarm’s attacks would fall on her.
Li Xing had no ti to attend to the emotions of her classmates, whom she shielded. She focused all her attention on the Wolf-headed Bat swarm.
Closer and closer, a hundred ters, fifty ters, twenty ters... The scarlet eyes of Wolf-headed Bats were long locked onto them, drool dripping from their fang-filled mouths, hideous and terrifying.
The Heavenly Wolf Saber, known for its bloodthirst, had drunk the blood of tens of thousands of souls under Li Xing’s ancestor. If not deliberately suppressed by Li Xing, just the evil qi of the Heavenly Wolf Saber itself would make low-tier Star Beasts retreat in fear.
In a dire mont, with the lives of thousands of students hanging by a thread, Li Xing dared not hold back. By wiping the blade, Little Fatty transford into raging Gang Qi attached to the edge, the might of the Fire King combined with the intentionally unleashed Heavenly Wolf’s Evil Qi, soared into the sky!
A row of Level Six Wolf-headed Bats in front suddenly felt an indescribable terror, instinctively stopping.
The rear Wolf-headed Bats, unaware of what was happening, continued advancing at the original speed.
With one still and the other moving, a collision was inevitable, causing a large-scale disorder in the bat swarm.
Seizing the opportunity, Li Xing shouted, "Attack—!"
Li Xing leaped into the air, swinging the Heavenly Wolf Saber across the Wolf-headed Bat swarm, arcs of red Sword Aura carried with fiery destruction shot into the bat swarm.
Amidst the Wolf-headed Bats’ unique sharp, high-pitched cries, over a hundred Wolf-headed Bats were split in half by the Gang Qi, and blood with remnants rained down from the sky.
Most Level Six Wolf-headed Bats perished in this unexpected first wave of attacks.
Li Xing’s bravery beca the students’ example, greatly boosting morale. Nurous golden, red, blue Elental Attacks fired like cannons into the densely packed bat swarm, and injured and dead Wolf-headed Bats fell like raindrops, quickly covering the ground with a layer of bat corpses.
Unfortunately, the advantage in their attacks did not last long, as ground-to-air combat never held an advantage.
In a border town like Datang, the quality of Elental Spirits was generally low; most students had C-level or D-level Primordial Spirits, with B-level considered a minority of exemplary students. They didn’t have the thick Primordial Spirit reserves of A-level.
Pure Elental Power’s long-range attacks soon beca unsustainable, and the Elental Power entering the enemy camp gradually decreased from overwhelming to sparse, only leaving a few scattered attempts.
Soon all Elental Attacks were forced into close combat, with only Li Xing persistently launching fiery Sword Aura into the Wolf-headed Bat swarm.
